INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 1Note: Measurements and instructions are given as follows: Mushroom Design (Sage Design)

• Wash in hot water with no fabric softener. Dry on high heat. Iron. Cut the following:

• Canvas 11” x 22” (13” x 22”)• Basket Lining 11” x 22” (13” x 22”)• Fusible Woven 11” x 22” (13” x 22”)

STEP 2• Mark center of design on canvas 5” (6”) from the top and 11” from the side.

STEP 3• Hoop StabilStick TearAway paper side up.

Score and remove paper to expose the tacky surface. Use center markings and template or method of choice to place the canvas on the hooped stabilizer.

• Place the hoop on the machine.



INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 4• Select Design for stitch out Mushrooms

82022–23 (Sage 82022–07). Follow the thread chart to embroider the design on the background fabric. Remove the hoop from the machine when the design is complete.

STEP 5• Remove fabric from the hoop. Remove

stabilizer per manufacturer’s directions. Press embroidery side down using an OESD Press Cloth or OESD Ironing Board Cover.

STEP 6• Apply the Fusible Woven 11” x 22” (13” x 22”)

to the wrong side of the canvas matchingtop edges and side edges. The fusible wovenwill help protect the design and support thebasket side walls when complete.



INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 7• Make two tubes, one canvas and one lining

fabric, by stitching the short sides of eachof the rectangles together using a ½” seam.Press the seam allowance open.

STEP 8• Fold the pail in half with the seam on one

side and place a pin opposite the fold. Matchpin to seam with sides out on each side. Pinin place. Repeat for lining.

STEP 9• Stitch across the bottom of using ½” seam

allowance. Clip the seam open at the endscarefully up to, but not through, the seam.Repeat for lining.



INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 10• Make triangles with the corner edges by

aligning the side folds to the bottom seam.Measure and mark lines where the trianglemeasures 3″ (5 ¼”). There will be 4 trianglescreated; 2 on the pail and 2 on the lining.

STEP 11• Sew across the 4 triangles.

STEP 12• Trim the 4 corner edges to ¼” seam allowance.



INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 13• Turn the pail lining right side out and insert

into the exterior so that the right sides aretogether.

• Match center back seams and pin as needed.

STEP 14• Sew a ½” seam allowance leaving a 3”

opening for turning.• Turn right side out through the 3” opening.

STEP 15• Position the lining inside the bucket and

press.• Whip stitch or use method of choice to close

the 3” opening.• Top stitch around the top edge to keep the

edge from rolling.

STEP 16• Turn down top edge to create a cuff, fill, and

enjoy.

Few things are more comforting in cold weather than a roaring, wood burning fire. The not so comforting task is hauling wood to the fire place. This firewood totewill simplify the task while keeping the bark and twigs in place along the way. Simple to make and easy to store, the tote is completely washable and can be made to match your home décor. Not just for winter, this tote would also be handy for transporting kindling to the outdoor fire pit. The uncomplicated designs in Heart at Home (#82022) are the perfect complement to the decorate this simple and practical project.

• 2/3 yd of 54” – 60” wide Canvas or Duck Cloth• 3 yds of 1 ½” wide Belting or Strapping• Organ 80/12 Sharp Embroidery Needle• Rotary Cutter and Ruler• Fabric Marking Pen/Pencil • Pins• OESD Press Cloth or OESD Ironing Board Cover (Optional)• Thread to match the Canvas or Duck Cloth• Optional Comfort Handle: 1 foot of ¼" to ½" cotton clothesline rope

INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 1• Pre-shrink the fabric by washing in warm

water. Dry. Press to remove wrinkles. Cut the canvas to 22” x 38”.

STEP 2• Mark Center of Design 7” from the top and

11” from the side

STEP 3• Hoop StabilStick TearAway paper side up.

Score and remove paper to expose the tacky surface. Use center markings and template or method of choice to place the canvas on the hooped stabilizer. Place the hoop on the machine.



INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 4• Load design #82022–24 into the machine.

Due to the weight and size of the fabric, it is a good idea to use the machine basting function to further secure the fabric to the stabilizer. Baste. Stitch the design. Remove the hoop from the machine when the design is complete.

STEP 5• Remove fabric from the Hoop. Remove

any basting stitches. Remove stabilizer per manufacturer’s directions. Press embroidery side down using a pressing cloth or OESD Ironing Board Cover.

STEP 6• Cut a piece of Fusible Woven 13” x 22.” Apply

the Fusible Woven to the wrong side of the canvas matching top edges and side edges. The fusible woven will help protect the design area when carrying the firewood.



INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 7• Turn under ½” and press on all edges. Turn

under again and press to enclose the raw edges. Remove excess material in corners to reduce bulk. Top stitch using needle position or guides on the presser foot to sew the hem down. Sew as close to the inner edge as possible.

STEP 8• Carefully use a flame to melt the ends of

the belting or strapping to prevent it from unraveling. Fold the belting in half and mark the center fold with a straight pin.

STEP 9• Lay the embroidered fabric out flat, right

side up. Mark 3 ¼” from the side on each long side. Fold the embroidered fabric in half matching the short sides to find the center; finger press or pin to mark on each side.



INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 10• Starting at the center fold, position the

strapping along the mark at the edge toward the top. Then run it down the opposite side to the center fold on the fabric. Place the fold of the belting on the fold of the fabric and pin in place. Make sure handle is not twisted. Repeat to bring the end of the belting to the starting point.

STEP 11• Sew the belting in place along the edges and

pivot as needed to sew across the top and bottom edges of the carrier body. Repeat for the second side of the strap. Zigzag stitch over the butted ends of the belting.

STEP 12Optional: Comfort Handles • Mark the centers of each handle area.• Mark 4" from the center on both sides of

each handle.• Center a 6" piece of rope on the inside of

each handle.• Fold the handle strap area in half to enclose

the rope in the belting.• Sew along the edge of the straps for the 8"

span and across the ends of the folded area to enclose the rope.
