General instructions for compliant utilisation

● This User Information booklet (Method State-ment) is aimed at everyone who will be working with the Doka product or system it describes. It contains information on how to set up this sys-tem, and on correct, compliant utilisation of the system. This User Information booklet can also be used as a generic method statement or incorporated with a site-specific method statement.

● Doka products are ONLY to be used in accord-ance with the Doka User Information booklets or other technical documentation provided by Doka.

● The functional/technical instructions, safety warnings and loading data must all be strictly observed and complied with. Failure to do so can cause accidents and severe (even life-threatening) damage to health, as well as very great material damage.

● If any deviation from these instructions is con-templated, or any application which goes beyond those described here, then revised static calculations must be produced for check-ing, as well as supplementary assembly instructions.

● The customer is to ensure that the User Infor-mation booklet (Method Statement) provided by Doka is available to all users, and that they have been made aware of it and have easy access to it at the usage location.

● Always observe all industrial safety regulations and other safety rules applying to the applica-tion and utilisation of our products in the coun-try and/or region in which you are operating.

● Many of the illustrations in this booklet show the situation during formwork assembly and are therefore not always complete from the safety point of view.

● The equipment/system must be inspected by the customer before use, to ensure that it is in suitable condition. Steps must be taken to rule out the use of any components that are dam-aged, deformed, or weakened due to wear, cor-rosion or rot.

● Only original Doka components may be used as spare parts.

● Combining our formwork systems with those of other manufacturers could be dangerous, risking damage to both health and property. If you intend to combine different systems, please contact Doka for advice first.

● The customer must ensure that this product is erected and dismantled, reset and generally used for its intended purpose under the direc-tion and supervision of suitably skilled persons with the authority to issue instructions.

● All persons working with the product described herein must be familiar with the contents of this manual and with all the safety instructions it contains.

● Persons who are incapable of reading and understanding this booklet, or who can do so only with difficulty, must be instructed and trained by the customer.

Elementary safety warnings

Symbols usedThe following symbols are used in this booklet:

MiscellaneousWe reserve the right to make alterations in the inter-ests of technical progress.Unless otherwise stated, all dimensions are given in cm.

● Doka products and systems must be set up in such a way that all loads acting upon them are safely transferred!

● The stability of all components and units must be ensured during all phases of the construc-tion work!

● Provide safe workplaces for those using the formwork (e.g. for when it is being erected/dis-mantled, modified or repositioned etc). It must be possible to get to and from these workplaces via safe access routes!

● Do not exceed the permitted fresh-concrete pressures. Excessively high pouring rates lead to formwork overload, cause greater deflection and risk causing breakage.

● Do not strike the formwork until the concrete has reached sufficient strength and the person in charge has given the order for the formwork to be struck!

● When striking the formwork, never use the crane to break concrete cohesion. Use suitable tools such as timber wedges, special pry-bars or system features such as Framax stripping corners.

● When striking the formwork, do not endanger the stability of any part of the structure, or of any scaffolding, platforms or formwork that is still in place!

● Observe all regulations applying to the hand-ling of formwork and scaffolding. In addition, the Doka slinging means must be used - this is a mandatory requirement.

● Remove any loose parts or fix them in place so that they cannot be dislodged or fall free!

● All connections must be checked regularly to ensure that they still fit properly and are func-tioning correctly. It is very important to check all screw-type con-nections and wedge-clamped joins whenever the construction operations require (particu-larly after exceptional events such as storms), and to tighten them if necessary.

● All components must be stored safely, follow-ing all the special Doka instructions given in the relevant sections of this User Information book-let!

● Further safety instructions, especially warn-ings, will be found in the individual sections of this document!

● The faulty utilisations shown in the various sections of this booklet are only a selection of examples taken from our many years' experi-ence in the field.

Important note

Failure to observe this may lead to malfunction or damage.

Caution / warning / danger

Failure to observe this may lead to material damage, and to injury to health which may range up to the severe or even life-threatening.

