    Bank of India (BOI)

    BOI is perhaps the fastest growing public sector bank in India. Its operating profit and net profit in FY08 grew

    53.81 per cent and 8.!0 per cent "#o#"$ respecti%el".

    For the last nine &uarters$ including the &uarter ended 'epte(ber )008 *+) FY0!,$ its net profit grew at 50

    per cent plus "#o#"$ which indicates its sustained growth. Because of its strong presence in the industrialised

    states of -aharashtra and u/arat$ BOI has gi%en ad%ances to (ore producti%e sectors than its public

    sector peers.

    It has reduced its dependenc" on low#"ielding treasur" inco(e and has focused on interest inco(e and

    inco(e fro( fees. Its gross non#perfor(ing assets ha%e gone down fro( 3.) per cent in FY0 to 1.8 per

    cent in FY08.

    O%erseas operations contribute around )0 per cent of its business. he o%erseas branches help BOI raise

    deposits at rates lower than the do(estic rates. It has so(e e2posure to deri%ati%es instru(ents o%erseas$but all of the( ha%e highl"#rated Indian co(panies as underl"ing.

    Bharti Airtel

    Bharti irtel is riding high on the o%erall growth of the teleco((unication sector in India. -obile penetration

    in India is still around ) per cent$ which lea%es an enor(ous opportunit" for growth. In this growing and

    co(petiti%e (arket$ Bharti has been on top$ in ter(s of subscriber base since -a" )00.

    It has (aintained both "#o#" net sales and net profit growth at around 40 per cent in the last nine &uarters.

    he (argins ha%e declined due to stiff co(petition$ but the %olu(e growth fro( the untapped rural (arket

    co(pensates that.

    It has outsourced its non#core operations to focus on brand building and increasing subscriber base. In

    anuar" )008$ it hi%ed off its infrastructure business into a new subsidiar"$ Bharti Infratel$ which will share

    the capital e2penditure burden with other teleco( pla"ers.

    production techni&ues and a"ur%edic principles.

    Its brands such as Boro 7lus$ a%ratna Oil and Fast 9elief are leaders in their respecti%e categories. Its

    recentl" launched brand$ Fair : ;andso(e$ created an altogether new (arket.

    In the last eight "ears$ its net sales and net profit registered 1! per cent and )3 per cent

    India with an aggressi%e branding effort and greater retail push.
