8 9 Whitehorse Australia Day Concert and Fireworks JANUARY 2016 JANUARY 2016 HEADLINE ARTISTS The concert is guaranteed to be a fantastic night out with tribute show The Killer Queen Experience headlining with everyone’s favourite Queen songs. They will be supported by Geisha front man Chris Doheny’s Australian Made music tribute, the energetic and fun band Like This and the out of this world family music act The Rrrrrockets. Plus, the Young Australian Broadway Chorus is back to perform classic Aussie hits, including a special version of the national anthem. Musical icon Wendy Stapleton is returning to host the celebration that will conclude with an awe-inspiring fireworks finale. The evening begins with free rides from 5pm. With biographies that read like the history of Aussie rock and a flexible line up of members, Australian Made guarantees a great live experience every time from some of Australia's best players. THE RRRRROCKETS Do you know any kids between the ages of three and nine? Of course you do! Is it time they got hip to some red hot rockabilly, skankin’ ska, swingin’ big band and toe tappin’ four on the floor rock ‘n’ roll? Of course it is! Well get ready for blastoff, The Rrrrrockets are in town. Featuring a seven- piece band with horn section and dancers playing up-tempo awesomeness, what more could a kid ask for? YOUNG AUSTRALIAN BROADWAY CHORUS The Young Australian Broadway Chorus will be joining us to perform a special version of the national anthem and a number of classic Aussie hits in a true celebration of Australia Day. Founded in 1984, the Young Australian Broadway Chorus offer drama, song and dance classes for young people 5-18 years, with the aim of developing young people through the performing arts. LIKE THIS After wowing audiences at last year’s Swing Pop Boom! event, Like This is returning to Whitehorse to present four- part harmonies and live instrumentation including smooth saxophone, drums, keyboard and guitar. Like This is a highly dynamic group whose range covers smokey jazz to upbeat favourites. FIREWORKS FINALE A ten minute fireworks finale will take place from 9.50pm. The breathtaking show will provide festival attendees with great viewing opportunities from the festival site. Please note that for safety reasons should a total fire ban day be declared or there are high winds, the fireworks display will not take place. There is no access inside Walker Park for the entire event. Wendy made her first professional appearance at the age of nine. At 16 she became a professional vocalist and in 1979 signed with Mushroom Records and formed Wendy and the Rocketts, touring Australia and overseas. Her impressive career boasts theatre performances, festivals and screen roles both in Australia and internationally. KILLER QUEEN EXPERIENCE Killer Queen pays homage to Britain's regal rock quartet Queen in a fully-costumed show featuring superb musicianship coupled with accurate instruments and a cast resembling the original members of Queen - you will be forgiven for thinking you're in the presence of the real band. Since 2010, the band has performed interstate and overseas to crowds of many thousands in places such as Norway, Singapore, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. Killer Queen have received recognition within the entertainment industry for both their musicality as well as their startling resemblances to the original line-up. Celebrate everything that’s great about Australia with your family, friends and neighbours at Whitehorse’s Australia Day concert and fireworks display. RIDES, REFRESHMENTS AND GIVEAWAYS Free rides will operate from 5pm-9pm. A wide variety of food stalls will operate from 5pm-10pm, and visitors are encouraged to purchase refreshments or a novelty glow stick to help local charities and community service organisations with their fundraising efforts. Event sponsors Deakin University, Philip Webb, The Leader and the Nine Network will be sharing the fun with a number of exciting activities and giveaways for guests. GETTING THERE Parking is always limited and guests are encouraged to take public transport, cycle or walk. Please be mindful of changed traffic conditions after the event. Free, secure bike parking is available at the festival site, enter via the main car park and follow the signs. Make sure you bring lights and safety gear for cycling home in the dark. ACCESSIBILITY Accessible parking, an accessible viewing area and the Marveloo accessible toilet facility with hoist and change table will be available.
