Bharati Vidyapeeth, the parent body of Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University was established on 10th May, 1964 by Hon’ble Dr. Patangrao Kadam with the primary / sole objective of bringing about intellectual awakening and all round development of the people of our country through education.

Bharati Vidyapeeth is now a leading educational institution in the country, which has created a history, by establishing within a short span of 46 years or so, 171 educational institutions imparting education from the pre-primary stage to Ph. D. stage, and disciplines such as Medicine, Dentistry, Ayurved, Homoeopathy, Nursing, Arts, Science, Commerce, Engineering, Pharmacy, Management, Social Sciences, Law, Environmental Science, Architecture, Hotel Management & Catering Technology, Physical Education, Computer Science, Library Science, Information Technology, Biotechnology and Agriculture and Performing Arts.

These educational institutions, which have achieved an acclaimed academic excellence, cater to the educational needs of thousands of students coming from different parts of India and abroad. Our teaching faculty includes highly qualified, experienced, dedicated and student - caring teachers. These educational institutions are located at various places viz. Pune, Navi Mumbai, Kolhapur, Solapur, Sangli, Karad, Panchagani, Jawhar and New Delhi.The spectacular success achieved by Bharati Vidyapeeth is mainly a creation of unusual foresight, exceptionally dynamic leadership and able guidance of the founder Hon’ble Dr. Patangrao Kadam.

It has been our constant endeavor to impart high quality education and training to our students. It is therefore, no wonder that our institutions have become nationally known for their academic merit. In recognition of the academic excellence achieved by these institutions and potential for development, which they posses, the Department of Human Resource Development, Government of India and the University Grants Commission of India have accorded the status of university to the 32 constituent units of Bharati Vidyapeeth. Besides these 171 educational institutions. Bharati Vidyapeeth has also been successfully running a Co-operative Bank, Co-operative Consumer Stores, a Co-operative Poultry, a Co-operative Sugar Factory, Charitable Hospitals and Medical Research Center. It has brought cooperation and education together and made the provision in its constitution that 20% of the profit will be dedicated for the purpose of education.

Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University, Pune commenced its functioning w.e.f. 26th April 1996.The passage of time has not only earned BVDU a reputation amongst the top universities in India, but has also established its name globally. As a crowning glory to all this Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University received an “A” grade accreditation by National Assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC) an autonomous body of UGC. Additionally, institutions like college of Engineering, Pune Poona College of Pharmacy, Pune and Institute of Management & Research, New Delhi are also accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) The Constituent units of the University are located across eight campuses in India. All the campuses have excellent infrastructure and are equipped with all necessary facilities to facilitate and impart high quality education. These campuses are located at Pune, New Delhi, Navi Mumbai, Sangli, Kolhapur, Karad and Solapur. To abide by its commitment of delivering excellent and quality education the university offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate and postgraduate programme. Presently BVDU offers a total of 234 courses in different subjects at various levels. Out of this 44 programme are at undergraduate level and 104 are of post graduate level programme and 37 are diploma programme. Additionally it also offers M.Phil programme in 3 subjects and Ph.D programme in 34 subjects. The distance learning wing offers 16courses, conveying a wide range of disciplines. The university has planned consciously by giving equal emphasis to basic and applied research involving inter disciplinary approach. The university has exclusively established three research institutes namely Interactive Research School of Health Affairs (IRSHA), Research & Development Center in Pharmaceutical Sciences & Applied Chemistry and Yashwantrao Chavan Institute of Social Science studies & Research. In 2009 - 2010, 600 research scholars from different knowledge domains for 50 projects received a total grants of Rs.7,94,62,705 from various project/ research funding agencies.

