The culmination of 150th Birth Anniversary of Gandhiji made the month of October all the more significant and memorable. We are happy to note that Higher Education Institutional initiatives for development have been highly progressive and motivating and we appreciate the key roles played by the HEIs in this endeavour. At the behest of the Ministry of Education, MGNCRE has taken on the onus of strengthening the process of teaching and learning with institutional systems and processes. Also, as per NEP 2020 guidelines, there is a need of faculty who can adapt to the rapidly evolving learning environment.

Gandhiji’s thoughts on village self-reliance or Atmanirbhar Bharat focus on village economic activities. The methodology helps in promoting entrepreneurship opportunities in manufacturing and marketing rural products and rural services and exploring models of art, craft for entrepreneurship and for self-reliance. The purpose of management education is well realized through entrepreneurial learning. The guiding principle of Entrepreneurship is “Education and work cannot be separated and without work, research, contribution, creative and critical thinking skills, we cannot create new knowledge.”

Dr. Bharat Pathak Vice Chairman MGNCRE

A Cell promoting Entrepreneurship is essential as is a Placement Cell. In this regard, we have been conducting online workshops on Rural Entrepreneurship Development Cell (REDC)/FPO/FPC-Business Schools Connect Cell (FBSC) for Colleges of Management and Business Schools.

Our One day Online Institutional Workshops on “Vocational Education-Nai Talim-Experiential Learning (VENTEL) Action Plan’ have created the required impetus for the need for Vocational Education as a means of Productive work with Economic value and its integration with the 4 methodologies of Science, Mathematics, Social Studies and Language. These workshops have been the ground for preparing Action Plans for activities in the four identified areas of VENTEL Action

Plan - Vocational Education, Self-Reliance, Swachhta & Health and Community/Field Engagement.

Social Entrepreneurship, Swachhta and Rural Engagement Cell Action Plan Cells (SESREC) workshops focused on developing social enterprise business plan using the activities of Swachhta and community engagement. Social entrepreneurship also differs from the broader concept of corporate social responsibility (CSR), which aims to assist businesses in fulfilling economic and social responsibilities. Social entrepreneurship education strategically focuses on bringing about social change and is a collective and organized movement of change making which works towards developing and scaling sustainable solutions to social challenges.

It was an insightful experience to participate in Xavier School of Rural Management’s (XSRM) flagship industry interface program Abhivyakti 2020 where there was an interaction with industry experts about the various challenges of rural India. Gandhi King Foundation organized Gandhi 150 - Nobel Peace Session on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi on 2nd October 2020 virtually as a conclusion of 2-year Gandhi 150 Celebrations. The program was organized in collaboration with Permanent Secretariat of the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates. It was truly inspirational and invigorating.

MGNCRE is working towards connecting FPOs with Management institutions, so that management institutions can extend professional support. Also, MGNCRE is looking at students of Management Institutions getting into Internship with FPOs followed by Apprenticeship and then gaining entry into Rural Entrepreneurship thereby helping the FPOs.

Gandhi King Foundation organized

Gandhi 150 - Nobel Peace Session on the

occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi on 2nd

October 2020 virtually as a conclusion of

2-year Gandhi 150 Celebrations. The

program was organized in collaboration

with Permanent Secretariat of the World

Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates. Dr. Ira

Helfand (from ICAN & IPPNW, which won

Nobel Peace Prize in 2017 and 1985) and

Ekaterina Zagladina (President, Perm Sec

of WSNPL) spoke to the audience. A host

of other eminent and distinguished

academicians and Gandhians participated

in the online meeting and shared their

thoughts. Speaking at the session,

Chairman MGNCRE said “At MGNCRE, we

have been promoting Gandhiji’s

methodology of Nai Talim and

Experiential Learning and Vocational

Education in 3000 institutions across the

country. It would mean that all these

institutions would promote Vocational

Education in the lines of Nai Talim with

Head, Heart and Hand working together

which is a non-violence method and

directly involved in physical work which

has a productive value.

We are also establishing Rural

Entrepreneurship Development Cells as a

tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. We are

looking at 2000 institutions which are

business schools in the country initiating

Rural Entrepreneurship Development Cells

which would be working on creating that

entrepreneurship opportunity across the

rural sector in the country, where lakhs of

students who come out of these business

schools can get in to and contribute to

rural economy. Third area, which we are

working on establishing, is Social

Entrepreneurship, Swachhta and Rural

Engagement Cells. We are working on

educational institutions across the

country from the nooks and corners to the

central areas so that students or

academic community get engaged in the

rural reconstruction, rural

entrepreneurship and experiential

learning methodologies. We are focusing

on people not being unemployed but

people who would be entrepreneurship

oriented, people who are interested in self

generating and also contributing to a

world which has peace and non-violence

as foundation with nature protection as

the base.”
