GENERAL SAFETY GUIDELINES Symbols Used in this manual
This manual uses a variety of symbols and pictograms. The symbols are used to aid with the understanding of the information and to emphasise the level of importance of instructions with regard to the safety of the machine.
Read and understand the instructions fully
Hazard warning if ignored may result in injury or death
Mandatory warns of action that must be taken to avoid injury or damage
Caution informs of actions that will prevent damage
Prohibition instructs what must NOT be carried out
Note information of interest that will be useful in operating the machine
Symbols and labels Used in this manual
On the machine are a variety of symbols and labels which are used to warn of hazards, give instructions what must be carried out and what must not be done in order to ensure safe use. The symbols are used to reinforce the information and to emphasise the importance of instructions with regard to the safety of the machine.
Hazard signs are a yellow triangle with a black border. The symbol is black and in the centre of the sign
Mandatory signs are a blue disc. The symbol is white and in the centre of the sign
Prohibition signs are a white background with a red circular band and cross bar. The symbol is black and in the centre of the sign

Wear appropriate eye protection
Use an hair net to constrain long hair
Wear appropriate safety foot wear

Read the instructions
Switch off when not in use
Do not lubricate or work on rotating parts
Personal Protection
Appropriate personal protective equipment must be worn while operating the machine
Always wear appropriate eye protection

Always wear an appropriate face mask when cutting materials that cause dust
Always wear ear protection in noisy enviroments
Do not wear loose clothing, neckties, rings, bracelets, necklaces or other jewellery that may get caught in moving parts

Keep proper balance & footing at all times. Never stand on tools or machinery
Working Environment
The following is information about the necessary conditions for the safe working of the machine. Keep work areas clean, cluttered areas invite accidents.
Clean up all fluid spills
Do not leave tools or equipment lying around
Do not leave cleaning cloths or rags on or around the machine
Do not use in an explosive atmosphere
Do not use outdoors
Do not use above 1000 metres (3280 feet) altitude
Do not use in extreme temperatures below -5C (23F) or above +50C (122F)
Always keep bystanders and onlookers a safe distance from machine
Machine Safety
The following is information about the necessary precautions for the safe working of the machine
Ensure guards are correctly fitted before starting
Ensure there is no sign of damage to the machine before starting
Never attempt to override or circumvent any interlocked or safety devices
Always remove adjusting keys or tools before turning on
Always use clamps, chucks or vices to hold work or tooling never use hands
Never leave any running machine unattended
Never leave loose parts on the machine
Tool Usage
The following is information about the necessary conditions for safe use of tools.
Use the correct tool
All cutting tools should be correctly ground
All tools should be maintained in good condition
All tools should be kept clean
Use the correct cutting speed, feed rate and depth of cut
Use the tools within its designed parameters
Never force the tool or attachment to do a job for which I was not attended
Personnel working with any machine tools are advised to follow the Safety Guidelines stated below in order to prevent accidents that may occur. Appropriate personal protective equipment (such as glasses, dust coat, safety shoes, etc) MUST be worn while operating the machine. Long hair or neck tie MUST be tightened up. Hand gloves should NEVER be used. Workpiece and cutting tool MUST be properly clamped. Chuck key MUST be removed from the chuck when not in use. Make sure there is NO loosened part left on the machine table. Make sure you know how to operate the machine before switching it on. Machine guards MUST be put in position while operating. Keep hands away from any rotating objects. Cutters being used should be correctly ground and in good condition. Use correct cutting speed, feed rate, and depth of cut from time to time. Spilled oil or cutting fluid on the floor MUST be wiped off immediately. NEVER use hand file or emery cloth for finishing lathe work pieces. Do not leave any running machine unattended.
