The rules for the examination of site soil also

are now briefly described in this Shastra, but in

this modern context which looks impossible

and impractical, as shown in these methods.

In Vaasthu Shastra the planning of villages, is of

eight types, they are:

1. Dandaka,

2. Sarvotabadra,

3. Nandya vartha,4. Padmaka,

5. Svatika,6. Prastara,

7. Karmuka and

8. Chaturmukha,

These are the eight kinds of villages defined

according to their shapes.

The smallest type of the Dandaka village is said

to be fit for the retired life Vaana-prastha.

The Sarvatobhadra village is fit for the

Brahmins and gods.

T e Nan yavarata vi age it or t e resi enceof gods and Brahmins.

The Padmaka village is fit for the Brahmins as

said by the ancients.

The Swastika is fit for the residence of kings.

The Karmukha village is fit for the vaisyas.

Chaturmukha thus described is fit for the

Shudras (the servant class)