Product description

The comprehensive range of ready-

to-use platforms for every field

The Doka folding platforms K are pre-assembled (and thus immediately work-ready) scaffold plat-forms designed to be used as● EN 12811-1 compliant working platforms● DIN 4420-1 and ÖNORM B4007 compliant protec-

tion platforms

They are delivered to the site folded closed, to save space. At the site, it takes only an instant to unfold them before they are craned to the prepared suspension points and hung into place.A range of practical accessories makes work on the site a lot easier and eliminates the need for costly job-site improvisations.

Among the many advantages of the Doka fold-

ing platform K:

● High load-bearing capacity of up to 600 kg/m2 - Load Class 6

● The 3.00 or 4.50 m long platforms are easy to plan

● Closure platform 3.00m for length adjustment and corner solutions – all-in-one, with integral railings

● Retractable crane-hoisting points for an even, safe platform deck – no projecting parts that any-body might trip over

● Long service life thanks to its sturdy design, var-nished deck-boards and galvanised steel con-struction

● Deck-boards are protected by a steel profile at either end of the platform

● Climbing formwork K – simply adding a few standard Doka components to the platforms transforms them into a fully-fledged tiltable climbing formwork system

● Lengthening piece and suspended platform – as system components for bridging storey-high openings and for safe finishing-work

● Good bridging of wall and window openings● Handrail lengthening piece K and safety netting –

for extending and reinforcing the rooftop fall bar-rier function

● Side handrail clamping unit T – the quick way of putting up safe end-railings at the ends of the platforms

● Two different suspension methods, for better adaptation to the on-site situation:- cone-type suspension points- loop-type suspension points

● Platform level can be raised / lowered by either 0.50 m or 1.00 m at a time, using the Suspension beam K2

● Takes up very little storage and transport space

Set-up procedure

Separating the platforms➤ Lift the stacked platforms off the truck by crane or

forklift truck, and set them down on a flat, paved surface.

➤ Attach the four-part lifting tackle to the crane hoisting points at the front and to the extra lifting bows at the rear (C) .

Putting up the railings➤ Tilt up the railings (D) . When you reach the stop,

lift the railings and slot them into place.

Attaching the crane➤ Pull the lifting bows up out of their recesses,

attach the four-part lifting tackle (E) (e.g. Doka 4-part chain 3.20m) and raise the folding platform.

Pulling out the pressure rod

Bolting the vertical rod in place➤ Tilt up the vertical rod (I) and fix it by inserting the

U-bolt (G) .➤ Secure the U-bolt with the red safety clip (F) to

prevent it being opened accidentally.

The Folding platform K is now ready for use.

☞ Only attach and lift 1 platform at a time.

Hanging the Folding platform K into

place

For all cone-type suspension points, the rule is:

➤ Raise the Folding platform K with a four-part lift-ing tackle.

This raises the front lifting bows, opening the lift-out guard.

➤ Once the Folding platform K is suspended from the suspension cone, the load is removed from the four-part lifting tackle.

The lifting bows drop into the starting position, automatically securing the platform against acci-dental lift-out.

"Locked" position = lifting bow is flush with decking.

concreteThe Fair-faced concrete positioning cone 15.0 5cm is particularly suitable for fair-faced concrete projects where the form-tie points and suspension points are required to make a uniform hole-pattern.

If it is intended to use this type of suspension point, a Doka technician must be contacted before the project starts.

Result (in terms of appearance):

The form-tie points and/or suspension points have a uniform, regular hole-pattern.

☞ Safety warning:The Fair-faced concrete positioning cone may only be used on suspension points that are located within a maximum of 80 cm from the top edge of the concrete. The rea-son for this restriction is the reduced load-bearing capacity of such suspension points, due to the shallower screw-in depth of the end of the tie-rod nearest the form-ply.

with hole drilled through the form-ply➤ Drill a diam. 18 mm hole in the form-ply (position

as shown in shop drawing / assembly plan).➤ Screw the Stop-anchor or pigtail anchor (A) into

the Cantilever positioning cone (C) until fully engaged.

