Until further notice, Bishop Joseph Kopacz asks all parishes, missions, institutes and schools to discontinue distribution of the Precious Blood from the chalice to the congregation at all Masses; and urges communicants to receive the consecrated host in the hand if at all possible. For the Sign of Peace, we ask that you share a simple bow or nod or something similar and refrain from shaking hands as hands are focal points of germ transfer. First and foremost, for the foreseeable future, I hereby dispense from the obligation to attend Mass ALL Catholics (in addition to the elderly and anyone with a serious underlying medical condition for whom contracting the coronavirus may be a life-threatening situa-tion)…….Parishioners are to receive the consecrated host in the hand. Receiving communion on the tongue is suspended effective immediately……….Parishioners are not to hold hands during the Our Father, if that is the practice of the parish. All School Masses are suspended…..All Healing Masses for the sick and elderly are here-by suspended for the protection of the most vulnerable. Commu-nal reconciliation services are suspended. All parishes, missions, schools, institutions must implement a disinfection/cleaning strate-gy consisting of a crew of people to wipe down all pews, doors, han-dles, and commonly touched surfaces after each Mass.
