Gewiss ReStart is a unique, worldwide patented range of Automatic Reclosing Devices (ARDs). These devices automatically reset Residual

Current Devices (RCDs).

This groundbreaking technology means that you can finally wave goodbye to the need to manually reset an RCD after the

inconvenience of nuisance tripping.

Since introducing ReStart, Gewiss have been heavily involved in the creation of European Norm EN 50557. This EN Standard is based on

Gewiss’ technological breakthrough with the development of ReStart, and this involvement guarantees full compliance to the new

European Norm.

By installing Gewiss ReStart, associated protected circuits are automatically maintained. This eliminates the possibility of safe,

healthy circuits being incorrectly left isolated after a nuisance trip. Although nuisance tripping is inevitable, Gewiss ReStart will

dramatically reduce downtime and so consequentially also reduce the devastating effects that this will have in a wide variety of

applications.

Below we list just a few of the many applications which can be severely affected by downtime, and so benefit greatly by the Gewiss

ReStart range of ARDs:

It is not until a power supply becomes isolated that we acknowledge our dependence on, and the importance of, reliable electricity in our

everyday lives, as well as in business and specific applications. The key benefit of ReStart is peace of mind; your safe, functioning circuit

is maintained automatically, whatever the application!

By installing Gewiss ReStart the nuisance and disruption associated with untimely tripping is almost removed entirely, with a delay of

between just 10 and 90 seconds between a trip and the safe restarting of the circuit.

In order to maintain guaranteed safety, the Gewiss ReStart tests the status of the circuit after any trip, and only recloses the associated

device if safe to do so. The intelligent device will act according to the test results, with the reclosing thresholds pre-determined during

manufacturing. If the fault is critical this will be identified during the circuit test, blocking the reclosing mechanism. The RCD would then

require a manual override once the fault has been removed or rectified.

Included in the extensive range, ReStart Pro versions are available in both 2 Pole and 4 Pole. In fact all 4 Pole versions have Pro

characteristics. These Pro versions offer the maximum possible sophistication, as in addition to the normal resetting functionality,

they also provide continuous circuit monitoring.

This feature enables the Restart Pro device to continuously check the circuit even after a critical fault, so it will reset the RCD once the fault is

cleared. ReStart Pro also provides integrated auxiliary contacts, meaning status updates about the devices condition can be sent to a

mobile phone or computer.

Gewiss ReStart with Autotest completes the ReStart Range. This device is another flagship innovation for Gewiss. While maintaining the same unique functions as Gewiss Restart, Restart with Autotest is the only Automatic Reclosing Device currently available which also self-checks

the working condition of the RCD automatically.

The implications of this functionality are profound. RCDs are life-saving devices, but only when functioning correctly. Studies have shown that a

percentage of currently installed RCDs are faulty and will not operate when needed. All manufacturers should recommend RCDs be checked on a quarterly basis as per the Regulations, but the checks are rarely carried out. Typically they are forgotten, ignored or simply not made

clear enough to the user.

By installing Gewiss ReStart with Autotest, the safe working condition of the paired RCD is automatically tested on a monthly basis. As a result of the regular mechanical operation, the safe working condition of the RCD

is maintained for longer, saving money and potentially lives.

An equally impressive feature to note about the ReStart with Autotest is that there is no interruption to the power supply while the test occurs,

meaning no special precautions need to be taken. Once it is installed you can just forget about it and relax completely!

The entire range of ReStart products meet a multitude of installation

requirements as the full offer comprises devices that safely reclose RCDs and RCBOs. They are available in mono-bloc form as well as

modular, meaning they can be added on to protection devices, or supplied complete. Installation is easily achieved as the entire range is

suitable for standard EN50022 din rail, enabling compatibility with the wide range of enclosures available from Gewiss, as well as third party

enclosures.