➤ Insert a Tie-rod 15.0 (F) (length approx. 20 cm) through the hole drilled in the form-ply, screw it into the Cantilever positioning cone and tighten it with the Super-plate 15.0 (J) .

Note:

Cantilever positioning cones are supplied with Sealing sleeves 15.0 5cm (D) . Every time the Uni-versal climbing cones are used again, fit them with new sealing sleeves first!

➤ Warning against not screwing in the parts (e.g. stop anchors or pigtail anchors) far enough into the positioning cones: This may subsequently lead to reduced load-bearing capacity and to the failure of the suspension point - resulting in injury and damage.

➤ Always screw in components until they fully engage – that is, for the full length as far as the depth mark on the stop-anchor or pigtail anchor.

➤ Make sure that the parts then used for the suspension point are for the same depth of concrete cover.

➤ Do not use the positioning cone as a rod connector

➤ Tie the pigtail anchor or stop anchor to the reinforcement with binding wire. This prevents it becoming detached during pouring and vibrating.

Never weld or heat tie-rods - risk of fracture!

Protection platforms: General remarks

* For closures of longer than 1.00 m, only use the Closure plat-form 3.00m

Extending the range of use by

adjusting the height

Height adjustment with the Suspension beam

K2

With the Suspension beam K2, the folding platform can be height-adjusted vis-à-vis the suspension axis:● upwards by 0.50 m or 1.00 m● downwards by 0.50 m or 1.00 mThis height variability greatly extends the range of use of the Doka folding platforms in the field of fall barriers and sloping-rooftop fall barriers.

Platform raised

Where the floor-slab is at a lower level, as in e.g. loft conversions:● to meet the requirements for use as a sloping-

rooftop fall barrier● or to maintain an optimum workdeck level.

Upward height adjustment by 0.50 and 1.00 m

Allow for the min. lift-out distance of 30 cm!If necessary, a plank can be fixed here to cover the gap between the decking and the wall.

Platform lowered

Lowering the folding platform is a good way of achieving a convenient workdeck level for cladding work or guttering work. The 0.50 m steps make for optimum height adjust-ment.

Downward height adjustment by 0.50 and 1.00 m

Short lift-out distance (only 15 cm), due to the low height of the shackle.

Mounting instructions

Assembly procedure for lowering the platform

➤ Temporarily dismount the Fixing plate (F) and put it to one side.

➤ Mount the Suspension shoe K2 (E) in the desired position.

➤ Stand the Suspension beam K2 on end and secure it so that it cannot topple over.

➤ Lift the folding platform by crane into the claws of the Suspension shoe K2.

➤ Use the safety pin (G) to secure the folding plat-form against accidental lift-out.

➤ Re-mount the Fixing plate (F) in such a way that the long section of plate reaches into the bracket support.

All other assembly operations – e.g. raising the plat-form – should be carried out analogously!

Moving the platformThe Folding platforms K are normally lifted using suitable four-part lifting chains such as the Doka 4-part chain 3.20m.In special usage situations, the Platform transport fork K/M may be used.

Lifting with Platform transport fork K/M

Always use the Platform transport fork K/M for lift-ing the platforms:● when it is not possible to walk onto the platform

to attach the four-part lifting chain;● when the platform is being used as a sloping-

rooftop fall barrier and cannot be lifted out by four-part lifting chain because of the projecting eaves.

Follow the directions in the "Platform trans-port fork K/M" Operating Instructions!

☞ Check before using with the Folding plat-form K:Telescopic beam must be completely extended, and fixed in place.

Where cone-type suspension points are used, observe the following:➤ Unlock the anti-liftout guard.

