Ed is on vacation, so your editor is helping out.

The Great Chefs of the North-west started before I returned from my marathon. So, here I am the only one not dressed for the 50’s. That’s okay because we all had a great time.

Remember, Toys for Tots at the Harris’ Christmas brunch. Accord-ing to several members, they would rather have a monetary donation this year. So, if you wish to donate, let Der know and send him a check to be forwarded to Toys for Tots. If you make the check out to Toys for Tots and send to Der, you will still get the tax deduction.

The slate that was nominated for 2013 includes Duane Niemi as president, Jim Stott as vice president, Darleen Rohwein as Secretary and Der Roupe as treasurer. If you would like to run for an office, please let me know as soon as possible. We will need your name before the December meeting at Harris’.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and look forward to seeing you at Harris’ on the 16th.

never know!

The setting, The Dock Street Garage, lends itself to 50’s dress and some of the group came in period garb from poodle skirt to a convincing outfit from “Grease” to a more sedate American Bandstand look. The music from the juke box

was playing all evening, but no one was seen do-ing the jitterbug. But who were those ladies “twisting the night away?”

Mostly we just enjoyed each other’s compa-ny, chatting through the late afternoon and evening, eating way too much good food, and commenting that those who weren’t able to make it missed a really fun time!

Although Dave Demory came without his gal friend, he was able to snuggle up to a pretty blonde. Some of the pictures couldn’t be pub-lished because this is a family newsletter.

Dave Demory brought friends, Joyce and Bill Toren, a delightful couple we hope to see more

of. Some of us urged Dave to set up another poker run for a 2013 activity. Although no com-mitment was made, he seemed to be considering the notion. After some ‘intense’ pressure, he

Page 4: 81 CTCI D GREAT CHEFS, GREAT FOOD! - Puget Sound …pugetsoundearlybirds.org/Downloads_PDF/PSEB_MM_DEC_12.pdf · THE PSEB CHRISTMAS BRUNCH! 11:30 AM — DECEMBER 16 TH (Continued

did end up volunteering. So, we’ll be off search-

ing for the winning poker hand while we get buzzed on Seattle’s drug of choice, caffeine. Thank you Dave!

Speaking of Dave, he had some words of wis-dom for the evening meal suggesting that his plan for the meal was to achieve “Eloquent Suf-ficiency,” instead of “Elephant’s Capacity.” Words to live by, perhaps?

Ed Johnson called a brief business meeting to order. The first item on the agenda was to present Bob Callard with the CTCI Gold Medal

Award in the annual CTCI newsletter contest for our own Motor Mouth.

The meeting continued with a request for suggestions for next year’s activities. Carol

Weiler asked if the group might be interested in a February Wine and Chocolate run (see Secre-tary’s Notes). Contact Duane Niemi with your ideas for 2013 activities or come to the January meeting, which is being held at The Cedars in In-dianola this year, with your suggestions.

The meeting was adjourned for our group

photo including everyone, thanks to Minty and Ben Carlson, young friends of the Johnsons, who stopped by just after we finished our din-ner to enjoy their own meal, thanks to the abun-dance of food.

And lastly, a big thank you to Ed and Tanya for hosting this event. It’s a lot of work to set up and take down the event, and we deeply appreciate your gener-osity. The Dock Street Garage just lends itself to real-ly fun, casual events. It’s a very special place!

TWAS THE NIGHT OF THANKSGIVING,

BUT I JUST COULDN'T SLEEP.

I TRIED COUNTING BACKWARDS,

I TRIED COUNTING SHEEP.

THE LEFTOVERS BECKONED -

THE DARK MEAT AND WHITE,

BUT I FOUGHT THE TEMPTATION

WITH ALL OF MY MIGHT.

TOSSING AND TURNING WITH ANTICIPATION,

THE THOUGHT OF A SNACK BECAME INFATUATION.

SO, I RACED TO THE KITCHEN, FLUNG OPEN THE DOOR,

AND GAZED AT THE FRIDGE, FULL OF GOODIES GALORE.

GOBBLED UP TURKEY AND BUTTERED POTATOES,

PICKLES AND CARROTS, BEANS AND TOMATOES.

I FELT MYSELF SWELLING SO PLUMP AND SO ROUND,

'TIL ALL OF A SUDDEN, I ROSE OFF THE GROUND.

I CRASHED THROUGH THE CEILING, FLOATING INTO THE SKY,

WITH A MOUTHFUL OF PUDDING AND A HANDFUL OF PIE.

