From the Principal
Dear Parents and Caregivers, As you are all aware, the last fortnight has been an extremely difficult time for the staff and students of the school. I would like to extend our sincere thanks to all members of the school community that have supported us during this very sad time. The condolence book will be in the office until Wednesday, 13 November. Room 9 Assembly: Last Friday, Mrs Bain ’s Year 1/2 class entertained us with a song that was all about checking in on people to ensure that they ”R OK”. This is a really important message and the children did a tremendous job with their item! Thank you: I would like to thank those parents who have let us know that their children will not be returning to the school in 2020. This information allows us to plan more accurately for the coming year, or where vacancies occur, offer these positions to parents who have children on “waiting lists”. The school and wider community appreciate your consideration. Good luck and Best Wishes: Mrs Rafferty ’s last day will be next Friday, as she is leaving us to take maternity leave. I am sure you join me in wishing her and her husband lots of love, best wishes and joy with their newborn. Mrs Rafferty’s teaching position in Room 8 will be taken on by Mrs Tracey Thompson until the end of the year. Kindergarten Orientation 2020: Congratulations and well done to Miss Gabriel, Ms Bailey and Mrs Bruins for conducting their first orientation session for our 2020 Kindergarten parents. A huge amount of organisation goes in to these sessions and we thank our staff for once again putting on a great presentation. We currently have some places available for Kindergarten in 2020. If you have not yet enrolled or know someone who needs to, please contact the school office on 9234 7800 or pop in and pick up an application form. Thieves and Vandals: Over the last two weeks our school has been vandalised and had numerous new plants broken and items stolen. I cannot stress enough how important it is to PLEASE call School Watch 1800 177 777 or the Police 131 444, if you see people loitering on school grounds after hours. Big Day Out 2: Last Friday, our Year 6 students had their second Big Day Out which involved a movie and a session of Laser Tag. We were so please with the great feedback we received about the students wonderful behaviour on the day. Well done Year 6’s, you have made us proud! Student Leaders: Today our school leaders travelled to Cockburn Ice Arena for their annual reward excursion. It was wonderful to see the perseverance of those children who had never skated before and the way that those who could skate, helped other students out. Well done everyone!

BACKPACK DRIVE
We are currently collecting donations of essential personal items for children for the Parkerville Children and Youth Care. Each class will be combining these items in a backpack to create a care package for children of a similar age. The idea behind filling these backpacks is that a welcome pack will be given to each child upon entering care so they may have something to call their own. For hygiene purposes, all items must be new. Please see the list of items for donation located in your child’s classroom and write your name on the item you would like to donate. Items must be given to your child’s classroom teacher by Friday, 22
November 2019.
A representative from Parkerville Children and Youth Care will be present at the assembly on Friday, 29
November to
receive our donation on behalf of our dear friend, colleague and member of our school community.

CHAPLAIN’S CHAT—Difficult Times
As you would be aware, in recent weeks our school community has been rocked by the unexpected death of Nora O’Donoghue – a well-loved and respected Education Assistant at CHPS. We all miss her greatly. Difficult times like these stretch us. They not only test us, but they also prompt us to reflect on life. Kind of like an opportunity to take a step back from our hectic lives to ponder the really important things. If you are anything like me, then sometimes you find yourself getting carried away by the ‘annoying little things’ and forget to focus on the ‘really important things’. The most important thing is to love. To love and be loved is the essence of humanity and the basis of faith. In times of great difficulty and loss, may we hold tight to each other in love and remember fondly the love we shared with those we have lost. Love well, my friends.
