The Thing That Made Me How And

Who I Am

Pop music is a term that originally derives from an abbreviation of ¨popular¨. Pop was originated in its modern form in the 1950´s in the United

States deriving from Rock and Roll. As a genre pop music is very eclectic. Since the

mid-1950s pop music has usually been identified as the music and the musician styles that are accessible to the widest audience. This means the music that sells the most copies, draws the largest concert audiences, and is played most often on the radio. After Bill Haley's ¨Rock Around the Clock¨ hit #1 on music charts in 1955 the most popular music became the records influenced by rock ´n roll instead of the songs and light standards that had dominated TV´s Your Hit Parade weekly countdown show. Since 1955 the music that appeals to the widest

audience, or pop music, has been dominated by sounds that are still rooted in basic elements of Rock ´n Roll.

Pop composers have been adding lot of instruments to their music. In modern days the instruments and equipment that are in pop music are: guitar, bass, piano, drums, organs, synthesizers, digital audio workshop, brass, percussion, vocals, keyboards, strings and auto tune. Pop singers used to wear leather clothes but now pop singers use lots of different types of shirts and different types of pants. These characteristics are different in every band because of what they like and how they want their fans to know about them and their style.

I like pop because it is unique and lots of people like it. When I listen to pop music I feel like I'm in another planet

because of the awesome rhythm and the astonishing singers and instrument

Techno

Techno is a fast or slow rhythm. A group of bored people decided to put all kind of

sounds together, techno was then invented. For this kind of music people used electric

drum and different instruments such as sets called "Gear" including electronic pianos

and funny looking instruments. Some of these bands such as Tobú are made with

Australian Gears who most people don't know. Tobu for instance was created for a

school dance. Normally there are dancers, but as usual people can come in and start

dancing just for fun. People can play this music on stages around the world, or there

house. I personally like this kind of music because it reminds me of wonderful moments

that I have lived in the past with my family and friends.

A classic Rock n` Roll

song:

Highway to hell by AC/DC

Season ticket on a one way ride

Askin' nothin'

Leave me be

Takin' everythin' in my stride

Don't need reason

Don't need rhyme

Ain't nothin' that I'd rather do

Goin' down

Party time

My friends are gonna be there

too

I'm on the highway to hell

On the highway to hell

Highway to hell

I'm on the highway to hell

No stop signs

Speed limit

Nobody's gonna slow me down

Like a wheel

Gonna spin it

Nobody's gonna mess me

around

Hey satan

Payin' my dues

Playin' in a rockin' band

Hey mumma

Look at me

I'm on the way to the promised

land

I'm on the highway to hell

Highway to hell

I'm on the highway to hell

Highway to hell

Don't stop me

I'm on the highway to hell

On the highway to hell

Highway to hell

I'm on the highway to hell

(Highway to hell) I'm on the

highway to hell

(Highway to hell) highway to hell

(Highway to hell) highway to hell

(Highway to hell)

And I'm goin' down

All the way

I'm on the highway to hell

Metaphors: Highway to hell,

highway expressing the

travelling of a rock and roll

as being a “hell”.

To take something in your

stride: to take setbacks

easily and calmly.

Rock and roll is a mixture of different types of music. It originated

from blues and jazz in the 1920´s. A disk jockey named Alan

Freed began playing the unknown type of music under the name

of rock and roll. The song of Bill Haley called “Rock around the

clock” is considered the first rock and roll song with a grand

commercial success. In the 1940´s, more records were added to

the list.

The new music style became more famous, rapidly. Until the

1960´s rock and roll was mainly played in the U.S, with only a few

fans outside of America. In the mid-1960s British band named

The Beatles invaded the U.S, and became one of the top selling

records in an instant. This is known as the British invasion.

Some of the most popular bands that played this kind of music

are: The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Queen,

Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, Guns n´ Roses, AC/DC and Van Halen.

Mostly, the instruments that are used are: electric guitar, bass

guitar, drums and keyboard. Some songs, for example Led

Zeppelin's "Kashmir", incorporate synthesizers, acoustic guitars,

and violins or electric violins.

