LINCOLN — On June 3, English/Social Studies teach-er Kristin Cassarino received recognition when she was cel-ebrated as the District Teacher of the Year. Arms filled with balloons and flowers, Director Adam Flynn-Tabloff surprised her during her seventh-period class.
“Pick a hand, one is good news and one is bad,” Fly-nn-Tabloff said to Cassarino. “The good news is you’re District Teacher of the Year. And there is no bad news.”
He added “Mrs. Cassarino is so deserving of this recog-nition. She has been a cham-pion of teaching and learning
at Davies for many years. She is not only a fantastic class-room teacher but also a true resource to her colleagues as she continually offers engag-ing professional development focused on quality teaching strategies and technology in-tegration. She is an asset to Davies and a fantastic repre-sentative of our school.”
Cassarino, along with oth-er District Teachers of the Year, will be honored in Sep-tember at a special WaterFire in downtown Providence. The annual September fire is known as “A Salute to Rhode Island Educators.”
Outstanding faculty are
selected each spring when teachers from across Rhode Island are chosen to represent their local education agen-cies (LEAs). In addition to the opportunity to take part in WaterFire, teachers of the year can also participate in leadership professional devel-opment, collaborate with Dis-trict Teachers of the Year from across the state, and can apply to represent all of Rhode Is-land educators as the Rhode Island Teacher of the Year.
Consider attending Water-Fire in September to celebrate Mrs. Cassarino, who will be a torch-bearer, and to honor all Rhode Island educators.
