Cooling System. The 826G Series IIis designed specifically for landfillcompactors operating at 100 percentengine load. At these conditions, the ambient capability is abovethe benchmark of 43 degrees C(110 degrees F), demonstrating themachine’s purpose-built cooling system.

Advanced Modular Cooling System(AMOCS). The G-Series II coolingsystem has been upgraded to theAdvanced Modular Cooling System(AMOCS). It is a Caterpillar exclusivetechnology that improves serviceability. The brass tubes on the AMOCS arestraight and in-line, along with six finsper inch, making the radiator easy tokeep clean. The tubes are welded to alarge, thick header, providing the strengthof the tube-header joint, reducing thepossibility of coolant leaks.

Roof-Mounted Air Conditioner. Makesthe rear cooling package easier to cleanbecause the A/C core is removed fromthe rear. It also reduces the frequencyof cleaning for the condenser core, providing better cooling to the cab forlonger periods of time.

Hinged Oil Cooler Core. Swings out30 degrees from the radiator for easiercleaning.

(1) Air Inlet Screen. Is vertically-corrugated, fine mesh to help reducetrash from entering the radiator areaand allow debris to fall off.

(2) Auto-Reversing, Hydraulically-Driven Fan. Is an electronicallycontrolled, hydraulically driven,on-demand fan system that reducessound levels and increases fueleconomy while providing maximumcooling efficiency by directing powerthrough the system as needed. Withelectronic control of the continuouslyvariable-speed, on-demand fan, temperature levels of the enginecoolant, transmission oil, hydraulic oiland air inlet manifold are constantlymonitored. This information is used tocontrol and maintain fan speed at thelevel necessary to maintain normalsystem temperatures. It also reversesdirection for 20 seconds every30 minutes or manually from the cab,to purge the intake screens of debris.

(3) Swing-Out Radiator Fan. The fancan swing out 65 degrees to provideaccess to the cooling cores from the sideopposite the direction of airflow. This isthe ideal side from which to clean theradiator and enables the system to beaccessed wrench-free and cleaned in15 minutes or less.

Standard Equipment. The standardmachine offering is the long-life PlusTip that provides excellent traction andside-hill stability with a self-cleaninglayout that resists plugging or the self-cleaning chopper blades for shreddingmaterial, the special application tractiontip. All choices are specifically designedfor our Caterpillar steel wheels.

Plus Tips. With Abrasion-ResistanceMaterial (ARM) have a plus-shapeddesign for superior compaction andsidehill stability on sloped material.A widely spaced tip pattern requirefewer tips than competitors and resultsin less plugging, lower replacement costand maximum compaction. Plus Tipsare guaranteed for 10,000 hours or fouryears of wear life. They offer the lowestcost per hour of any compactor tips inthe industry.

Self Cleaning Chopper Wheels. Are designed to deliver maximumcompaction and traction. Aggressivechopping action is provided by 24 bladesper wheel. Heat-treated DH-2, AbrasionResistant Material steel blades providelonger wear. The staggered chevronblade arrangement evenly distributeschopping coverage. Blade centergussets help assure maximum refusedemolition. Blades are mounteddifferently on the front and rear wheelsto maximize chopping and compactionin both forward and reverse.

Weld-On Traction Tips. Are designedfor landfill applications where maximumtraction is required. These tips performbest in frozen or other difficult topenetrate applications. Designed andbuilt to Caterpillar standards, these tipsare forged for maximum strength andAbrasion Resistant Material is appliedto critical wear areas.

Smooth Wheel Option. If our tipselection does not meet your needs, consider our Caterpillar smooth steelwheel. We test and build a Caterpillarsystem. Engineers who work togetherwith our power train, structures andmanufacturing engineers design andmanufacture our wheels in the samefacility in which the machines aredesigned and built. This ensures theentire system is complemented by eachcomponent. If you alter components, you could compromise a system thatwas designed and tested for peakperformance. If a wheel is produced thatdoes not meet our design specificationsand does not balance the load over ourfinal drives, it could reduce the life ofthe bearing substantially and wear outother components creating unnecessarydowntime. This also allows our standardaxle guard system to work with thecomponents for which it was designed.

6

Wheels and TipsCaterpillar offers a choice of tips and blades welded on our own steel wheels that will fityour needs. No matter what your choice may be, it is part of the total system our compactorsoffer: maximum production, performance and compaction.

Hydraulic System. Provides low-effortblade control. Seat-mounted levers sendelectrical signals to a pilot valve mountedon the front frame. This moves the sound, heat and effort caused by a hydraulicvalve out of the operator’s station.

Command Control Steering. A mechanicalfeedback system combines with valveratio to provide quarter-turn, side-to-sidesteering. Unlike systems that rely onsteering wheel velocity to activatesteering cylinders, this system directlylinks steering wheel position toarticulation. The speed the machineturns is proportional to the steeringwheel position. The benefit is precisecontrol, quicker response anddramatically reduced operator motionand effort.

Hydraulic Power Steering. Featurescenter-point frame articulation thatpermits the front and rear wheels totrack. Hydraulic power is a flow-amplified system, with full-flow filtering. The steering wheel operated pilot valvecontrols flow to the steering cylinders. The steering angle is ±42°.

Load Sensing Steering. Maximizesmachine performance by directing powerto the steering system only when theoperator steers the machine. This allowsmore power to be applied to the groundwhen the machine is not being steered. It also helps decrease fuel consumptionbecause the steering system does notconstantly draw on the engine.

Positive-Displacement Hydraulic Pumps.Perform with high efficiency and greatreliability. For improved serviceability, all hydraulic pumps are mounted on asingle pump drive.

Lift Lines. Are located in a high locationabove the cylinder yoke where damagefrom debris is less likely.

XT-3 and XT-5 Hose. Along with O-ringface seals and a large capacity liftcylinder top off the hydraulic system, delivering the performance and durabilityowners expect. Reliable componentsreduce the risk of leaks and blown lines, helping protect the environment andreducing operating costs.

7

HydraulicsWell-balanced hydraulics deliver precise, low-effort control and trouble-free operation.
