From the Parochial Administrator’s Keyboard: “For in secret the holy children of the good were of-fering sacrifice and carried out with one mind the di-vine institution.” Our first reading today describes the institution of the Passover. The children of Israel, slaves in Egypt, are called on by Moses to turn to God and to offer the sacrifice of an unblemished lamb. All the other people of Egypt went about their daily busi-ness, unaware that God was about to act. And act God did! He marvelously brought the people out of slavery to pharaoh, taking them through the Red Sea to freedom. We are in the middle of three weekends of being challenged to support the missions: * Last week Fr. McCaffery challenged us to support the missions in his rousing homily. Thank you! * This week we have a collection for the Archdiocese’s Latin American Apostolate. For 60 years priests of the Archdiocese have served in La Paz Bolivia. Our St. Louis priests serve a parish of 60,000 Catholics! That is one hundred times the size of St. Ann. They rely totally on this collection for their support. *Next week, a missionary from CROSS Catholic Out-reach will be here. He will not take up a collection. He will invite you to consider how you can show mercy to our neighbors in the third world. We don’t have to give to any these worthy causes. We do have to understand that we are missionaries our-selves. The old Passover of the Jews was to save one people from slavery, the New Passover of Christ is to save all people from slavery to death and sin. The old Passover was a secret, the new Passover is to be pro-claimed to the ends of the Earth! People have many needs, but the deepest need of every heart is the love of God. People across the world, and in our neighborhoods and families walk around unaware of how much God loves them. Whether we give to the foreign missions or not, each of us, having been brought through the sea of baptism, are tasked with the mission to make sure God’s love and the freedom of the Children of God is no secret!

Join young adults from across the archdiocese for our Theology on Tap August gathering—a night of Q&A, drink specials, and great community. The event will be held at 7 pm, August 9 at Kirkwood Station Brew-ing Co. (105 E. Jefferson Ave Kirkwood, MO 63122). Our featured priests will be leading a question and answer session. Email [email protected] or call 314-792-7008 with questions or for more information.

Catholic Newman Center-Sunday Mass Time Change We are excited to announce that as of August 28th, our Sunday Student Mass time will be 6 pm (instead of last year’s 8:30 pm). We hope to gather a larger crowd for the student mass, and believe an earlier time is more accessible to many of UMSL’s commuter students and community. Please help us spread the word! All are wel-come! Each week, mass will be followed by Sunday Sup-per, a home-cooked meal for hopefully 25-30 students at the Newman Center. If you’d like to help sponsor or cook one of the Sunday Suppers, please email [email protected]. Thank you!

Help the environment & St. Ann School: RECYCLE your paper items, juice packs, and/or aluminum cans –dumpsters are on the parking lot!

Calling all Soup Makers: The Catholic Newman Center needs your help. Every Wednesday during the school year, UMSL students gather at the Newman Center to experience mass and the gift of belonging to a faith community. The first mass/soup is August 24.
