For kids entering 6th, 7th & 8th grades
In Cavaliers Careers Camp, kids can get a feel for careers they already have an interest in – or experience things they might not have even heard of before! The Healthcare Camp is a 1-week experience on four mornings. Business and Technology Camp offers five choices – each for an afternoon.
Enrollment information• Please check each course for meeting dates.• Health Camp check-in location is Room M111 – Enter through the Technology or Prairie doors. Business and Technology check-in location is Room M111.• All registrations must include the emergency medical information. • A fee will be assessed for any children left more than 10 min. after their class session has ended.• A full refund, minus a $3 processing fee, will be made for registrations canceled up to three days before the course start date. Refunds cannot be made for cancellations received the day before or on the class start date.

For every session, kids must be escorted and signed in and out of class by a parent or guardian.

Tuesday:Explore the Laboratory; draw “blood,” determine blood types, find sugar in “urine,” look at blood cells under a microscope, identify “bugs.
Medical Laboratory Technology
Meet The TeachersNancy Ozee: Knows interesting respiratory facts, like: Babies only breathe through their nose (except when crying) until around 3-4 months of age.
Kellee Hayes: Became a nurse at age 21. Has worked more than 27 years in hospitals.
Glenda Forneris: Knows her way around a microscope. Also, has “streaked” many times … to identify bacteria causing an infection (of course).

Respiratory Therapy
Tuesday:Check oxygen levels with the pulse oximeter, help a baby or adult (manikin) breathe using a resuscitation
bag, give a breathing “treatment,” do chest percussion.
Wednesday: Learn to ‘Wrap It Up’ like a pro, how to use back- boards, splinting and neck braces; take an ambulance tour.
Paramedic
Thursday: Heart Saver CPR, Working together in a multi-career simulation.Wrap-up: Graduation

Sheri Cagle: Leads and manages KCC’s Health Careers Division, which is dedicated to teaching those who care for and preserve human life.
Nicole Stotts: Gets excited by spontaneous neuromuscular recovery. She can also manage five or more pieces of equipment while gait training.
Sue Mosier: Has worked as a paramedic/firefighter for 36 years. Also teaches at KCC.
Jackie Boomsma: Paramedic who saves lives while driving fast and running red lights … in an ambulance. After years of safety training.
Darla Jepson: Can name all 206 bones in the adult human body.
Wednesday: Get moving and think like a physical therapist; Range of Motion,
how to use assistive devices, tips to staying healthy, how to make healthy food choices, wear an empathy suit.

Choose up to four daysJune 19-22 • 12:30-4:30 p.m. Each day features a different career area to explore. Attend up to four days. On Wednesday, there are two choices – pick one. Cost: $30 per day.Details: Monday-Wednesday drop off/pick up is in Room D121 (enter the doors marked Welcome Center). Thursday drop off/pick up is the lobby at the Manufacturing Center Building, 2580 S. Route 45/52, Kankakee.Gift: All participants receive a career camp drawstring bag.
Business & Technology Camp
Monday: Interview witnesses, conduct a crime scene search, collect evidence, and
apprehend the suspect. This hands-on police procedure class includes working
from inside a real police squad car.

Tuesday: Take a look at the structures, duties and services of county government. Invent and market a county others will want to visit, live and work. Meet a representative of county government for a first-hand view of making a difference.
Legal Eagles Study Government
Bridget Bertrand: Was an Illinois State Police Major before retiring in 2015. Loves collecting
the clues to solve crimes.
Kris Condon: Can name all current U.S. Supreme Court justices and has met Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr.

Thursday: Go to KCC’s Manufacturing building to learn the basics of stick and MIG welding. See how electrodes and power come together to join a variety of metals. Make your own souvenir. About 75 percent of Illinois land is dedicat-ed to farming. Explore careers, learn about
parts of a seed, and livestock! Complete hands-on activities in a greenhouse, climb
in a tractor, create edible compost, feed the fish in KCC’s aquaponics system, and more!
Jessica Reardanz-Friedericks: Once taught Junior Farmhand Camp during the summers at Bourbonnais Township Park District.
Now teaches future teachers.
Katelynn Ohrt: Her family farms in the area. During college, she traveled to North Africa to tour farms and agriculture businesses.
Mark Stevenson: Runs a welding business and teaches at KCC. He owns more than 12 welding helmets.
