How ProScript LINK helps today’s pharmacy

AAH understands that the pharmacy of today must meet many dynamic demands – from industry and technology, to changing patient needs.

In our highly competitive age, pharmacies must also streamline and improve processes, promote itself in its marketplace, and attract and retain customers. Here’s how ProScript LINK has been developed to help pharmacies like yours to meet these challenges…

• Your pharmacy’s prescription and patient numbers are always rising. ProScript LINK is the ideal way to meet and manage the growing demand.

• You can free up pharmacy staff from time spent on paper-based prescription activities and assign them to activities that generate new revenue streams, like healthcare services.

• Using ProScript LINK tools, business owners and pharmacists can evaluate the pharmacy’s activities more accurately, to address the areas that need further development, and promote the activities that are of greatest benefit to the bottom line.

• By making ProScript LINK central to your dispensary offering,

you can provide patients the latest version of the EPS, which is already becoming familiar to the public – and the number of prescribers using it is increasing by the week.

• Choosing ProScript LINK, helps pharmacies like yours to stay connected with the prescribers and patients of the future.

• ProScript LINK helps pharmacies stay ahead of their competitors. Since 2005, 1,200 new pharmacy licences have been issued, making for an increasingly competitive environment.

ProScript LINK and the future

With 30 years experience, we believe ProScript LINK is ‘much more than a PMR system’. But to understand why, it may help to know more about PMR.

Technology is set to play an increasingly-important role in the pharmacies of tomorrow.

• ProScript LINK receives regular automatic updates to keep it aligned with technology, product and legislative changes.

• Updates to ProScript LINK happen ‘behind the scenes’ so pharmacy staff can run the system without interruptions or their own intervention.

• A fully encrypted backup of ProScript LINK is automatically performed daily ensuring the protection of vital, and confidential, patient and medication records.

We all know that changes in technology and legislation means the pharmacy industry is always evolving.

• That’s why AAH is continually working to keep ProScript LINK up-to-date.

• It means ProScript LINK customers can be confident that their PMR system is always one step ahead of the ever-changing pharmacy environment.

• For instance, ProScript LINK is fully compatible with the NHS National Programmes such as EPS R2 in England, AMS & CMS in Scotland, and 2DRx in Wales, and has recently launched Installment Dispensing into Northern Ireland.

• PMR represents ‘Patient Medication Record’ and as implied, it is a live database of the medicines prescribed and dispensed to an individual.

• A PMR system is an essential part of a pharmacy, recording vital information about the patient and their medication. It enables the pharmacist and pharmacy staff to provide a safe and effective pharmaceutical service.

• ProScript LINK is AAH’s PMR system for its customers. But, unlike other PMR systems, AAH’s ProScript LINK offers much more than the management of patient medication records, as you’ll discover later in this guide.

ProScript LINK now: EPS Release 2

ProScript LINK is fully compatible with the NHS National Programmes such as EPS R2 in England, AMS and CMS in Scotland, and 2DRx in Wales – and it has recently launched into Northern Ireland.

Electronic prescribing frees dispensing staff from the work associated with rekeying dispensing information.

It can also help pharmacies manage their stock control more effectively and order out-of-stock items in a timely manner.

Additionally, there are new benefits from the latest version, Release 2, which has various names according to the NHS National Programme that governs the pharmacy. For example it is known as EPS R2 in England, and 2DRx in Wales.

These new features mean, for instance, that patients can nominate a dispensing pharmacy – so staff who currently physically collect repeat prescriptions for such patients will no longer have to, saving time and resources.

As nominated electronic prescriptions (both acute and repeat) may be received before the patient’s arrival, Release 2 will also help pharmacy staff to streamline their workflow by preparing medications in advance.

And for claiming prescription payments and other reimbursements, the latest release allows pharmacies to manage and submit them electronically. Again, this frees staff from the time-consuming process of sorting and posting large prescription volumes every month.

Across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, 4.6 million prescriptions are issued every working day – and the figure is expected to rise.

Electronic prescribing represents a move to more efficient and accurate system that is better able to cope with the expected increase in prescription volumes.

Repeat medications account for about 70 per cent of prescriptions. Electronic prescribing aims to reduce the paper administration associated with the existing processes, by enabling prescriptions to be generated, transmitted and received electronically.

Dispensers will also be able to submit reimbursement endorsements electronically to support payment claims for medication and appliances supplied. Over time, the need for paper prescriptions will reduce significantly.

What is meant by electronic prescriptions?

How does electronic prescribing benefit our customers, independent pharmacies? What does Release 2 bring?
