Last Wednesday, some students received the Sacrament of First Reconciliation.

This Sacrament provides us with the opportunity to say sorry for our sins, receive

forgiveness and build a closer relationship with God. We say congratulations to:

To Father Tai, the parents, Miss Laura Kennedy, Mrs Tarsha Mitchell and Miss

Stohney Cox we also express our gratitude for your work in preparing and

guiding the students, the facilitation of the program and for the organisation that

went into making the day so very special for the students.

On behalf of the St Mary’s School Community, I would also like to say thank you

to the Northern Agri Group (NAG) and all its members for their recent generous

donation to the St Mary’s School P&F. NAG has donated $3 000 towards the

2018 Year 5/6 Camp. We are extremely appreciative of these funds, which will

assist in reducing the amount required to be fundraised. Thank you, NAG!

SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS TERM TWO The next School Board Meeting will be held on:

SCHOOL FEES Term Two school fees are due by Friday 23 June. If you are having difficulties paying, please contact our Principal, Melissa

Marquis to confidentially discuss the matter.

NAIDOC WEEK This year, NAIDOC Week is for scheduled Sunday 2 July to Sunday 9 July. As these dates fall during the school holidays, St

Mary’s School had scheduled our celebrations for Week Ten, Monday 26 June to Friday 30 June. However, we have received an

invitation to join in with some local community events scheduled for Term Three, with the final dates yet to be finalised. Please be

advised that NAIDOC Week celebrations for St Mary’s School will be held in Term Three. Once all the dates and events have

been finalised, we will advise the school community.

P&F FUNDRAISER - NORTHAMPTON COMMUNITY MARKETS BBQ STALL As per the note sent home on 8 May, the P&F are having a fundraiser at Saturday’s Northampton Community Markets, using the

BBQ to cook Bacon and Egg Burgers, and Sausage Sizzles. If you are able to assist, we would welcome any extra pairs of hands.

Please note that we do not have to cater for either the NCVISSA Winter or Summer Carnivals this year, just the NCVISSA Cross

Country Carnival.

YEAR 1/2 FAMILY MASS The Year 1/2 Class has a Family Mass this Saturday, 10 June, at 6.00pm in the St Mary’s Church. Whilst it is a Year 1/2 Family

Mass, all members of the school community are invited to share in the Eucharist.

COMMUNIO WEEK Communio Week has come and gone for another year. Over the course of the week, we dressed up, wore free dress, watched the

webcast, created, coloured and prayed for all things Communio. Our fundraising efforts resulted in $128.50 being raised for an

initiative close to Bishop Justin’s heart. Thank you to all members of the school community for your prayers, assistance and

support.

BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

On Tuesday 13 June, students from Years Three to Six will represent St Mary’s School at a Basketball Tournament to be held at

the Activewest Stadium on Eighth Street in Geraldton. Please complete the travel permission form attached to this newsletter,

returning to the School Office by Friday 9 June. Miss Laura Kennedy, Mrs Tarsha Mitchell and Mrs Melissa Marquis will be

attending and supervising the students.

Please note the following student requirements:

Students to bring sufficient water for the day

Students will not have access to the Canteen

NCVISSA WINTER CARNIVAL On Friday 16 June, students from Years Three to Six will represent St Mary’s School at the NCVISSA Winter Carnival in the

sports of netball and football. Please find the travel permission form attached to this newsletter, returning to the School Office by

Friday 9 June. Miss Laura Kennedy, Miss Stohney Cox and Mrs Melissa Marquis will be attending and supervising the students.

Please note the following student requirements:

NAGLE CATHOLIC COLLEGE SCHOOL PRODUCTION – THE ADDAMS FAMILY MUSICAL Tickets are on sale to the public for The Addams Family Musical to be held at the Queens Park Theatre, Geraldton. Show times

are Thursday 10 August, Friday 11 August and Saturday 12 August at 7.00pm and a Matinee Performance on Saturday 12 August

commencing at 11.00am. Please ring the QPT for bookings on 9956 6662.

EPISCOPAL ORDINATION OF BISHOP-ELECT MICHAEL – JUNE 28 Over the past 2 weeks, I have received many messages of prayers and support as I prepare to become the 9th Bishop of Geraldton. I

am most grateful and thankful for your kindness and offers of help over these next few weeks.

Some details on the ordination to be held at 5.00pm, Wednesday 28 June:

Archbishop Costelloe will be the Principal Ordaining Bishop with other Bishops present. Many Priests, Religious Sisters and

Brothers will be joining the celebration along with my Mother, family, cousins, friends, parishioners, school children and

representatives from around the Diocese. A lot of planning has happened very quickly and I am most grateful for all the work that

has been done.

The Nagle College Gymnasium will be the venue for the ordination with a capacity of around 1200. Many invitations have been

sent out in connection with the Diocese, the wider church and community including my time in Army Chaplaincy. Once the

invitations have received, we will be able to work out how many seats are left. I would like all parishioners to have the opportunity

to participate in a significant moment of faith in our Diocese of Geraldton.

My hope is on the weekend of 10/11 June, the Diocese will be able to invite everyone to collect a ticket to the Mass from the

Diocesan Office to ensure we do not exceed safety requirements in the College Gymnasium. My hope is we will still have 400 seats

available to everyone. If we used the Cathedral, we could fit in only 650 people. More details will follow over the next few weeks.

