Purpose:

This assignment will enhance the research skills, analytical ability, logical thinking of students related

to Information Systems Management, which will help students in crucial areas of Information Systems

Management.

Learning Objectives:

This assignment is aimed at providing students with information and knowledge of applied aspects of

Information Systems Management. To learn about integration of information systems with business

processes. To inculcate a sense of awareness in the students for understanding crucial role of

information systems in taking various decisions.

Instructions:

Assignment should be in folder on A-4 size sheet in typed form with times new roman

style and font for heading should be 16, for subheading 14, and for normal text 12 with

1.5 line spacing. Unformatted or poorly formatted documents will be penalized

Students have to submit the soft copy of the assignment on portal along with plagiarism

report for the same. If the plagiarism report shows that more than 40% content is copied

from internet, the assignment will not to be accepted.

Students have to submit hard copy along with plagiarism report at reception along with

assignment submission form.

1. Case: Southern Bank Limited

Southern Bank Limited operates in three southern states of India. Its principal functions

include operating customers, saving, current and fixed accounts. It advances loans to

business organizations in the form of secured medium-term loans, to individuals for buying

consumer durables and overdraft facilities to selected organizations. Besides, it has invested

certain funds in Government Securities. The operations of the bank are conducted through

three regional offices and 110 branches. The bank presently has manual information

systems. It now wants to convert these systems into well-integrated computer-based

information’s systems. For this purpose, the bank wants to identify its subsystems.

Question

Suppose that you are required to advise the bank on the matter. How will you advise the

bank? You can make your assumptions about the functioning of the banking systems.

2. “Organizations should use strategic approach for determining their information

requirements so that they can use information systems to create competitive advantage”.

Discuss this statement and elaborate the strategic approaches that can be used to determine

information requirements.

3. What do you mean by data management? What are the methods used for storing files in

traditional file management? Discuss the problems involved in traditional file management.
