Cet ordinateurcontient la base de données de RSR etsert à la publication de notre DerAuspuff. C’est important qu’il soit àpoint.

Durant les derniers mois, l’ordinateurnous causait certains ennuis et par con-séquence cela créait quelques momentsintenses pour l’éditeur! Grâce à Scott,l’ordinateur a subi quelques modifica-tions et a été enrichi de pièces nouvelleset les problèmes sont en voie de dispari-tion. Un gros merci, Scott Darlington.

valuable contributions to the success ofour organization.

One of these is Scott Darlington, anOttawa member who makes his living inthe high tech sector with IBM. Scottstepped forward and volunteered toserve as our Ottawa IT specialist and inthis regard has put in several lateevenings working on the club’sMacintosh G4. This is the machine thatruns our Rennsport data base and pro-duces our monthly Auspuff magazine soit has to be reliable.

During the past few months it hasdeveloped a few hiccups which havegiven your editors some serious con-cerns. Thanks to Scott, it seems to be onthe mend and with some new hardwarepurchases, the hiccups seem to be abat-ing. Sincere thanks to Mr. Darlington.

Please remember our boat cruise onthe Ottawa river on August 13. TheOttawa social committee has stepped upto the plate and responded to those ofyou who asked for more gatherings thatare not necessarily “car oriented”. This isthe first of these and unless we supportthe committee and show up, then therewon’t be much incentive to continue theeffort. Please feel free to bring alongyour best friends and share a dinnertable with them. With dinner, dancing,and a cruise along the Ottawa, theevening promises relaxation and goodcompany. Continuing with the same themePCA National has been slow updatingour membership lists. Once again wecan point to a technical problem. Theyhave been integrating new softwareand I guess that progress is not as fastas planned. Thankfully, Rob Martinkeeps a separate database so you willstill receive your Auspuff renewalnotice on time. This may not be the casefor your PCA renewal. Ultimately,keeping track of your membershiprenewal is the members’ responsibility.The reminder from the head office ishelpful, but please keep track of yourrenewal date. Should your membershipexpire you will be denied access toevents like DEs.

He mayhave taken first if not for the late entry of a928 once owned by Lee Majors. If you don’tknow whom Lee Majors is, ask someoneover the age of 40.

While we are in the congratulationsmood, I would like to pass on a “news-flash” that just came in from Parade 2004 inTexas. Rennsport has taken second place inthe Community Service Award category, forour Charity Drive 2003. Many thanks to allwho helped make this event a success. Wehave just completed our Charity Drive 2004and, once again, the team led by LouisePearl has done a magnificent job.

The 21st of August will see us reactivateour too long dormant Autocross program.The event will take place in Blainville atPMGs’ Delta track, the same great locationused for the 1999 Porsche Parade. Anautocross is one of the best ways to tune upyour driving and it is also the only PCAevent that allows timing. More details willbe available on the web.

As you probably know, we have had tocancel our Calabogie events. The vote toallow the construction to move forward hasbeen delayed so often that to guarantee ourmembers enough track time we have had tobook another event at Tremblant. On a posi-tive note this 08 of July the Calabogie coun-cil has voted yes to allow the track to goahead. So Calabogie 2005 will be our target.

Nousavons aussi terminé notre événementpour 2004 et encore une fois l’équipesous la gouverne de Louise Pearl aencore une fois surpassé les attentes.

Le 21 août, nous verrons une activitédu club renaître de ses cendres, notreprogramme de slalom. L’événement setiendra à Blainville aux installations dePMG sur la piste Delta. La même instal-lation que celle utilisée lors de la ParadePorsche 1999. Le slalom est l’une desmeilleures façons d’améliorer votre con-duite et c’est le seul événement où PCAautorise la prise de chronométrage. Plusde détails sur le site web.