BVDU College of Engineering was established in l983. It is one of the oldest and largest Engineering Colleges in the State of Maharashtra and it celebrated its silver jubilee year in 2008-09. Over the last 26 years, the College has made all-round progress and is now acclaimed as one of the best Engineering Colleges in this part of the country.Since its inception till July 2000 when it became a constituent unit of Bharati Vidyapeeth University, the College was affiliated on a permanent basis to University of Pune. The courses which are taught in our College of Engineering are as given below. All the degree programmes involve applications of computers in their respective areasThe admissions to the courses are given through an Entrance Test conducted by the Bharati Vidyapeeth University.The College has its own spacious, well-designed building located in beautiful Dhankawadi campus Area wise the college building is 252402 Sq feet It has sufficient space to accommodate lecture halls, laboratories, seminar halls, Library etc. The classrooms measure 660 Sq.feet each. Over the years, the College has created excellent infra structural facilities in terms of well equipped laboratories and workshops. Our laboratories are housed in spacious halls and they have the latest state-of-the-art equipment We would like to make a special mention of our computer laboratories that are exceptionally good and well equipped with the latest machines and various types of software and application development toolsLibrary of the College is located in a spacious building, contain separate Stacking room, Computer Centre, Periodical Section, Audio Visual Room, Reference Section and three Reading Halls. The library has an area of 23920Sq.feet. Reading Halls are open for sixteen hours a day. The College has also membership of internationally reputed organizations such as British Council Library, Automotive Research Association of India, National Chemical Laboratory, Indian Institute of Technology, Pawai, Institute of Armament Technology, Grinagar etc The Library subscribes to 91 international journals and 66 national journals More than 50129 books are on the Stack at present.Computer Center is established in the Library with 754 computers of latest configuration The leased line of one MBPS is also made available to the students. The center is used by the students for l8 hours per day under the guidance of specially appointed computer system administrators. The BVU College of Engineering is one of the prestigious institutions in Pune which attracts leading and prestigious companies for campus interviews as its Training and Placement Cell has continuous interaction with the industries. Keeping in view the future manpower requirements in the area of Computer Technology and Information Technology, the University has established a CENTRE FOR POSTGRADUATE STUDIES AND RESEARCH IN COMPUTER ENGINEERING in the College The major activities of this centre include teaching and training the students in subjects related to Computer Engineering. The College has established a “Research Forum”, which undertakes activities promoting research and research culture in the College

LaboratoriesThe states of art laboratories form the major part of the infrastructure. Every department has the required laboratories with well equipped equipments..This helps the students to perform the practicals in good , conducive environment thereby increasing their aptitude towards practical training, research and experimentation.

LIBRARY Books reflect the real worth of any institution and hence BVUCOE is regarded as one of the leading colleges with good library infrastructure and massive collection of books, periodicals for staff and students. There is a separate library building admeasuring 26040.38 sq. ft. with basement and five floors. There are three separate reading rooms of capacity 480 students Total number of books purchased till date are 50129. These include latest editions of textbooks and reference books. Total number of journals and periodicals subscribed from are 152. The facilities for reprography, CDs and audiovisual tapes, scanning are also available. The central library also provides central computer facility with internet connection with 6 Mbps leased line. College also developed digital library with a 'Delnet' facility for the students and faculty. The library has tie ups / liaisons with leading libraries of Institutions such as IIT, Mumbai, NCL, Pune and ARAI, Pune etc. This provides additional access to the reading material to our students and faculties.Online Public Access Catalogue, reprography are other facilities available to the studentsIn addition to the central library, each department has departmental library with books donated by alumni and faculty.Digital library consisting of 83,69,299 books, 33,541 current periodicals, 20,235 catalogues of periodicals, 9,12,042 periodical articles, 5,000 CD-ROM, 748 Thesis and Dissertations, 44,304 Video Recordings and 1,613 Sound Recordings in e-form are available to facilitate and promote research. The college has obtained membership of DELNET for this purpose.

COLLABORTIONS

Being a leading institution , it is extremely important to be connected with Industries and academic institutions in India and abroad. After being part of Deemed University, BVUCOE has developed strong associations with national and multinational companies and other educational institutes.The college has signed l2 Memorandum of Understanding with various leading international academic and research institutions such as North Carolina A & T state university , Greensboro, USA . Actel Corporations,USA MOU with North Carolina A & T State University, USA was signed for Development of Faculty, Exchange of Faculty for P.G. Programmes, and Establishment of Centre for Composite Materials. Under this MoU one faculty membersDr.S.M.Shendokar has completed Ph.D and another one Prof Dawande has completed M.S. Further, one more is pursuing Ph.D. at North Carolina A & T State University. Principal Dr. A.R. Bhalerao has successfully completed two month training programme in 'Advanced Composite Materials Processing, Characterization and Modeling'BVUCOE has also signed MoU with industries such as Infosys, Wipro, TCS, Oracle (I) etc. These MOUs are for student enablement, Faculty development and training and for certified courses.

ISTE & GUEST VISITEDThe Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) was established in the College in the year 1991. The objective of the ISTE Chapter is to keep the faculty members of the College updated about the recent technologies. The Institute arranges lectures twice in one semester and invites eminent personalities from Industries and other Organizations to deliver lecture at our campus. The topics of the lectures are decided by the speakers. These topics are related to their work experience at their organization. ISTE STUDENT Chapter of Bharati Vidyapeeth University College of Engineering, Pune was established in the year of 2004.

