Tepper, Podiatrist ATHLETE'S FOOT Athlete's foot, or tinea pedis, is a fungus infection of the feet that occurs primarily among teenage and adult males. The infection develops in moist, damp, and improperly ventilated conditions. Risk factors include sweaty feet, a warm climate, not drying feet enough after swimming or showering, and wearing tight shoes or socks. Athlete's foot affects each individual differently. Sometimes the skin between toes peels, cracks, and scales. In other instances, there is redness, scaling, and even blisters on the soles and sides of the feet. Itching may accompany these skin symptoms. Stubborn toenail infections can also occur and lead to scaling, crumbling, and thickening nails or even nail loss. Without treatment, athlete's foot can lead to a bacterial infection. Self-diagnosis and treatment for problems such as athlete's foot may not always be in your best interest. Whatever problems you feet encounter, give them professional attention while they are still in their minor stages. It's much better, easier, and less costly to deal with problems early on than to face major treatment at a later date. Remember, foot problems usually don't disappear on their own. OBITUARIES Blair Babcock Hickey March 4,1937 - June 27,2000 * Blair Babcock Hickey of Eagle Lake passed away June 27,2000. He was born in Kane, Pennsylva- nia, and resided in Texas following his discharge from the Air Force in 1959 except for the four years he spent as a Presbyterian missionary in Korea. He worked as an accountant at several hospitals in Texas, the last being Rice Medical Center in Eagle Lake. He was an active member of the Rotary Club, Habitat for Humanity, Tom Waddell Outdoor Nature Club in Eagle Lake and the Thoreau Unatarian Universalist Congregation in Staf- ford, with a firm commitment to live well, laugh often and love much, leav- ing this world a better place. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Charles Frederick and Hazel Hickey of Bradford, Penn- sylvania; and a brother, Leon Hickey of Rochester, New York. Survivors include his wife, Elaine; a son and daughter-in-law, Kurt and Zoraida Riddle of Virginia Beach, Virginia; two daughters and sons-in- law, Rachel and Mark Battey of Cin- cinnati, Ohio, and Laura and Todd McMeley of Rowlett, Texas; a sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Charles Dauchenbaugh of Freeland, He has worked as a New Members Ministry Facilitator and Commitment Counselor at The Church Without Walls, Brookhollow Baptist Church, Houston. For five years, he preached the Annual Youth Revival at the Be- thesda Baptist Church in Muskegon, Michigan. He has been sought after for reviv- als and annual day events throughout of Houston. Since 1990, he has managed his own barber business with a growing clientele. His focus on customer serv- ice has resulted in an 80% repeat cus- tomer rate. In addition, Rev. Riley shared his business acumen as part of the leader- ship team for the Big "C" Golf Classic at The Church Without Walls. His fund raising efforts helped the team achieve approximately $9,000 with a 50% profit, to benefit homeless pro- grams in Houston. Rev. Riley was born in Muskegon Heights, Michigan, on SepL 8, 1961. His parents are Bro. Freddie Riley and Sis. Izola Riley (deceased). He is a graduate of the Muskegon Heights High School and attended Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He was the son of Alfonso Davila Mendoza and Rachel Contreras. Funeral services were pending as of press time. A full obituary will follow in next week's Headlight. A 4-H Project sponsored by the Colorado County 4-H Council was held June 22 at the Columbus FFA grounds. Participants attended ses- sions demonstrating various projects available to 4-H members. Dr. Floron Faries, Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine, out- lined the program for the Veterinary Project. Participants learned how in- volvement in this project trains them for a career as a veterinary assistant or helps them focus on their high school education towards veterinary science. Brandy Tuck's presentation on Public Speaking included communi- cations activities, stressing skills learned in this project area. Six beagle puppies highlighted Lora Weishuhn's demonstration of the Dog Care and Training project. Chris Kulhanek and Nuuthew Ross taught skills used in the Sports- fishing project Each participant was able to dye their own fishing lure and learned two knots used for tying lures. 4-H Club Manager Beverly Tuck of the Colorado Soil and Water Con- servation District presented informa- tion on the Natural Resources Project and showed those attending how to test soil for nutrients needed for grow- ing healthy plants. 4-H Project held June 22
Andrew Joe Mendoza Andrew Joe Mendoza, 47, of Eagle Lake passed away July 3,2000. He was the son of Alfonso Davila Mendoza and Rachel Contreras. Funeral services were pending as of press time. A full obituary will follow in next week's Headlight.
A 4-H Project sponsored by the Colorado County 4-H Council was held June 22 at the Columbus FFA grounds. Participants attended ses- sions demonstrating various projects available to 4-H members.
Dr. Floron Faries, Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine, out- lined the program for the Veterinary Project. Participants learned how in- volvement in this project trains them for a career as a veterinary assistant or helps them focus on their high school education towards veterinary science.
Brandy Tuck's presentation on Public Speaking included communi- cations activities, stressing skills learned in this project area.

Chris Kulhanek and Nuuthew Ross taught skills used in the Sports- fishing project Each participant was able to dye their own fishing lure and learned two knots used for tying lures.
4-H Club Manager Beverly Tuck of the Colorado Soil and Water Con- servation District presented informa- tion on the Natural Resources Project and showed those attending how to test soil for nutrients needed for grow- ing healthy plants.
The goal of the Project fair was to introduce and interest members and non-members to project areas and ac- tivities in which they would not nor- mally be involved.
