Transcript of 9-July-2014 Open Source Software Panel - GNOME Outreach Program for Women introduction
Who Mozilla is
Mozilla has been around since 1998 Known for being the makers of Firefox
We are that but we are also Internet Champions who empower people to reach their full potential through open systems Started as a tiny open source project now a community of 10k+ actively contributing people globally, about a 10:1 volunteer/staff ratio (and millions of engaged users and supporters) And, we’ve been involved in OPW for three years http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/mission/ http://www.mozilla.org/contribute
Outreach Program for Women
The Outreach Program for Women (OPW) helps women (cis and trans) and genderqueer get involved
in free and open source software. We provide a supportive community for beginning to contribute any time throughout the year and offer focused internship
opportunities twice a year with a number of free software organizations.

Application Process • Three Steps: • explore the participating organizations & their projects • make a small contribution to the project of your choice • submit an application to OPW
• Tips and tricks: • don't submit the application until you've made the required initial
contribution (unless it's only a few days until the application deadline and you are already working on your contribution)
• can apply to multiple organizations • submit one application per organization • if you contribute to multiple projects for same organization, list in single
application • can list multiple projects or organizations you have not contributed to, but
would be interested to work on if your first choice was not available, in the question about what projects you are interested in.
• even though you *can* apply to multiple organizations, you are encouraged to focus on one project that interests you the most
• if you have a strong application overall, but the project you are applying for has too many strong applicants, we will be sure to redirect you to a different project
