Pixie Lott-Broken ArrowEllie High

Page 2: 9 frame analysis

First shot in the video is an establishing shot of the first scene using a vertical pan to introduce it to the audience. We can see that it looks like some sort of party as people are dressed up in shirts.

The music video uses a lot of close up shots just like this one to portray the singer as you can see Pixie is a very pretty girl therefore people watch it just to see her in the music video. This also follows Andrew Goodwin’s famous theory that “record companies demand close up’s of the main artist or vocalist”. This fits in with this video.

A close up of the artist has been used again but half of the screen has been blocked by a person setting off an enigma to the audience as people wonder what she is looking at as she looks like she has a slight look of confusion on her face but if you watch on we would know that she has spotted her ex boyfriend and tries to look for him. The low key lighting also gives the shot a dull saddened touch as to how she was probably feeling at the time.

Page 5: 9 frame analysis

A medium shot has been used to show her being upset about the situation. Although she has feelings for her new boyfriend she still loves her ex and she shows that no matter what she still thinks about him.

Page 6: 9 frame analysis

This medium shot shows her with her new boyfriend but we can tell she is thinking about other things. The canted angle used on the camera gives the shot an unsteady feel and shows that something isn’t right. The sepia colouring in the shot also dulls down the frame but the sunlight coming through from the top left corner of the screen slightly brightens up the shot.

This shows a long shot of the artist lying on the floor to the bottom of the screen. I feel it shows elegance because of the soft colours she has worn and the blue/silver colours in the background show the calmness in the shot. The shot also shows her in sharp focus so that people concentrate on her throughout the shot where as the background is blurred. Also Laura Mulvey’s “Male Gaze Theory” can be used in this shot and throughout the video because of the way males are towards women like Pixie.

A medium shot has been used to show her and her new boyfriend in happier times so it is a flashback. It is also quite a wide shot so that we can see the background. The shot is light and we can see them both smiling adding to the effectiveness of the shot.

This shot shows a close up of the artist. We can see she is upset in this shot because of the tears. Also the lighting adds to the effect of the mood portrayed. Also sharp focus has been used on her as you can see the background is slightly blurred out to make the audience concentrate purely on her. Once again following Andrew Goodwin’s theory of the close ups of the main vocalist.

The long shot used here is showing her with her ex-boyfriend. They seem quite content. This means she is thinking about both her new and old boyfriend meaning she has feelings for both. Andrew Goodwin’s theory of voyeurism supports this shot. As the audience feel they shouldn’t be looking into the what the couple are doing. Also the lighting of the shot shows the intimacy between the pair.
