Council Highlights
Council Highlights
On October 22nd, we had our monthly
council meeting. We were joined by guest
Pastor Nord Swanstrom representing the Northern Illinois Synod. Pastor Swanstrom asked
the council what we did at Cross and crown that we were excited about. Our council replied
with the many opportunities we have to serve our community. Becca’s closet, reading at the
schools, Laundry Love and providing food for the pantries were among the many things we
said. We also ask Pastor Swanstrom how Cross and Crown could support the fund for future
leaders in the church.
Here are some of the other highlights from the meeting:
• Council agreed to begin the process of engaging with One Body Collaboratives’ online
resource ministry.
• Pledge forms were finalized for Stewardship.
• Chuck Hanson gave us an update on the new sign
proposals. Council agreed to begin a special appeal to raise funds for the new sign.
• November’s council meeting will be held on Sunday, November 18th at noon.
Stewardship Campaign: Holy Currencies
Thank you to everyone who spoke for the Stewardship campaign. It was great to hear
everyone’s perspectives on Holy Currencies.
Remember to fill out your pledge forms by the end of the month. Also complete your time and
talent survey so we can energize our resources!
The Stewardship committee thanks the congregation for their willingness to donate time,
energy and money towards our mission in CHRIST!

Social Concerns Committee – Projects & Cause of the
Month
Two Great Opportunities to Demonstrate Thankfulness - all
for Caritas
You can help Caritas celebrate the 44 years that they have been
serving the greater Beloit community. Earlier this year, a fundraiser
asked for donations of $44 to reach a goal of $44,000! And the faith
communities are still responding. The serious facts are that Caritas has served more than 4,700
neighbors per month, with almost 2,200 being children.
In the spirit of Thanksgiving, we are asking for a donation of $50 for Thanksgiving baskets.
Caritas is able to purchase food in bulk at reduced prices, so your dollar can go further. Any
amount is appreciated by indicating “Caritas” and the amount on your check or offering
envelope. Food donations in the barrels will continue to be delivered to the Rockton Pantry. As
further incentive and in appreciation, an anonymous donor has pledged to match the first $200
that is received. Social Concerns thanks you for giving generously.

2019 Offering Envelopes will be arriving next month. In an order to be
more efficient, we have renumbered envelopes.
So please note your envelope number most likely changed. If you have any
concerns regarding the renumbering, please contact the church office at 815-
623-6853.
Also, if you use Simply Giving, you will have a packet of envelopes available
that will include special offering envelopes.
Are you searching for
a special gift giving idea?
Now through November 11th you
will have the opportunity to
purchase books and enrich a
child's life.
Simply fill out the order form
provided and return to the church
office along with your payment. We
will submit the orders and have
them available to you for your gift
giving needs.

Thank you to
Jan Ethington
for hosting this
event and to all
those who
organized and
attended the
event.
The little ones are now settled in and enjoying their many experiences at Cross
and Crown Preschool. October has brought us visitors from Hoo Haven on the
10th and an optional field trip to the Apple Hut in keeping with our apple unit.
Twenty-five students participated in this October 12th event!
Mid-to-late October brings us happy smiles on Picture Day, October 18th. The
Halloween Party will be October 31st for the children and families. The Great Pumpkin has
surely been smiling upon our preschoolers in October!
We are continuing to work on assessments. Art projects include leaf shading, finger painting
and watercolors. Children are practicing name and letter recognition, writing and reading sight
words.
Show-n-Tell and Pajama Day are on November 1st to welcome a new month! The units for
November will be all about camping, being thankful for family, friends and God’s many
blessings! Thanksgiving break will be November 21st and 22nd.
Fundraising news includes two upcoming fundraisers: Backyard Grill and Bar in Roscoe on
October 25th from 5-8 p.m. Twenty percent of sales will go to our preschool. Then a fundraiser
at Culvers on November 19th from 5-8 p.m. Enjoy a night off from cooking and support our
Preschool.
The September Tupperware fundraiser brought in over $200! Thank you to all who purchased
some Tupperware. Thank you to Kathy Hull for overseeing this event!
Our wish list includes kinetic sand, dry erase markers and erasers, more Play-Doh, items for
our play and learning centers, picnic tables/benches for our playground and non-allergic items
to fill up our sensory table (talk to Becky Hendrickson or Mary Dempsey). We have received on
our door playhouse to go on the playground.
As always, we appreciate the caring support so many of you give to our mission and to our
preschoolers. We are so thankful and blessed! Come join us to help our students learn and
grow! Openings are available in the afternoon class! Happy Thanksgiving!