Before the Folding platform K can be lifted off its suspension points, the red lift-ing bow (H) must be shifted into the "parking position" (fixed in the short slot).

➤ Re-lock the anti-liftout guard. After hanging the platform into place on the suspension cone, move the lifting bow back into the locked position (fixed in the long slot so that the lifting bow is flush with the platform decking).

Climbing with the Folding platform K

Climbing formwork K

Simply adding a few standard components and the Connection shoe K to the Folding platform K trans-forms it into a fully-fledged, tiltable climbing form-work - the Climbing formwork K.● It is used in situations where formwork has to be

lifted in several casting steps and where retracta-ble formwork is not required.

● The formwork-plus-platform unit is shifted in its entirety in one single crane cycle.

● The formwork is set up and struck with no need for a crane, meaning that the only crane times needed are those for the lifting operations.

For loadability data, see: "Working platform with formwork".

More information will be found in the User Information booklet "Doka climbing form-work system K".There is a special "Instructions for Assembly and Use" booklet for the Climbing formwork K to help users set up and use the formwork correctly.

Folding platform K as a base on which to stand façade scaffoldingThis method is particularly recommended in situa-tions where it is not possible to erect façade scaf-folding from the ground up, e.g. because of an open building pit or because traffic and pedestrian access routes have to be left clear. The high load-bearing capacity of the Folding plat-form K – coupled with the statically computed scaf-fold heights given below – greatly extend the fold-ing platforms' possible range of use.The following tables show the number of "storeys" (i.e. scaffold levels on top of one another) that are possible for different thicknesses of sleeper, for:

1. Work being carried out on one scaffold level only:

2. Work being carried out on every scaffold level:

more efficientlyTipos has been developed to assist you in planning the use of your Doka formwork. For wall formwork, floor formwork and platforms, it puts the same tools into your hands that we at Doka use our-selves for formwork planning.

Easy to use, fast and accurate resultsThe easy-to-use interface makes for very fast work-ing. From when you input your layout (with the "Schal-Igel"® on-screen assistant), all the way through to when you manually put the finishing touches to the formwork solution the program gives you. All this saves time - yours. The program contains a large number of templates from formwork practice, so you can be sure of always getting the optimum technical and econom-ical solution to your formwork task. This makes for greater operational reliability, and cuts costs. You can get to work right away with the piece-lists, plans, views, sections and perspective drawings that the program gives you. Operational reliability is also enhanced by the high level of detail of the plans.

Among other things, Tipos-Doka plans the follow-ing with Folding platforms:● Distribution of the folding platforms in accord-

ance with the Load Classes● Closures● Corner solutions● Safety railings● Height-adjusted applications (raised/lowered)

Drawings of formwork and platforms really can be this detailed! Both for the layout and for spatial representations, Tipos-Doka sets an impressive new standard of visual presentation.

Always the right quantities of form-

work and accessories

You can import the automatically generated piece-lists into many other programs for further processing.

Formwork components and accessories that have to be organised at short notice, or replaced by improvisation, are the ones that cost the most. This is why Tipos-Doka offers complete piece-lists that leave no room for improvisation. Planning with Tipos-Doka eliminates costs before they have a chance to even arise. And your depot can make the best possible use of its stocks.

Doka customer training

Formwork training pays

Forming operations account for the lion’s share of labour costs on concrete construction sites. Modern formwork equipment helps to rationalise opera-tions. By improving the overall construction sequence at the same time, however, further very worthwhile gains in efficiency can be achieved. This requires not only better equipment, but also greater skill in making optimum use of this equip-ment. Doka can help here, with its specialist train-ing programme - to help each and every member of the team do his bit towards boosting efficiency and lowering costs.Doka customer training events also look at the formwork equipment and handling methods that are needed in order to achieve optimum safety - knowledge and awareness which can only enhance workplace safety on the site. You’ll find the Doka training programme well worth looking into.

Your nearest Doka branch will be pleased to tell you more about Doka's various training offerings.
