We are year 9 pupils at Sutton Grammar School. We are just about to choose our

options for GCSE. One of these options is PE, which we are all considering doing. This

has become the inspiration for our app.

About Us

Page 3: 9.1 Group 4

• For GCSE PE you have to be assessed on 3 sports.

• Not all people who do this option play 3 sports to a good standard when they first start the course, this has been the case for some of us.

• The app is designed to help you choose a sport and tell you where you can play it.

• We were inspired to think about alternative sports and sports are not usually popular by the Winter Olympic games.

Why did we come up with our app?

Page 4: 9.1 Group 4

What new sport could I start playing and where

could I play it?

Core Question

Target Market

We have specifically said how our app can be used by PE GCSE students. However, it can just as easily be used by anyone, making the app versatile. This means that parents or children can find new sports and places to play those sports.

It could also be useful for someone moving to a new area as they want to know how they can carry on with their sporting hobbies from their previous area.

This app could also be used by teachers showing their students how to get involved in sports.

Our App Summary

Sportify shows different sports. There are categories and a suggested for you page which helps you to search for the sport you want. When you go onto the page for a specific sport it shows rules, tactics a video of the sport and a map showing where you can play it. This map will use GPS and is the core feature of our app.

Lots of people consider starting a new sport but never get round to it

as they are not sure of how and where to do this.

Key Statements

Page 8: 9.1 Group 4

We have surveyed people in our school, who are considering taking GCSE PE, asking them “What 3 sports will you do?”

We asked 40 people, who were considering doing PE GCSE, what 3 sports they would do. 30 of them could only think of 2 sports. Of those 30, 24 said they would think the app would be useful.Do people think the app is

useful?People who think the app would be usefulPeople who think the app isn't useful

Our Survey

Page 9: 9.1 Group 4

We searched through the google play store and the only competition was an app which showed you local events for a sport. This is

not very similar to our app idea.

The app allows you to not only find out what sports are out there, but you can learn the rules of the game, tactics, and where you can play.

We spoke to Mr Blunt (a GCSE PE teacher and a parent at our school). He thought the idea was great. Specifically the feature that allows you to find out where you can play.

“ Yes, if you can get people out there looking for new sports, that’s great, as a parent I always want to get my children

involved in sports.”

Core Features

Page 11: 9.1 Group 4

As can be seen in our app design on Balsamiq we will have a tool bar at the bottom of the page with hyperlinks to 3 slides, Categories, Favourites and Suggested. Categories is the home page.

This will allow users to shortcut to specific pages within the app. So they do not have to press back space constantly.

Our app does not need much data as it is mostly text and images. However, there will

also be links to videos but these do not have to be watched.

GPS will also be used so a signal will be required to work some aspects of the app.

Data, Content and Technical Feasibility

Page 18: 9.1 Group 4

The app will be free and have no in app purchases as nobody will want to spend money on this app they will just use the internet. The app is more useful than the internet and it is much easier to learn about sports from it.

We could go on to add adverts from sports clubs depending on their area. An example of this is if you book through Sportify you get a 10% discount. This could also persuade people to download the app as they will be saving money from certain sports clubs.

Another thing we can add to the app is social media links. This would allow you to invite friends to look at the page for the sport you are interested in and you could then use it to invite them to play the sport at a place suggested by the app.

Business Model

Page 19: 9.1 Group 4

We are going to advertise. We could use social network sites like

Facebook as this will be seen by our teenage target market