Your continued prayers and thoughts will be valued by myself as we continue to pray for Bishop Justin in his last few weeks of his

time in Geraldton.

Reconciliation Merit Certificate Recipients

MERIT CERTIFICATE RECIPIENTS

Congratulations to the Merit Certificate recipients for Term Two, Week Six Yr K/PP Lola Maver For her self confidence in her writing ability and her determination to challenge herself daily, resulting in some amazing achievements this term. Lola has been working hard to build up a bank of sight words that she uses regularly in daily reading and writing. It is also great to see Lola using leadership qualities to assist the children in our classroom. Thanks for being terrific, Lola. Olivia Triscari For the way she participates in all classroom activities and plays collaboratively with other children. Olivia displays excellent behaviour and manners at all times, and listens to and follows instructions carefully. She is continually showing improvement in her ability to hear sounds in her writing. Yr 1/2 Malia Williams For taking the time to think about what you are writing. Over the last week, you have shown lots of enthusiasm when writing your information report about an Arctic Fox. Thank you for putting in a lot of thought and detail into your Animal Research Project. Malia, I can see that you are loving being a part of Literacy Pro and with great results. Marvellous work, Malia! Torah Simpson For being an enthusiastic learner, always interested in everything we do in the class. You always contribute fantastic ideas in class discussions. Torah, you begin each activity, without assistance, and if you need help you always ask. You have worked extremely well to learn your rainbow facts to ten, challenging others so you can move up the ladder. Keep working hard for the rest of this term! Wonderful work, Torah! Yr 3/4 Digby Williams For your active listening skills and the feedback you give your peers during Readers’ Theatre and our News topics. Digby, you display the active listening behaviours of looking at the speaker, sitting still and asking questions. As a result, you have given timely and appropriate feedback to your peers on their performances or asked insightful questions about the speakers’ topics. This is a great skill you possess. Magnificent, Digby! Lara Mincherton For your work throughout our Writing topic of Persuasion. Lara, you have taken in everything we have learnt on writing persuasive texts and used it successfully in your writing piece on ‘Which is the most important subject at school, Maths or English?’ You followed the correct structure and included three different language features of opinion. I am very impressed with how you went back to the Success Criteria and changed your introduction to include all points. Great work, Lara! Millie Gerreyn For the work you have done in Maths this term. Millie, you have taken to mapping and directions with ease. You have shared your knowledge by helping out your peers with map scales and conversions, which is to be commended. Millie, you are always ready to learn and set a great example for your peers. Superb, Millie! Yr 5/6 Eden Dawson For continuing to contribute to class discussions, particularly, within the area of Reading. You answer questions posed by the teacher, demonstrating a sound knowledge of the different techniques used by the author to promote a certain message. You are able to support your answers with examples and make connections between different texts. Keep up the great work, Eden! Jyo Booker For the way you present your arguments within the area of Writing. Your arguments consist of factual evidence and display creativity. You have demonstrated a strong understanding of anecdotal writing and you can explain how this technique can affect the reader. Jyo, you are continuing to make use of descriptive language within your writing, making it interesting to read. Keep up the great work, Jyo. PARISH NEWS The Most Holy Trinity – Year A God did not wreck vengeance on the Israelites in the wilderness when they began to worship a golden calf. Rather, God came among them in tenderness and compassion, forgave their sin and restored the covenant. This God became incarnate in Jesus and dwells among us in the Spirit. As we marvel at the unconditional love of God we exclaim: Glory and praise forever! Morning Tea is being held this morning, after Mass, in the Nagle Centre. All welcome. Parish Council meeting will be held on Friday, June 16th at 5pm in the Nagle Centre. EPISCOPAL ORDINATION: Those who wish to attend the Episcopal Ordination of the Bishop Elect Fr Michael Morrissey should obtain tickets from the Diocesan office next week beginning from Monday 12th June. In order to ensure the safety requirement of the Nagle Gymnasium, the diocesan office needs to know the number of people attending the ceremony. Therefore, if anyone wishes to attend the Ordination, please ring the diocesan office on 9921 3221 and book your ticket as early as possible. Caritas Australia is committed to speaking and acting on the issue of climate justice as we know from our partner communities that climate change is compounding poverty, undermining livelihoods and increasing the frequency and ferocity of extreme weather events. The profound “call to action” signalled by Laudato si’ provides additional impetus. Caritas Australia - in coalition with Micah Australia and other faith groups - is coordinating the largest multi-electorate climate change petition in Australia’s history, to send a strong message to our politicians that people of faith want stronger, urgent climate action. We invite you to sign the petition which is located at the back of the church. Our Sick; Pray for Maud Brown, Betty Thompson, Gloria Simpson, Cliff Dyer, Jim Thompson, Norma Murray, Ron Johnstone, Sue Gravranish, Hazel Bunter, Ron Smith, and all the residents of Brookview. Prayer for Rain: God of compassion, we wait and watch for your gift of rain to water the soil and make the barren land come alive again. We wait and watch for the gift of salvation to free us all from hatred, greed and fear so that we may live again as people of faith, hope and love. We make this prayer in the name of our Saviour who comes to be with us. Amen
