A Bologna Academy / FHI Health Humanities Lab Presentation: “Rethinking the ‘Critical’ in Anthropology and Global Health” Ivo Quaranta Abstract Starting with an overview of the outcomes of two different anthropological action-research projects conducted over the past few years in two health care services in Bologna Province, Italy, this talk will focus on strategies and methodological approaches aimed at bringing a global health perspective to the patient/provider health care relationship.At the theoretical level a profound rethinking of the relationship between anthropology and global health will be discussed, arguing for the need of a critical perspective capable of maintaining the potential of cultural critique in addressing health inequalities. Biography Ivo Quaranta is the Associate Professor in Cultural and Medical Anthropology at the University of Bologna (Italy). He has conducted research on the cultural elaboration and social production of HIV/AIDS in North-West Cameroon, on the lived experience of chronic conditions and, more recently, on the relation between health care and migration. His main theoretical reflections are presently focused on the forms and possiblilities of translation as a critical approach to global health in the context of the patient/provider relationship. AbstractStarting with an overview of the outcomes of two
