EXPLANATORY NOTES

1. The figures detailed in this bulletin supersede any previousinformation supplied on these matters.

2. The last three month's figures or the last quarter's figures for anyt-l zhul be rqdeas'eliminary and sduij'c to revisin-

3. ' Tables in the section comparing various countries should be regardedas rough comparisons only due to different techniques in constructing theindexes in different countries. Figures for various states or areas withina country should also be regarded as rough comparisons only as different state

awards may include different components.

p4. -Certain indexes have been constructed on classifications which havebeen revised during the periud covered by the indexes, These indexes have beenlinked on a reasonably comparable basis wherever possible. Any exceptions havebeen noted in footnotes to the relevant tables.

5. -In sane cases indexes of specific components of an industry groupare shown as well as that of the industry as a whole. This latter index maycontain additional components not shown and the components shown contributevarying weights. Therefore it is not possible to make a strict comparisonbetween an industry index and components of that industry index.

6. In cases where wage rates are expressed in currencies other than thatof the country to which the rate is applicable these have been converted usingthe exchange rate current at the time the data was obtained. For this reasonvariations in the figures may be expected as the result of recent major currencyre-alignments.

7. Although later data appear in some of the tables, escalation rateshave been calculated to alleviate the possibility of seasonal fluctuations.

8. Any enquiries concerning the contents of the bulletin should be madeto Mr B. Arcus on Canberra 663979.