AC/DC concert at River Plate

Famous rock and roll bands organize big-scale concerts. These

concerts mostly take place at a stadium or in a park. The concerts

usually include a big screen and several visual effects. Thousands

of people visit these concerts to enjoy the music. The music is

mostly made for young audience. However, as the bands get older,

their older audience still enjoys the music and visits their

concerts.

I enjoy the dynamics of the music and I like the creative mix of all

the instruments. The five bands that I enjoy the most are: The

Queen, The Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi, AC/DC and Guns n` Roses.

These bands are famous all around the world. Many rock and roll

bands sing in English, because it rhymes well and because it

wasn't popular in other countries then the U.S. at the time. Even

though I am a big fan of Rock and Roll, I did not enjoy it when I

was young. I began listening to it as I grew older.

Rock and Roll

RollThe genre Rock and was originated in the United

States in the early 1940's and late 1950's. This genre was

created as a mixture of blues, jump blues, jazz, gospel music,

Western swing, and country music. The

basic instruments used in rock are:

electric guitar, double bass, drums and

instrumentsbass guitar. Other optional

are: the piano, saxophone.

Many Rock and Roll bands are spread

all over the world. The most famous

bands are: The Rolling Stones, The

Beatles, The Who, Guns N’ Roses, Red

ChiliHot Peppers, Kiss, and AC/DC. Rock

usesmusicians are crazy loud and many use drugs. Each band a

different costume. The musicians in Guns N' Roses use large

hats. Kiss paints themselves and uses clothes with sharp metal

in the shoulders. Those are just examples, but there are many

other different types of costumes. One thing in common is

that in the past they used to have long hair.

its Since Rock and Roll is an old type of music, most of

audience are adults, but now Rock is being introduced to

younger people. Those bands play in important concerts and

events.

The reason I like this type of music, is because my dad

listen to it very often so I am used to it. But also because

when I listen to rock I feel relaxed and pleasured. My whole

Page 10: 7thgrademusicmag

family likes rock and roll, so I think that when we listen to it

together we get closer as a family. Music is something very

important in my life.

I was aching to be somewhere near

Your voice was all I heard

I was shaking from a storm in me

Haunted by the specters that we had to see

Yeah, I wanted to be the melody 4 Lines

Above the noise, above the hurt

Another Type of Jazz

You may know Frank Sinatra or Louis Armstrong, well they are jazz singers, I

know its awkward but you can!

Vocal Jazz is a sub-genre of Jazz, it was created in the 20th Century being more

specific in 1920 in The United States of America.

Francis Albert Sinatra known as Frank Sinatra

was born in December 12th 1915 in Hoboken

New Jersey, he was a actor an a singer. Frank

Sinatra is very important for the history of Jazz

because he was the one of the most remarkable

artists of this music genre.

Also Duke Ellington was very important for Jazz.

He was born in May 24th 1974 in Washington

D.C A very big difference between Duke

Ellington and Frank Sinatra is that Frank was a

singer and Duke use to play the piano, but both

are Jazz artists.

When vocal jazz appeared for the first time on stage it was a improvisation of

the real jazz. Then people recognized this as another music genre. Years later

vocal jazz groups started to appear and in that moment is when vocal jazz was

considered a important music genre.

Louis Armstrong was a pop singer and a jazz trumpeter. He was born the 4th of

August 1901. He’s most popular song is “What a Wonderful World” written by

George David Weiss and played by Louis. They wrote this song to tell their

feeling about the world and also to give a little of happiness to that person that

its always feeling that the world is a bad place to be.

The Song: Louis Armstrong What a Wonderful World

I see trees of green, red roses too.

I see them bloom, for me and you.

And I think to myself, what a wonderful world.

I see skies of blue,

And clouds of white. The bright blessed day, The dark sacred night. And I think to myself,

What a wonderful world.

The colors of the rainbow, So pretty in the sky. Are also on the faces, Of people going by,

I see friends shaking hands. Saying, "How do you do?"

They're really saying, "I love you".

I hear babies cry,

I watch them grow, They'll learn much more,

Than I'll ever know. And I think to myself,

What a wonderful world.

Page 17: 7thgrademusicmag

Yes, I think to myself, What a wonderful world.
