Highlights from The Sarasota Herald Tribune 9/5/12• SARASOTA COUNTY - It's the largest residential real estate launch in this region since Lakewood Ranch first broke ground in the

1990s. Neal Communities' Grand Palm will include 1,999 homes, or the eventual equivalent of twice the residential permits nowbeing pulled each year in Sarasota County. The project — at the southwest junction of Center and River roads near Venice —also might signal that one of Southwest Florida's seminal industries is finally slipping the bonds of the Great Recession on its way to more normal growth.

• Sean Snaith, a University of Central Florida economist, said the movement on Grand Palm is "an optimistic sign for sure."

• "We need more of these. It's good to see activity in this sector starting up again," Snaith said. "It seems to be at a price that is going to be accessible to a larger group. It's a favorable environment in a lot of ways to buy.

• The grand opening of Grand Palm on Friday follows a recent analysis by the Brookings Institution that the Sarasota-Manatee economy is better positioned to create jobs in the coming years than three-quarters of the 100 biggest U.S. metropolitan areas.

Highlights from The Southern Broadcasting Company• SARASOTA COUNTY - The tent was full Friday as hundreds came to check out Grand Palm. The few model homes now in place

are the first six of what is expected to be 1,999. Nearly a decade in the making, developer Pat Neal says they're ready.

• "This is the beginning of the big boom. People have postponed their purchase since 2005 and their biological clock is ticking," says Neal.

• "We are excited to have this project here in south Sarasota County. It's a sign of good things to come and it's a sign of jobs."

• "We are one of our regions largest employers. We are going to provide economic benefits in that way as well as where people will be able to live," says Neal. Ready for young families and the boomers. "Buy now."