Comme vous le savez déjà nousavons dû annuler les événements devantse tenir à la piste de Calabogie. Le votedu conseil permettant de finaliser laconstruction en cours a été repoussé sisouvent qu’afin de garantir un certainnombre de journée de piste à nos mem-bres, nous avons dû prendre cette déci-sion et ainsi d’ouvrir une nouvelle ses-sion à Tremblant les 27/28 septembre2004. Sur une note plus positive, le 8juillet, le conseil de Calabogie a voté enfaveur de la piste et ils pourront aller del’avant pour finaliser le circuit. DoncCalabogie sera dans notre mire pour2005.

In spite of major problems (hercomputer crashed a week before theevent with a lot of data lost) Louisemanaged to pull off a tremendous suc-cess. On June 29th, assisted by a greatteam of volunteers and instructors, overa hundred participants and guests

enjoyed their introduction to high per-formance driving at Le Circuit Mont-Tremblant. Even the weather co-operat-ed. In spite of a less than promisingforecast and a few spits of rain whichdidn’t hamper activities the rain heldoff until about five minutes after thetrack closed.

C We raised over $63,000 on site which alongwith funds from the Quebec City Concoursand other fund raising activities broughtthe total on the big cheque (see photos else-where) to $72,000.

Our guests were as usual very compli-mentary – “Wow this is well organized andI really enjoyed myself”; “I was thinking ofselling my (Porsche), now that I understand

what it can do, I’m coming back for more”;“Way more fun than golf, I was here lastyear and I’ll come again for sure”; “I rodewith three different instructors and I could-n’t believe how fast we went. I thought wewere going to die going through that turnat the bottom of the hill but we just breezedthrough it at what felt like a hundred miles

I was deeply touched by the experience. It’snot just the money we raised for researchand treatment; that’s a good thing in and ofitself. Talking to Genevieve Lacroix(Fondation Charles Bruneau, coordinator) Ilearned that the kids had been looking for-ward to this outing for weeks and the antic-ipation had positive effects on their outlookand even their health. Now that’s an even

better thing in my book. You know those ads for Mastercard? I

had the privilege of making a little girlhappy - “Mommy that was the most fun Ihave ever had”. Think about it in the con-text that she’s undergoing aggressivechemo therapy and has a one in five chanceof seeing Christmas. That’s what I callpriceless. I know that everyone who took

an hour. I thought I knew how to drive butI realized it is a real skill”; “That wasthrilling – so fast and yet I felt perfectlysafe, better than Disney”!

La Fondation Charles Bruneau broughtup a group of their kids who carefully stud-ied the cars and picked the ones they want-ed to ride in. I was lucky enough to bepicked by a charming little girl.

My little passenger was delighted! I keptasking her if it was too fast or uncomfort-able. She said “Oh no, this is great, I loveit!” As soon as we got her out of the har-ness, she ran to her parents saying “thatwas the most fun I ever had”. That felt real-ly good. Her folks took so many pictures,they ran out of film.

Ferrari. You can imagine his reaction whenhe learned he’d be going out in a FerrariChallenge race car! Emmanuel asked (as weall did) “are you ok, comfortable, is this toofast”? His passenger told him “ this is funbut all I can see is the tops of trees goingby”.

A quick trip to the pits for someimpromptu (and very fast) seat adjustmentssolved the problem making a very sick kidvery happy.

The aura of “feel-good” wasn’t reservedjust for instructors who took kids for a ride.Nobody could miss the excitement andhappiness evidenced by the Bruneau chil-dren. When you think about it, a charitablecontribution is usually impersonal - acheque sent off to some organization. Thiswas different, quite the opposite in fact. Wewere in close contact with the beneficiaries.

Nothing can beat it. If you missed outthis year, plan to attend the 2005 event.

The day closed with a wine tastingprovided by Robert Mondavi. A glass ofwine was the perfect way to celebrate awonderful day. The wine was quiteextraordinary and much appreciated byall.

While sipping the wine, we gave outwhat seemed like hundreds of doorprizes. I watched with envy as a guypicked up a leather suitcase by PorscheDesign I had been admiring. That giftcarried a retail price of $1,800 and wasbut one of many gifts provided byAutomobiles Lauzon our lead sponsor. The Rennsport Charity Drive dependson sponsors and volunteers to be a suc-cess.