BUT, I MANAGED TO YELL AS I SOARED PAST THE TREES....

HAPPY EATING TO ALL - PASS THE CRANBERRIES, PLEASE.

MAY YOUR STUFFING BE TASTY,

MAY YOUR TURKEY BE PLUMP.

MAY YOUR POTATOES 'N GRAVY HAVE NARY A LUMP.

MAY YOUR YAMS BE DELICIOUS.

MAY YOUR PIES TAKE THE PRIZE,

MAY YOUR THANKSGIVING DINNER STAY OFF OF YOUR THIGHS!!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL

Hemmings Classic Car® commemorates its 100th issue (January 2013) by listing the top American collector cars ever made. Their cri-teria was:

Most popular models among both enthusi-asts and collectors

Each car was a production car, not a proto-type

Price did not enter into the equation because a high price tag doesn’t mean it’s collectible

Each car had to include the following attrib-utes: Collectability, Desirability, Hallmark Status, Distinctive Styling, and Popularity.

Listed with the 1955 Thunderbird, are the Ford Crown Victoria Skyliner, Chevy Bel Air and the Chrysler 300C.

Again in 1956 is the Chevy Bel Air and the Ford Crown Victoria Skyliner and the Conti-nental Mark 11. Hemmings commented that rarely do the same cars (the 1955 and 1956 Thun-

derbirds) attract different buyers. Purists prefer the basic ‘55 while others go for the ‘dolled up model’. In 1957, again the Chevy Bel Air, the Chrysler 300C and Ford Fairlane Skyliner re-tractable hardtop, the Pontiac Bonneville Con-

vertible (only 630 were made, one for each deal-er according to Pontiac Motor Division) and the Cadillac Eldorado Brougham were also included.

TTOPOP 100 A100 AMERICANMERICAN CCOLLECTOROLLECTOR CCARSARS

Smokey Mountain Classic Thunderbird Club have issued a CHALLENGE to CTCI chapters that we exchange newsletters to see which chapter has the highest percentage of classic T-Birds of different official colors. Refer to the March /April `11 Early Bird article by Willy Busch & Dave

Tulowitzky in Norway [ pp.9-11 ] titled “T-Bird Colors”. Your T-Bird will not be counted if you are not a member of CTCI. NO, this is not an official CTCI sponsored event and there are NO prizes just BRAGGING RIGHTS ! But it is pretty simple to "compete".

If your car is painted the original color as indicated on the data plate and you’re CTCI mem-ber, send your editor your year and color. Remember it’s the percentage, not the number of cars!

At the Great Chefs, Carol Weiler proposed a February Event that they would host should there be enough interest. She has pro-posed the Red Wine & Chocolate Tour . It is the weekend of Feb 11-12. The event would be similar to an event last year, except it would include Chocolate and only red wine. Although there is a tasting fee at each winery of $5.00, you can purchase a ticket for $30.00 for a sampling at all six wineries. The ticket price also in-cludes a commemorative wine glass.

Carol would like know how much interest there is before the “Planning Meeting”. Please contact Carol and let her know ‘Yea” or “Nay” at (360) 452-3096 or email [email protected]. Carol thanks you in advance.

Technical Stuff Technical Stuff —— Cigarette LighterCigarette Lighter

Many of the original cigarette lighters cease to work af-ter a number of years. Before you replace your non-working lighter, check for the safety circuit breaker on the back which can be reset. If your lighter doesn't work, look at the back of the socket. The circuit breaker has a small hole in the back. Push a small nail or wire into this hole until you hear the breaker reset with a snap. It will then be as good as new. Replacement sockets were supplied with a thermally activated fuse, and, unfortunately, these can't be reset.

In case any club member will be in the big city (Seattle) over the holidays, take a nostalgic trip through late ’50s and early ’60s musical style when the Marvelous Winter Wonderettes–Betty Jean, Cindy Lou, Missy and Suzy–are asked to entertain at the Holiday Party for Harper’s Hardware (Arts West, California Ave SW).

While the girls decorate the hardware store, turning it into a win-ter wonderland, Mr. Harper, dressed as Santa Claus, goes missing, and… the employees’ holiday bonus envelopes may bring surprises.

“The perfect Christmas revue! Crackles with energy and joy!” (LA Weekly). This show is appropriate for all ages. Absolutely a great show. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gU-o93eJBaE.
