Three Major Sections
• Fiction• Non-fiction• Biography
Fiction• Fiction books are
located at the back of the library.
• They are arranged alphabetically by the author’s last name.
Fiction Call Numbers
• Call numbers help you locate a book on the shelf. It is like an address.
Call Numbers
Example of a Fiction Call Number
FICDAH
“FIC” lets you know this is a fiction book.
First three letters of the author’s last name.
Non-fiction• Non-fiction or
factual books are located at the front of the library.
• These books are arranged by their Dewey Decimal number.

Indicates a nonfiction book

Biography• Biographies are located in the non-
fiction section.• These are books about famous
people.• They are arranged alphabetically
by the last name of the famous person.

Card Catalog• You may use any of the computers
in the library to access the card catalog.
• Remember you can search by author, title, subject, or keyword.
Internet Access• You may only access the Internet
with a teacher’s permission.• If you are caught on the Internet
without permission, you will be sent immediately to the principal’s office.
Magazines• Magazines may be read in the
library any time your class visits.• You may also check out past
copies of magazines for one week.
Remember• Work quietly to respect others.• When you have checked out your
book, please have a seat and read quietly.
• No food or drink in the library without permission.
Book Check Out• All books must be checked out at
the desk before exiting the library.• You may keep a book out for two
weeks.• If you have an overdue book, you
will not be allowed to check out until it is returned.
