Time: 9-9.40am
Learning Area: Circle III
Learning Objective: Understand the concept of tangents to a circle
Learning Outcome: A student is able to:
identify tangents to a circle
make inference that the tangent to a circle is a straight line perpendicular to theradius that passes through the contact point
construct the tangent to a circle passing through a point on the circumference of the
circle and outside the circle.
determine the properties related to two tangents to a circle from a given point
outside the circle
solve problems involving tangents to a circle
Vocabulary: circle, tangent to a circle, circumference, perpendicular, radius
Prior Knowledge and Skills: Students know and understand the concept of circle
Scientific Skills: Observing, comparing, and communicating.
Thinking Skills: Attributing, comparing and contrasting, making conclusion, relating.
Scientific Attitudes and Noble Values: Appreciating the contribution of science and
technology, having critical and analytical thinking, thinking rationallyTeaching Activities:
Discussion on the homework that is given in the previous lesson.
Discussion on the concepts of tangents to a circle
Evaluate students understanding by asking some questions to the students.
Give exercise to students as homework.

Date: 21 July 2009 (Tuesday) Class: 4S2
Time: 11.15am-12.40pm
Learning Area: Circle III
Learning Objective: Understand & use the properties of angle between tangent and
chord to solve problems
Learning Outcome: A student is able to:
identify the angle in the alternate segment which is subtended by the chord through
the contact point of the tangent
verify the relationship between the angle formed by the tangent and the chord with
the angle in the alternate segment which is subtended by the chord
perform calculations involving the angle in alternate segment
solve problems involving tangent to a circle and angle in alternate segment
Vocabulary: chords, alternate segment, major sector, subtended
