staff at all levels to become involved in the teaching, training and development
of our Doctors of the future. We are also at the forefront of new discoveries,
with the Trust currently supporting over 300 high quality studies across a

What type of roles can we offer you within The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust?
As the Trust serves a population of 800,000, we are able to offer some of the broadest experiences possible in the region
across both hospital and community settings in a variety of innovative clinical directorates and specialties that include:
Role options include:-
Trust Grade – Although the post is not recognised by the Post Graduate Dean for the purpose of training, the post holder
will gain valuable experience in their specific specialty and will be allocated a Consultant mentor. This has helped Doctors to
get onto training programs in the past.
Specialty Doctor – The post holder will complement
existing services linked to their specialty. The post holder
is expected to provide demonstrable expertise in their
chosen field and deliver a high quality independent service
or manage complex cases with minimal reference to a
Consultant. We have a lead Doctor for this who is linked
to the deanery and leads on training and development for
Specialty Doctors.
GP with Specialist Interest – The Trust supports a GP
with a Special Interest (GPwSI) that supplements their role
as a generalist by providing an additional service while still
working in the community.
“Come and join us at Pennine Acute Hospital Trust; we’re an innovative team and you could make a real mark in shaping the future of our services. I trust our medical teams to do the right thing and we are developing a model of collective leadership to ensure that staff feel valued and to foster mutual professional respect.”
Prof. Matt Makin, Medical Director
What training or qualifications do you need to join us?
Professional roles such as Doctors require specific relevant
qualifications at degree level. Registered Doctors are also
required to be registered with the General Medical Council
(GMC).
What is it like working for The Trust?
“Working at Pennine I have gained loads of
experience, achieved the required competences and
enjoyed my working relationship with staff and
colleagues.”
We have had a number of experienced Doctors come
through the Trust from overseas, benefit from opportunities
provided by the Trust and then stay in the region. The
local house prices and cost of living are low with excellent
schools, an international airport and some world famous
sporting teams and venues.
What development opportunities do we offer you?
The Trust has enabled Junior Doctors to get necessary
exams in order to progress. We have enabled highly
committed overseas Doctors to get onto training programs
and in some cases progress to becoming Consultants. As an
employer we have an extremely ethnically diverse medical
workforce with excellent support networks and Teaching
Status awarded by The University of Manchester.
We have opportunities for Doctors to get involved with
service improvement projects, audit service development, as
well as educational events, training & networking.
