2 SUNRISE NEWS AND VIEWS September 2011

Martha’s Musings . .Tell me the stories of Jesus I love to hear

Things I would ask him to tell me if he were here.Scenes by the wayside, tales of the sea,

Stories of Jesus, tell them to me.

Tell me the stories of Jesus – I loved to sing in Junior Choir, and I have loved tolearn stories of Jesus in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Women’s Circles,Seminary and Bible studies ever since. Tell me the stories of Jesus – guides usat Sunrise as we share these stories with one another. Tell me the stories of Jesus –

leads our Christian Education Committee to plan our educational programs.Sunday School begins on September 11. We have classes for young and old at 10:45 fol-

lowing Fellowship Time. Our youngest members will find a comfortable spot in the nursery, andthe burgeoning pre-school class will have lots of helpers with great smiles and hugs. Lisa McFad-den will be leading the Kids of the Kingdom Choir during the first 10 minutes of Sunday School.Classes for our kindergarten and elementary youth will be fun and focus on those great stories ofJesus. Our youth classes will discuss how the stories impact their lives. Adults have the opportuni-ty to keep studying the stories in the Present Word class and to ask the question “What’s the Least ICan Believe in and Still be a Christian?” in the Parlor Class.

We keep telling those stories on Tuesdays at Noon Bible Study beginning September 13,and on Wednesdays at God’s Kids beginning September 14. Jackie Thompson has lots of greatplans for stories, games and fun. Youth Groups also begin on the 14th with good discussion and fun.The Sunrise Deli will open that day also. The deli offers a quick supper for youth and adults.

Wednesday night studies will begin at 5:30 on the 13th. We will begin the year studying theRob Bell’s bestseller, God Wins, A Book About Heaven, Hell and the Fate of Every Person Who Ev-er Lived. You do not need to have read the book to participate in the class – but you do need to beready to enter into lively discussion!

Music offers us another way to tell the stories of Jesus. Chancel Choir has already begunrehearsals for the year. We welcome Kathy House who will serve as our God’s Kids Choir Direc-tor, Youth Ensemble Director and Bell Choir Director this year. God’s Kids Choir begins their re-hearsals on September 13 at 5:00. The Youth Ensemble will rehearse that day at 5:30 and the BellChoir will rehearse at 8:00.

We are telling the stories of Jesus to young and old and to all in between. We are laughing, singing, and questioning while we are learning. Join us for one of these times – bring a friend –come listen to the stories of Jesus so that we can tell them afresh.

Love,Martha

September News from Christian Education

Follow us on Facebook: Parents and Youth, we have a new, church wide, consolidated Facebook page.

Search Sunrise Presbyterian Church of Salina, KS and add us as a friend. We will be communicatingimportant information about youth dates, Sunday school, God’s Kids and other activities on this page. Thisreally can be an extremely effective form of communication. All you have to do is search: Sunrise Presbyteri-an Education page and then “Like” the page. From there you will receive any information from the wall.

Youth Adult and Parents: We are responsible for picking up donuts, serving, and cleaning up the remnants for

the Coffee Hours in September. If you are interested in volunteering, come by the Christian Educationbulletin board and put your name down to help.

The Mission Trip was truly amazing this year and we can’t wait to share our pictures, stories, thoughts, and thanks with all of you that helped make the trip possible. On September 18th, after the Sunday schoolhour, we will be giving a full report on the activities, sharing photos and maybe even a song. It is a potluck, sobring a dish and enjoy.

A Tremendous Thank You is owed to all of you who helped support our mission trip. Your donationsof food, supplies, and money made it possible for us to go out and serve. We are truly blessed at Sunrise tohave a wonderful congregation and a mission heart. Thank you again to everyone who supported us.

This year we are making a few exciting changes to God’s Kids. Last year we had a tremendously success-ful program with an average of 15 kids attending. In order to make it even better we have moved recreation tothe beginning of the program, extended Bible study, and incorporated the Shiners Choir into God’s Kids. These changes have resulted in adding an additional 30 minutes to our scheduled time. So this year, God’sKids will run from 3:30 to 5:30. We hope this works for all you parents. We really feel like the changes willresult in a superior program.

FINANCIAL FLASHAugust

Thank you, Sunrise for your generosity! The sharing of your financial resources has beenvery helpful as we strive to provide for the missionsof Sunrise. As you know, our missions includeworking with individuals and groups within ourchurch family, as well as working with and assist-ing individuals and groups outside our church mem-bership. In order for Sunrise to be successful in allof our missions, commitment of financial support,of time and of talent has been very important.

As we end our “summer vacations” andbegin our “fall activities”, it continues to be im-portant for all of us to remain committed to finan-cially supporting the missions of Sunrise. In addi-tion, we recognize that the commitment of time andtalent are also important components of successful-ly supporting Sunrise missions. Let’s finish theyear with a level of stewardship which is second tonone other!

FYI: one of the fall activities will be the

Stewardship Drive scheduled for October. In Sep-

tember and October, watch for “Saints Alive! Liv-

ing Generously” as we share plans for future suc-

cesses within the missions of Sunrise Presbyterian
