Congratulations
Welcome to Mrs Gripske, our new Guidance Officer. While
she has already been working at the College this term, her
appointment has been made permanent.
Accessing the College Grounds at all Campuses
Thank you to all parents who follow school safety procedures
and make their way to the office when entering any campus.
This is an essential safety measure for all students, staff and
parents. Parents collecting students for appointments, dropping
off forgotten lunches or equipment or wanting messages
delivered must use the office, not go to class areas.
Parents and students are also reminded that the school grounds
are off limits on weekends and after school, except for the
timeframes of activities pre-booked with the College.
Supervision of all children is expected in this time.

Writing Stimulus: The Case of the Missing
Goldfish
One night Led Zeppelin was playing loudly through the
house when I noticed that Anikon was missing! So I went
to give Tom, our cat, his lunch and noticed he was
particularly full. Something fishy was going on! Then I
noticed a crack in Anikon’s bowl that looked like ‘TOM’.
The music had cracked the fish bowl in the form of TOM
and drained the water. When Tom walked past, he ate the
dead fish. That’s why he was full. FFeeww. Case
cracked!
By Rory
This is the case of my missing lunch. Maybe it got on its
fins and ran away. I’m going to find it!
By Katelin
One relaxing afternoon, there was a cat and a goldfish….
They did not like each other at all! The cat always tried to
eat the fish for breakfast, lunch and dinner! He even tried
to eat the fish when I wasn’t looking, so we had to leave
the fish up high whenever we weren’t at home. So as I
was saying, one relaxing afternoon, I decided to go to the
pool with my friends and…. I forgot to put the fish in a
high place where the cat couldn’t reach it! After I came
back from the pool, I thought everything was going to be
fine but… my goldfish was gone!
By Erin
Hello, my name is Detective Sir Meows a lot. I’m pretty
important around this busy household. I’m on a super
important mission. This is how it started this morning. I
was having a delightful catnap, when suddenly I heard a
revolting sound so I followed it and there was Jake, the
toddler. He cried and screamed, so screechy too! Jake
was crying about the missing goldfish. I said to myself,
“The case of the missing goldfish.” I ran as fast as I
could to get my detective suit.

PEER SKILLS
Last week, sixteen Year 7 and 8 students trained as peer helpers in the Lifeline Community Care 2-day Peer Skills workshop facilitated by Mrs Deb Flesser and Ms Talia Ciampi. The workshop aimed to provide the students with the confidence and skills they need to respond in the best possible way when a friend turns to them with a concern or problem. Young people play an important role in supporting peers as they often first turn to their friends when troubled. The workshop also trained students in support skills, communication and problem solving strategies and provided them with information about local agencies. These students will also be part of a group of peer helpers who will support students in Year 4 and 5 during identified breaks. Students involved were:
YEAR 7 YEAR 8 Edward Schefe Jacob Easton Fletcher Ferguson Remi Qualischefski Lauren Betts
George Shaw Heather Proud Blayk Mansfield Antonia Hendry-Ratima Jack Bergemann Lauren Squire Edward Graham Keili White Levi Walsh Meg Dawes Heidi Seawright
Organ and Tissue Donation
If you'd say yes to a life-saving transplant....have you said yes to becoming an organ and tissue donor? The Year 12 Health class delivered an emotional Organ Donation campaign to the year 11 and 12 cohort this week to promote student awareness of organ and tissue donation. Have you had the conversation? It is important to know that in Australia the family of every potential donor will be asked to confirm the donation decision of their loved one before organ and tissue donation for transplantation can proceed. Some families have discussed organ and tissue donation and may already know their loved one's donation decisions. Other families who have not discussed donation will also need to make a decision about whether their loved one will become a donor. Show Support Show your support by joining the #endthewait campaign today. Are you on the Australian Organ Donor Register? Share your decision on social media, and challenge others to register and share their decision. To register, visit http://www.donatelife.gov.au/decide. At the age of 16 students can register their intent to donate. Register today. #donatelife Some Facts Organ and tissue donation involves removing organs and tissues from someone who has died (a donor) and transplanting them into someone who, in many cases, is very ill or dying (a recipient).
Organs that can be transplanted include the heart,
lungs, liver, kidneys, intestine and pancreas.
Tissues that can be transplanted include heart
valves and other heart tissue, bone, tendons,
ligaments, skin and parts of the eye, such as the
cornea and sclera.
The Organ and Tissue Authority (OTA) works with states and territories, clinicians and the community sector to deliver the Australian Government’s national reform programme to improve organ and tissue donation and transplantation outcomes in Australia. If you would like to discover, decide and discuss more on organ and tissue donation please visit http://www.donatelife.gov.au/.

Year 10 Work Experience
At Roma State College we are committed to
providing opportunities for our Year 10 students to
complete a minimum of one week of work
experience in the year. Each student has been able to
nominate a specific job they want to work in or an
industry that they are interested in and will be given
the chance to learn, first-hand, what a week of “real
work” entails.
Our students will be involved in industries such as
Health, Business, Fitness, Retail, Hospitality and
many trades around Roma and the Maranoa Region.
This initiative will provide students with the
opportunity to refine existing skills and develop new
skills. I am positive that the program will be a
positive and valuable experience for each of our
students and will assist them in to choosing a career
pathway that is engaging, enjoyable and successful.
