- NEW SUNDAY SPANISH MASS 8AM INDOORS:

Starting on November 1st, a new Spanish Mass will

be presided every Sunday, 8AM. The attendance for this

celebration will require the use of face mask, social

distance and limitation of people inside of the building.

- NEW WEDNESDAY SPANISH MASS 9AM:

Starting on November 4th, all Wednesday morning

masses will be presided in Spanish.

POPE CALLS FAITHFUL TO PRAY, PARTICIPATE ACTIVELY IN POLITICS Catholics should not be indifferent to politics, Pope Francis said, but should offer their suggestions, as well as prayers

that their leaders may serve the common good in humility and love. In his Sept. 16 daily homily at Santa Marta, the Pope

rejected the idea that “a good Catholic doesn’t meddle in politics.”

“That’s not true. That is not a good path,” he said, according to Vatican Radio. “A good Catholic meddles in politics, of-

fering the best of himself, so that those who govern can govern.” “None of us can say, ‘I have nothing to do with this, they

govern,’” Pope Francis told those present for the Mass. Rather, citizens are responsible for participating in politics according

to their ability, and in this way are responsible for their leadership.

“Politics, according to the Social Doctrine of the Church, is one of the highest forms of charity, because it serves the

common good,” he explained. “I cannot wash my hands, eh? We all have to give something!” He noted that it is sometimes

common for people to speak only critically of their leaders, to complain about “things that don’t go well.” Instead of simply

complaining, we should offer ourselves – our ideas, suggestions, and most of all our prayers, the Holy Father said.

Observing that prayer is “the best that we can offer to those who govern,” he pointed to St. Paul’s letter to Timothy invit-

ing prayer for the conversion and strong leadership of those in authority.

Even if they believe certain politicians to be “wicked,” Christians should pray “that they can govern well, that they can

love their people, that they can serve their people, that they can be humble,” he said. At the same time, the Pope reflected

on the role of those who hold political power, stressing the need for humility and love.

Reflecting on the Gospel of the centurion who humbly and confidently asked for the healing of his servant, the Holy Fa-

ther explained that “a leader who doesn’t love, cannot govern – at best they can discipline, they can give a little bit of order,

but they can’t govern.” In addition, he emphasized, “You can’t govern without loving the people and without humility!”

“And every man, every woman who has to take up the service of government, must ask themselves two questions: ‘Do I

love my people in order to serve them better? Am I humble and do I listen to everybody, to diverse opinions in order to

choose the best path?’”

”If you don’t ask those questions, your governance will not be good,” Pope Francis continued. “The man or woman who

governs – who loves his people is a humble man or woman.”

UN BUEN CATÓLICO DEBE ENTROMETERSE EN POLÍTICA, DICE EL PAPA

En la Misa que celebró esta mañana en la Casa Santa Marta, el Papa Francisco señaló que un buen católico debe en-

trometerse en la política y que lo contrario no es un buen camino para los fieles. El Santo Padre recordó que "la política -

dice la Doctrina Social de la Iglesia- es una de las formas más elevadas de la caridad, porque sirve al bien común. No pue-

do lavarme las manos, ¿eh? ¡Todos tenemos que dar algo!" Hay la costumbre de solo hablar mal de los gobernantes y so-

¡siempre lo malo, siempre en contra!".

Quizás, "el gobernante, si, es un pecador, como lo era David, pero yo debo colaborar con mi opinión, con mi palabra,

también con mi corrección" porque ¡todos "debemos participar al bien común!". Y si "tantas veces hemos escuchado: que

‘un buen católico no se mezcla en política’, esto no es verdad, ese no es un buen camino".

"Un buen católico no se inmiscuye en política. Eso no es cierto. Este no es un buen camino. Un buen católico debe en-

trometerse en política, dando lo mejor de sí, para que el gobernante pueda gobernar. Y ¿qué es lo mejor que podemos of-

recer a los gobernantes? ¡La oración! Eso es lo que dice Pablo: ‘La oración para todos los hombres y para el rey y para

todos los que están en el poder’. ‘Pero, Padre, aquella es una mala persona, debe ir al infierno...’. "Reza por él, reza por

ella, para que pueda gobernar bien, para que ame a su pueblo, para que sirva a su pueblo, para sea humilde"

"¡Un cristiano que no reza por los gobernantes no es un buen cristiano!’Pero, Padre, cómo puedo orar por esta persona

que no va ...’. ‘Reza para que se convierta’. Rezar. Y esto no lo digo yo, lo dice San Pablo, la Palabra de Dios".

El Papa, señala Radio Vaticano, reflexionó sobre la Carta de San Pablo a Timoteo en la que le pide rezar por los go-

bernantes. Quien gobierna, dijo, "debe amar a su pueblo", porque "un gobernante que no ama, no puede gobernar: al máxi-

mo podrá disciplinar, poner un poco de orden, pero no gobernar". El Santo Padre citó a David, "a cómo amaba a su pueb-

lo", tanto que después del pecado del censo pide al Señor de no castigar al pueblo sino a él. Así, "las dos virtudes de un

gobernante" son el amor por el pueblo y la humildad.

"No se puede gobernar al pueblo sin amor y sin humildad. Y cada hombre, cada mujer que tiene que tomar posesión de

un servicio público, debe hacerse estas dos preguntas: ‘¿Amo a mi pueblo para servirle mejor? ¿Soy humilde y oigo lo que

dicen todos los otros, las diferentes opiniones para elegir el mejor camino?’. Si no se hace estas preguntas su gobierno no

va a ser bueno. El hombre o la mujer gobernante que ama a su pueblo, es un hombre o una mujer humilde".

San Pablo exhorta a los gobernantes a elevar oraciones "por todos aquellos que están en el poder, para que podamos

conducir una vida calma y tranquila". Los ciudadanos, observó el Papa, no pueden desinteresarse de la política.

Ninguno puede decir: "Yo no tengo nada que ver con esto, son ellos los que gobiernan... No, no, yo soy responsable de

su gobierno y tengo que hacer lo mejor, para que ellos gobiernen bien y tengo que hacer lo mejor por participar en la políti-

ca como pueda".

Por lo tanto, concluyó el Papa, "demos lo mejor de nosotros, ideas, sugerencias, lo mejor, pero sobre todo lo mejor está

la oración. Oremos por los gobernantes, para que nos gobiernen bien, para que lleven a nuestra patria, a nuestra nación, y

también al mundo adelante, para que exista la paz y el bien común".
