The Championships was inaugurated in 2014 as a “Grand Finals” concept to feature and showcase the very best of Australian racing as

the jewel in the crown of Sydney’s Autumn Carnival.

2017 will witness the fourth year of this exciting initiative, launched by Racing NSW in partnership with The Australian Turf Club and supported by the Government of NSW.

Held on the first and second Saturday of April each year, The Championships twelve races will be hotly contested to determine champion status over different age groups and distances. Glittering emerald encrusted trophies, designed by acclaimed Sydney jeweller Cerrone will be awarded to the winning owner, trainer and jockey of each race.

With a total of $20.2 million prizemoney on offer, the stage is set for two days of exciting and highly competitive racing. The very best horses in Australia will compete against some of the finest international contestants, at what has quickly

become a feature occasion in Sydney’s social and sporting calendar.

Royal Randwick, one of Australia’s prestigious and most vibrant racing venues, is a fitting host. Visitors and racing enthusiasts from around the country and overseas will witness world class racing, and enjoy a dazzling array of fashion and award winning hospitality at this grand occasion.

International interest and participation will be enhanced by another significant thoroughbred industry event, the Australian Easter Yearling Sale which is held nearby at Newmarket Sydney, on the 4, 5 & 6 April.

Sydney, one of the world’s most beautiful cities will provide a breathtaking backdrop, a wealth of stunning sights, beaches to explore, arts and entertainment to attend, and gourmet dining experiences to enjoy.

We look forward to welcoming you to another memorable experience at The Championships.

ROYAL RANDWICK

Royal Randwick is the historic home of thoroughbred racing in Sydney. Established in 1860, and known to locals as “Headquarters”,

the recent $170 million redevelopment of the venue has created modern amenities featuring a luxury five level grandstand, with an outdoor tiered “Theatre of the Horse” amphitheatre.

The grandstand takes full advantage of its elevated position, offering prime trackside views, and an exquisite backdrop featuring the Centennial Parklands and the city skyline beyond.

The superior technology and multipurpose nature of the grandstand ensures all racegoers enjoy an enhanced experience complete with the largest outdoor screen in

the Southern Hemisphere, free Wi-Fi and a myriad of other innovations.

Located in the Eastern suburbs and just five kilometres from the heart of Sydney’s CBD, Royal Randwick is easily accessed by car and public transport. Its close proximity to the popular beaches of Bondi and Coogee, and to both domestic and international airports makes it an ideal location for interstate and international visitors.

The Royal Randwick course proper is the largest race-track in NSW. Royal Randwick features a back straight from the 1600m mark, sweeping bends and a slight uphill gradient at the top of the home straight known as ‘the rise’.

TRAVEL ALLOWANCES

International travel allowances for horses travelling to race in The Championships from outside of Australia and New Zealand will be assessed on a

case by case basis.

If an allowance is provided, it will be provided on an ‘all in’ basis, and will be paid directly to the nominated participants.

The connections of the horse will be responsible for the payment of all costs incurred direct, including shipping, stabling, personal flights, accommodation, transportation and general expenditure and subsistence.

The Championships will meet and provide all costs incurred to run the designated Quarantine and Isolation Centre.

In general, travel allowances will only be granted for horses with a rating of 110+ that are bound for Australia to specifically compete in The Championships. Allowances are not available for horses that are being transferred from an overseas destination to race under an Australian based trainer.

The amount offered and conditions surrounding any allowances will be assessed based on The Championship(s) race being targeted, the rating of the horse, the likely cost of travel, and the profile of the horse.

The Championships reserves the right to assess each application individually, based on its merit. It is at the sole discretion of The Championships to assess whether to offer a travel allowance, and to what level.

ACCOMMODATION The Championships will assist the connections of all confirmed participants with bookings for local accommodation and transport.

RACE DAY HOSPITALITYThe Championships will provide premium race day hospitality at Royal Randwick and Rosehill Gardens, to bona fide connections with a horse competing at The Championships and in any lead up races. This will include local transport to and from the racecourse.

VISASAll visitors to Australia must have a valid visa to travel to and enter Australia. Participants will need to lodge visa applications at least 6-8 weeks before their intended date of travel to Australia (or two weeks for online visa applications). A letter of invitation to The Championships 2016 can be supplied to participants to assist with the visa process.

Note: New Zealand passport holders do not usually need to lodge a visa application prior to their departure.
