A BOOZY BRIT’S SUMMER GADGET GUIDE
‘Ello, ‘Ello… What’s all this then? Well, it’s a guide for the biggest boozy Brits to get through
the summer!
Indeed it is a very pleasant thing, there is plenty of fun to be had – but it is something that might need just a little
bit of encouragement.
To get yourself into the mood for frivolity take a gander at these top boozy gadgets for
an all-round good time.
Great Britain
Natives to our green and pleasant land know how to have good time, rain or shine, so make sure if you are merely a visitor that you pay close attention to make
yourself blend in that little bit better.
Booze On The Move – The Pop Up Wine
Glass
You know what makes life more fun? Alcohol.
This little beauty is a pop up wine glass that fits nicely in your pocket so that if you decide to pick up a bottle of wine and take it to the park
you won’t look like a tramp.
Indeed, the opposite. Be prepared, and you’ll enjoy an air of sophistication too.
Booze Tech –The iBreath
breathalyser for iPod
There is no reason why we Brits should be relegated to technical insubordination just because of our healthy love of booze. It’s
just not cricket.
The iBreath breathalyser for iPod is small enough to carry around in your pocket. It works much in the same way as a normal breathalyser, but it powers itself through
your iPod’s battery.
The most remarkable thing is that it’s also an FM radio, so the ride home can be even
more enjoyable.
Keep Cool – The Dyson
Air Multiplier
You need to keep cool and maintain your royal poise if you’re going to
make any kind of impact. But if you’re throwing a casual soirée with plenty of
wine and cheese, you may want to keep yourself and your guests cool.
One fan that makes a big difference is a distinctly British one from Dyson.
The Dyson Air Multiplier amplifies air flow and pulls it through to blow cool air gently around the room; there are no rotating parts either so it’s very
quiet.
It’s also nice and light, so you can take it from the kitchen to the bedroom for
a cool night’s sleep.
Drying Out – The
Samurai Umbrella
It’s undeniable that Britain as a whole is a little bit on the drizzly
side. Perhaps that’s an understatement. Yes, it’s true – the British weather, especially in the
summer, has a very unpredictable nature.
You don’t want this to happen when out on your lovely picnic, equipped
with your pop up wine glass, but if it does then the Samurai Umbrella will
be very handy. Unlike the smaller umbrellas, this one has room for two.
The British Are Coming
– What The Hell Is That?
One thing that makes Brits popular, whether we like it or not, is our tendency to be just slightly eccentric. Whether it’s becoming obsessed with the weather or
train spotting – Brits have some funny habits.
These interesting anatomical carafes make the wine drinking experience just that little bit more fun – if a little bizarre.
It certainly will make balmy summer’s night’s dinner parties a little bit more interesting by provoking some conversation.
When There’s A Lull In
Festivities – It’s Time For A Beer Hunt
It’s not strictly a gadget, but it is a very interesting way of keeping up with friends – even if you’re not in the same place.
You are able to ‘Check In’ with every beer that you have and you will earn points for the more exotic brands that you consume.
There are also some interesting graphs to view, so you can take a look at the damage done after the summer is over. It’s a great way to keep track of how much you drink, and at what times of
day you tend to have a tipple.
Wine, Wine?!!? Nah, mate –
pint!
If you’re out and about, perhaps attending a summer festival where glasses aren’t permitted, but still want to have the feeling of dripping
that fine golden nectar into your gullet from a glass then the pocket pint is the way to go.
Much like its wine related counterpart we looked at earlier, it is a collapsible glass designed to perfectly mimic the pint experience.
It’s made of sturdy plastic and collapses to just 4mm in size. This would make a nice gift for couples when paired with the pocket wine glass.
Bring Out The Gin
After the calorific intake of beer on a particularly heavy weekend the next weekend needs to be a little bit more laid back – gin and
tonic perhaps?
There are many different ways to take your spirits, but a nice flask like this wonderful one
from The Stanley Works will do just nicely.
It could also make a nice addition to your camping or festival trip, once you’ve made your
way to the front of the stage and your idol comes out you might fancy a drink as the tunes
start playing – but risk losing your place.
Am I Too Drunk To Drive? Let Me Check My Watch
There are so many problems associated with alcohol, but one of the most challenging ones is drinking and driving. Of course, it can be fatal – but there are also consequences including fines and imprisonment for even relatively moderate offenders.
You could use your iPod breathalyser, but that looks just a little bit odd if you’re in a bar. Something much more subtle is the Kisai Intoxicated watch from Tokyoflash. It has a breathalyser built into it, and you can get a very accurate reading quite easily.
British Invasion – Keep
The Tunes Alive With A Patriotic DAB
There are many different ways of enjoying a summers day, sometimes with alcohol related gadgetry and sometimes with only the company that you keep. Whatever you end up doing, when you start to relax you will want to keep some tunes on in the background.
So, why not use a gadget from a wonderful British company – Phillips.
This Phillips DAB radio has some excellent features, and a Union Jack emblazoned upon the front – so you can get a sense of patriotism (subtle as it may be) as you toast with your friends.
Cheerio – Anything
I’ve Missed?
Well, I must say ‘goodbye internet’! I’ve really enjoyed finding all of these fun and slightly ridiculous gadgets and putting them together. Hopefully now the Great British Summer will be just that little bit more enjoyable for you.
What did you think, did I miss anything out that I should have included? Make sure you comment and let me know.