Août au restaurant L’Escalier du côté deLévis. La vue sur Québec y est magnifiqueet l’an dernier nous y avons eu une trèsbonne expérience. Comme d’habitude nousarriverons vers 18.30hrs pour l’apéro etnous passerons à table vers 19.30hres.

Enfin le 21 août, Gino Thériault nous inviteà une excursion dans la belle région deKamouraska. Il s’agit ici d’une répétitiond’une ballade qu’il avait organisée il y adeux ans et que j’ai trouvée extraordinaire.

Le départ se fait au kiosque info-touristiqueprès des ponts vers 09.00hres, il y a un arrêtdans une boulangerie Allemande àKamouraska et par la suite nous allonsdîner en groupe au restaurant Chez Lucie(non c’est pas ma Lucie). Bien entendu leclou du voyage est la visite du magnifiqueMusée du Domaine qui nous offre unesplendide collection de voitures ancienneset surtout une Porsche 911SC 1965.

Au retour, un arrêt est prévu pour unedégustation de produits du terroir. Je mesouviens qu’il y a deux ans nous n’avionspas eu le temps de nous ennuyer et quenous n’étions même pas fatigués à la fin dela journée tant Gino avait tout bien planifié.C’est un rendez-vous à ne pas manquer!

Election planning has already started forthe upcoming board elections to be held atthe end of the year. Keep an eye on DerAuspuff for more information in the com-ing months. If you are interested in helpingyour club, consider running for one of theavailable board positions. Our clubstrength is based on the volunteers thatstep up to help and we do need some freshideas and new thinking, so give this someserious thought. If you have any questions,feel free to contact any one of us on theexecutive board. While discussing the elec-tions, it was also decided that we shouldlook at splitting the AGM party and busi-ness meeting portion into two separateevents. By doing this, the dates are easier toplan for, the election timing can be held toreflect the calendar year better, and theAGM "business portion" is likely to be bet-ter attended by members. As such, look foran all business AGM this year (likely inHawkesbury), and a separate "End of YearRSR Party" (Montreal this year) instead ofboth events combined at the same time.

That’s all I have for now, as I need to getback to working on the 944. The month ofJuly this year has no RSR track drivingevents, but August and September will bejam packed, so I need to make sure every-thing is in tip top shape and get those newtires mounted. The June executive meeting was aquick one and was held a bit earlier dueto the fact that many folks were leavingfor the 48 hours of Watkins Glen. Themain topics of the evening covered had todo with the upcoming board electionsand AGM, the new Calabogie racetrack,and a discussion/update about the RSRCharity day.

Let’s start with the track report. Thereis good news and bad news. Good news:we have had two successful track driverevents so far this year with no incidents.Bad news: Calabogie Motorsports Parkwill not be ready for use this year, and assuch those dates have been cancelled.Take heart, it will be open next spring,the new pavement will be fully cured,and we guarantee that we will have datesthere as soon as it opens. Good news: anew two day Tremblant DE date has beenadded to the schedule in late September,and a new autocross event at PMGBlainville has also been added to com-pensate for the lost Calabogie dates.

By the time you read this, the annualRSR Charity day will have taken placeand since I attended, I can tell you that itwas once again a huge success thanks tothe hard work by our club organizers.Fun was had by all, and in the end the

On a cru bon cette année, de diviserl’AGM, côté affaire et côté social en deuxuniques activités. Cela rendrait la planifica-tion plus facile avec un meilleur choix dedates. On aimerait plus de participation denos membres à la rencontre, “côté affaire”.Cette rencontre pourrait avoir lieu àHawkesbury. Le party social RSR fin d’annéeaura lieu à Montréal. C’est tout pour ce mois, car je dois m’af-fairer à préparer ma 944 pour les cours deconduite. Juillet n’a pas d’activité sur pistepar contre en août et septembre, il y en auratrois en tout. Je dois installer mes nouveauxpneus et m’assurer que tout est en ordre. Jevous dis aurevoir et n’oubliez pas de garderla carrosserie impécable. J’espère vous revoirà une des activités RSR durant l’été.
