PARENTS TELL US
“My son and I had such a fun time.
He loved the unusual toys and all of the
attention. I also thought the research
was really interesting.”“This commitment is a simple
way to contribute or to help
others and at the same time
is a fun outing for my children.”“As I sit and watch her play
with the students, I can really see
what she is able to understand.”“If every parent helped a little, the
researchers would be able to help us
build better education and treatment
programs for our children.”CHILD

SWHAT’S THIS STUDY ALL ABOUT?
What do infants and young children know? How do they learn? What do they think?
To answer these questions, we need to be able to exploreboth typical and atypical development. We need your help todo so. Please consider signing up to participate in our studies.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING A VISIT?
You and your child first play with a member of our team in acomfortable home-like setting. Next your child participates ina brief study in which they play with toys, look at pictures ormovies, and/or listen to speech. Although we observe yourchild during this period, there are never any right or wrongresponses.
HOW LONG WILL THE STUDY TAKE?
Studies usually last between 10-45 minutes. However, weschedule longer visits to ensure that there is plenty of time foryour child to play and become comfortable with the settingand for us to answer any questions you might have.
HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?
Nothing!
Parking is free. To thank you for participating, we will also giveyour child a small gift.
WILL I STAY WITH MY CHILD?
OF COURSE!In most cases, yes. Your child can either sit on your lap or in achair in front of you. But parents don’t have to be present.Sometimes we do studies with infants and children at medical, educational or other community centers, after describing ourprocedures to a parent or guardian and obtaining their con-sent.
WHY SHOULD I SIGN UP?
First, each visit is designed to be fun! Second, you will behelping us learn about the typical and atypical developmentof infants and young children. We hope that our growingknowledge will contribute to improving early education andintervention programs for children who are experiencing adelay or disorder of development.
