The 1989 Class Set of the Nigerian Law School boasts of an array of distinguished achievers in the legal profession. Considering that most of them are below 50 years of age, it is highly commendable, that many have excelled exceedingly in their chosen areas of expertise. From only 250 class members profiled, the class has 8 Judges including a Justice of the Court of Appeal, 8 academic doctors and professors, 6 SANs, one pioneer expert in Air and Space Law, 2 in the National Assembly, 4 Attorneys General, 2 globally recognised civil society advocates. This is a clear demonstration that the 89 class set is well represented in the key areas of social engagement and legal development. From these positions, Class 89 members make robust contributions to national growth and development. The plans to establish a vibrant and viable Class 89 Alumni Association has been ongoing among our classmates for quite sometime, since our call to Bar. However, this noble idea did not materialise for various reasons, until a few of our memebers decided this year to take it upon themselves to kick start the process. With the approach of our 25 th Anniversary in 2014, the need to constitute an Association for the purpose of rallying together to plan and implement programmes and activities for the benefit of members in particular and the legal profession in general, became imperative. The task of reaching out to members dispersed across Nigeria (and around the world) made the entire project of an Alumni Association quite daunting. However, a timely fallback on Information and Communications Technology platforms brought over 250 members together very quickly, and since then, very useful discussions have been going on. We are presently at the verge of establishing a network of branches with branch coordinators and officers, as well as a national office under the charge of national officers. As noted earlier, our class set boasts of numerous outstanding achievers in various arms of the legal profession and beyond. Since our coming together few months ago, we have been very delighted to discover how individual members of the class have made enormous contributions to the growth and development of our society. It follows, therefore, that working collectively as an Alumni Association, we stand a good chance to make greater impact in varied areas. In this class profile, we have endeavoured to mention some of our classmates who are not only adding value to society in different areas, but are active participants in the Alumni Association. We have also provided some pictures, despite space constraints, including old pictures of law school days to give a “before and after” ambiance. We certainly commend the authorities of the Nigerian Law School for organising this 50 th Anniversary event. Our class will continue to explore ways and means by which we can collaborate with other Class Sets to provide the needed support to the Nigerian Law School, as it expands in size, capacity and responsibility.