Developed excellent liaison with all types of industries in last ten years. As a result of this 640 students of final year Engineering got in plant training in companies such as ONGC, BSNL, Kalani Forge, Reliance, Bajaj Auto Ltd,L &T,TCS, HP, Philips ,Tata Motars etcEvery Year approximately 100 studenta are getting projects from the industry.

SPORTS Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University College of Engineering is one of the leading college in University for active participation in sports and to great success in various competitions.We also provide facilities for indoor sports such as Badminton,Tabletennis,Swimming etc. and outdoor sports such as Kabaddi,Volleyball,Khokho,Basketball,Football,Handball,Softball etc.

ART CIRCLE

To give the platform for performing art and cultural activities Art Circle formed under which students can perform and participate in various competition all over India. Team of Art Circle has won the prizes at Bharati Youth Festival in Bajan,Folk dance,Group song,Garaware College in street play and Mine,Unmad IIM Bangalore in street play and Mime,Singhad Karandak in group singing and in Harmony at Y.C College ,Pune.

NInternational Conference on “Nano Technology – Materials and Composites for Frontier Applications” at Le Meridien, Pune, India

The International Conference on “Nano Technology-Materials and Composites for Frontier Applications” was organized by Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University jointly in association with North Carolina A&T State University, Greensboro, USA (NCAT), Tuskegee University, Alabama, USA (TU) and Centre for Materials for Electronics Technology (C-MET), Department of Information Technology, and Government of India.

Inauguration

The conference was inaugurated at the hands of the chief guest Hon' Shri.Prithviraj Chavan, former Minister for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, Govt. of India and now Chief Minister of Maharashtra. This conference was graced by Dr. Venkatesan Renugopalakrishnan, Professor, Harvard University, Boston, USA, and Dr.James Ryan, Director, Joint School of Nano Science and Nano Technology (JSNN), USA as Guest of Honors. The Chief Patron for the conference, Dr.Patangrao Kadam, Hon Chancellor, Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University presided over the inaugural function. The function also had the presence of patrons of the conference Dr. Shivajirao Kadam, Hon' Vice Chancellor, Bharati Vidyapeeth

NConference Proceedings

We are indeed extremely proud to start the conference proceedings with a video presentation of Noble Laureate Dr. Harry Kroto from USA. We had invited him for the conference and he had accepted our invitation. Unfortunately he had to cancel his personal visit at the last moment due to Visa problem. However he ensured to address us through a specially prepared video presentation. This is the first time in our university's history that a Noble Laureate addressed us. We are delighted over this achievement.

The conference was conducted through seven sessions viz. Nano Composites and Carbon Nano Tubes, Nano Materials - Particles and Structures, Nano Synthesis and Characterization, Nano-Bio and Chemical Applications, Nano Mechanical Systems and Energy, Nano Electronics / Devices and Nano Technology / Applications and two poster sessions.These sessions were chaired by eminent personalities such as Dr. K. U. Bhaskar Rao, Director, Defense Material and Stores Research and Development Establishment (DMSRDE), DRDO, Kanpur, Dr. Sulabha Kulkarni, Pro-VC, Vanasthali Deemed University, Jaipur, Dr. M. S. The valedictory function w a s a d d r e s s e d b y P r o f . He also emphasized the need for c o n d u c t i n g s u c h conferences every two years and also suggested the next one to be organized in USA. The Technological lighting of the traditional lamp by the dignitaries on the dais marked the beginning of a momentous occasion. The Release of Souvenir of the conference was carried out at the hand of the chief guest Hon' Shri .Prithviraj Chavan. Dr. James Ryan, Director, Joint School of Nano Science and Nano Technology (JSNN), USA released the CD containing the Proceedings of the conference.

Dr. Shivajirao Kadam, Dr. James Ryan and Dr. Venkatesan Renugopalakrishnan elaborated the importance of Nano Technology for the future developments in their speeches

The Chief Guest Hon' Shri .Prithviraj Chavan in his speech gave an insight of development happening in the field of nanotechnology at the government level. He also talked about the Indian economy growing in spite of global recession and how India can pull its resources for development in the field of science and technology. India has initiated steps for development of nanotechnology by creating 20 centre of excellence across the country and allocated substantial resources for this purpose. He informed about the well funded “Inspired” Scholarship programme by Dept. of Science and Technology for promoting profession in the field of pure science. Under this scholarship, top 1 percent of students passing state board examination will be supported financially till they attain the age of 32. He also appreciated the steps taken by Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University for creating the research ambience by organizing such conferences.

