Awaaz FM serves the Asian and Ethnic population in Southampton and South Hampshire potentially serving over 1.5 million people from New Forest to Southampton and from Fareham to Havant. We broadcast in English, Urdu, Punjabi, Hindi, Pashtu, Farsi, Malayalam, Greek and Konkani delivering entertainment, local and national news and community information. Awaaz FM also covers the major faiths - Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Islam.

We broadcast religious and faith related programs every week.

Awaaz FM is a Community Radio Station set up in 2009 as an online radio. We got our DAB licence in January 2016 and secured our FM licence in July 2016.

Broadcasting on DAB began in February 2016 and our FM service started in September 2018.

Awaaz FM is the BIGGEST Asian and EthnicCommunity Radio Station in Hampshire.

We make a difference through active involvement in our community.

Our staff structure involves people from the community and we actively encourage community members to join the group.

Our community programmes focus on improving education and entrepreneurship, and raising aspirations of our volunteers and community members.

All our members are volunteers and give up their time for community benefit and to learn new skills.

MISSION STATEMENT

Awaaz FM will serve the Asian and Ethnic communities in South Hampshire and Southampton, delivering entertainment, community information, local, national and international news broadcasting in Urdu, Punjabi, Hindi, Pashtu, Farsi, Greek, Malayalam and English.

“Awaaz” means “voice” and Awaaz FM is the voice of Southampton’s BME communities and their respective faiths.

Our programs will include information, entertainment and direct interaction which means you can express your community needs directly with MPs, Councillors, Health Professionals and selected guests Live On Air.

We also want to include the community in everything that we do, so will form a community panel to help decide on future programming.

Serving our community is about responsibility.

When it comes to giving out community information such as financial information or health advice, it’s vital that we give sound advice and is something that the community members can cope with in their everyday lives.

Working With Partner Organisations

Awaaz FM is keen to work with local organisations to help boost the local economy as well as tap into the talent and skills of the local workforce making it easier for employers to look towards local people to fill local jobs.

Where it’s necessary we will work with partner organisations to deliver training and support.
