REFLECTIONS PROGRAM THEME

PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY?

The Reflections Program is open to all Texas students

who meet the necessary requirements :

Schools Supported by a Local PTA/PTSA

Any Local PTA/PTSA that attains Active Status no later than

October 31 is eligible to sponsor Reflections on their campus.

PTAs who are not in Good Standing may affect students’ eligibility

to receive awards from Texas PTA.

Visit txpta.org/standards-of-continuing-affiliation for more

information about Active Status and Good Standing.

Local chair will contact

a membership VP to verify

the membership. If there is no

record, contact a family member

Don’t forget to verify membership

status.If it is indicated ‘need to join’,

please contact a student/family

member

Reflections is a Member program

The Student or at least one person from

their primary household must be a current

member1of the Local PTA/PTSA where the

student is participating. Each Local

PTA/PTSA may determine a date by which

the member must join.

1 The Local PTA membership year is August 1 – July 31

each year.

• Entry into Special Artist Division is verified with parent’s signature, do not ask for proof of disability

• Student has a choice of entering as Special Artist or under the Traditional Grade Division

• Follow Special Artist Guidelines for guidance on accommodations(i.e. holding camera, typing, etc.)

• Utilize social media and local artists

• Offer a virtual master class with community or high school aged artists in specific areas such as drawing, painting, story boarding, film or dance techniques, etc.

• Create a virtual helpdesk on specific tasks such as completing the student entry form or preparing files for digital advancement

• Share your ideas with over 8,000 program leaders on social media using #TexasPTA, #PTAReflections, #localschool, #localISD, etc!!

• Ask to join a staff meeting to promote the program with teachers and administraitors

RECRUIT VOLUNTEER JUDGES

1. Start early by identifying local artists and cultural

organizations/businesses in your community.

2. Make a team of 2 or more for each Arts Category

3. Recruit artists with formal training/experience in the literary, media,

performing and visual arts to increase the credibility of your

program. Ask someone who has an understanding of children’s

minds and make it clear that this is a program to promote the Arts

and not a CONTEST.

4. Find digital judging ideas within the How To Host A Virtual

Reflections Program document and utilize the tools provided on the

Texas PTA website under the heading, Reflections Judging in

Seven Easy Steps.