T h e A l u m i n i A s s o c i a t i o n w a s estabil ished in the year 2003. It was f o r m e d b y a n Execu t i ve Counc i l c o m p r i s i n g o f 2 5 members who meet every quarter in a year tp discuss and decide t h e f u t u r e d e v e l o p e m e n t o f association. The office b e a r e r s o f t h e association are also part of administration body.

T i l l d a t e w e h a v e organized six alumini meets, for which the response was good. Today the strength of alumini is 3200 and is increasing day by day.

SECOND

First Meet was organized on 30th Nov 2003. It was the joyous movement for Alumnis as the alumni association was started so that they can recall their collegememories, meet friends, teachers and share their experience with them. They we re a lso happy to hear about development of the college. President Dr. A. R. Bhalerao while addressing the alumni said that, with the

help of alumni, the college can have industry- inst i tute interaction which will help the students in their projects,training etc. On behalf of alumni Mr. Milind Patil assured that they will provide help and co-operation to the college and the s t u d e n t s i n p r a c t i c a l approaches.

Second Meet arranged on 2nd Oct 2004 for which Dr. Shailesh Deshpande was the chief guest Alumni of 1989 b a t c h ( D e p a rt m e nt P r o d u c t i o n Engineering), President of PresidentTechnologies, he has done Ph.Dfor U.S.A.on this occasion he said that I am happyto be chief guest in my own college as hetold that an alumni from Bharati Vidyapeeth can shine anywhere inworld because the mould or pattern in which casting is formed is dynamic and flexible for all the needs. More than 200 Alumni were present, Dr.A. R. Bhalerao Prof. R.W.Jawale, Prof. V. A. Bugade & Prof. J. S.Chitode all staff co-ordinator, H. O. D's and allfaculty members were present.

President Dr. A. R. Bhalerao guided alumni on giving the present status of the college and he also gave guidelinesto development the association.

Third Meet arranged on 2nd Oct 2005. In this meet it was decided that Alumni willcontribute for arranging seminars, guest lectures, practical demos which will help the students understand the practical approaches. President Dr. A. R. Bhalerao guided alumni to render consultations orprovide services to industries with the f i e l d o f t e c h n i c a l k n o w h o w , standardization, testing facilities and in such other fields related to engineering. He also persuaded them to publish and circulate books, papers, periodicals and circulars eit her t hrough print orelectronic media for the promotion or stimulation of engineering research atthe institute .Welcome was given by Secretary Prof. V. Fifth Meet was conducted on 1st Feb 2009 Sunday at the Harvest club in Pune. The welcome address was delivered by the Secretary Mr. S. S. Chavan. He gave the status of Alumni Association.

Mr. Krishnan Iyer, Guest of Honour gave a very emotional speech and said the credit of his achievements goes to the college. He appreciated the values and culture of the college. He narrated a story of old Professor and explained the moral of the story that God made coffee and not cups. Mr. Atul Goel, Cheif Guest refreshed his memories and said he owes part of his life to this institute. He talked about how to co-relate education and business. He also said that the college is not only for education but is also for forming peer association with each other for future. The chief guest contributed to the college by announcing that he will train 10 students of the college every year through his company. He also requested the association to conduct next meet in his resort Chouki-dhani.

A cultural programme was performed by Art Circle. Vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. S. D. Lembhe (Treasurer). The meet ended with a delicious dinner.

th nd6 Alumni meet was organized on 2 February 2010 at Choki Dhani.Cheif guest for meet was Mr.Unmesh Jagtap ,President Unpa Engineering alumni of mechanical engineering department of batch 1996 and Mr.Jitendra Raguvir,famous magian alumni of Production Engineering Department of batch 1998.

Meet start with visit to the choki dhani at 5.00p.m with large number of alumni ,staff and students.

Prof S.S.Chavan,Secretary of association welcomed all the alumni ,briefing about the development of the association and also announced the awards for academic excellence from years. Many alumni share their feelings ,plans in development of the association and institute and promised to come back to the institute when needed and also agree to share their experience in terms of the seminars, workshops and arranging industrial visits and trainings for the students. Mr.Unmesh Jagtap,guest feel very proud for been was guest in his own college and thanks for the college for been so kind to him in all-round development and multi skills in build in him.He announced to collaborate with institute for doing research activities in producing electricity using wind and solar energy. President Dr.A.R.Bhalearo was were proud to hear about the research activities of alumni aboard and their all-round performance. He also announced about events and activities of the college i.e international conference,Tech- fest ,collaboration with Tata-Motors for training more than 5000 workers etc.He welcomed all the suggestions from the alumni and promised to implement were ever possible.
