Dolby Surround Encoder/Decoder Plug-in
The plug-in is the result of collaboration between Dolby Labs andSoundscape Digital Technology and licenses Dolbys DSP code, developed
for the Motorola 56301 DSP used in the mixtreme Mixer environment.The Dolby Surround Encoder/Decoder Plug-in which is available exclusively from Soundscape DigitalTechnologys International Distributors and Dealers includes a separate 4 channel to stereo encoderand a stereo to 4 channel decoder and includes elements for Surroundchannel strips and Surround Panners in the mixtreme mixer.Dolby Surround is a phase-matrix encode/decode process that makes itpossible for regular stereo program sources to carry four channels ofinformation. Originally developed as a sound-with-picture format, the
channels are configured with three across the front (Left, Center, Right) anda fourth (Surround) reproduced by speakers to the sides and rear of thelistening area.Because Dolby Surround soundtracks are specially encoded during productionand then decoded on playback, producers can control the placement andmovement of sounds in a way that creates a remarkably realistic listening experience. Since 1993 Soundscape Digital Technology has provided professional Digital Audio Workstations to the Music, Film and Broadcast markets for recording and editing. The

The mixtreme Audio Card provides a massive 16 audio channels of 24 bit digital input and output and has powerful 24 bit customisable digital mixing and real-time
optional audio effects plug-ins like Equalisation (EQ), Reverb, Dynamics control and Surround Sound Processing. With Multimedia drivers for Windows NT and Windows
95/98, mixtreme can be used with most
Video Capture Cards and a wide range Video
Editing systems.
The mixtreme card is inserted into a spare
PCI card slot in your PC and the mixing software is
quick and easy to install. Two external professional
Soundscape Audio Interfaces can be added,
providing up to 16 channels of Audio in and out
with high quality balanced XLR connectors.
Alternatively you can connect the two TDIF
connectors (Tascam Digital Interface - the standard
24 bit interface for the latest audio mixers and
recorders) directly to a digital console or Tascam
DA-88. There are other external converters
available for ADAT users, unbalanced audio
connections and fibre optic digital devices.
The Soundscape mixtreme 16 Channel PCI Card
mixtreme is friendly to the rest of your studio too. You
can hook up your VTR inputs and outputs, Timecode DAT,
NAGRA or Tascam DA88, using any number of Pre/Post sends
and place additional channel strips in the mixer to mix the
return signal. Every element in the mixer is a plug-in that you
can place exactly where required, which means that you can
record to disk with EQ, a compressor or other acoustic effect.
Recording a voiceover through mixtreme with dynamics
and EQ can help to give your productions a professional sound
quality that normally requires time in a top audio studio. You
can even use the mixtreme real-time effects to remove
hum and noise from badly recorded audio clips or to decode
audio recorded in M&S format into L/R stereo. All effects
settings and the entire mixer configuration can be saved and
loaded from a PC file, so you never need to lose that perfect

The mixtreme Advantage
mixtreme has a powerful on-board Motorola DSP (Digital Signal Processor)
instead of having to use the Pentium CPU in the PC for audio processing, so that it takes
almost no power from your video application. You get the benefit of separate digital
audio input/output channels for Surround Mixing, digital mixing and routing with total
recall, and real time effects, all running simultaneously with your video editing software.
External analogue or digital devices can be mixed with tracks from your video editing
software by configuring a mixer that fits with exactly what you need. You can have one

The fully configurable Soundscape V2 Mixer comes
bundled with the card and was originally designed for
Soundscapes award winning SSHDR1-Plus Digital
Audio Workstation. Released in 1993, this high end
Audio Post System is used today by thousands of top
sound designers and industry professionals in Music
Soundtrack Recording, Dialogue Replacement, Foley
and Dubbing.
Right now you can have a 24 bit, 16 in/out, 16 bus
virtual digital mixer at your fingertips running
simultaneously with your video editing software on the
same PC, with the additional advantage of optional
high-end DSP effects plug-ins from some of the worlds
leading names in audio. Effects like Surround
Encoding & Decoding, Compressors, Expanders,

The Equalisation (EQ) Plug-in allows the editor to select a range of frequencies
on an audio track i.e.Bass, Mid, Treble and boost them or reduce/cut them. For
example high frequency camera noise on the audio tracks can be dramatically
reduced or removed by selecting that range of high frequencies and cutting them.
You can change the audio bandwidth to make it sound like youre listening to the
radio or to simulate a telephone call, or create a rumbling bass on explosions or
car engines. This feature is standard in the software.
The Audio Toolboxis anoptional set of audio effects elements
and includes a Chorus/Flanger,
Digital Delay and a Dynamics
Processor with Gate, Expander,
Compressor and Limiter functions.
The Chorus/Flanger canproduce anything from a slight
thickening or phasing of a sound.
Flanging is at the extreme end of the
control range, with large pitch changes,
delay variations and amazing stereo
width and movement - great for Sound
Design, alien voices etc..
The Dynamics Processorconsists of four main real
time processors.
1. Noise Gate - Allows realtime gating of the signal to remove
any low-level background noise on
audio tracks and is useful for
dialogue editing or ducking
backgrounds.
2. Expander - This has similar operation to that of a noise gate, but has aratio setting which determines the slope of the cut-off. Instead of total silence
the level can smoothly increase to allow a gentle build into the new sound. This
can be used for higher levels of background noise removal, such as tape hiss or
Air Con noise etc.
3. Three Node Compressor - A compressor is very useful forproduction sound recorded on a sound stage. The Actors voices can be
compressed at a particular level, a door slamming in the background can have
another higher setting to prevent loud bangs etc. on the dialogue tracks.
4. Limiter - The Limiter makes sure that the audio signal never exceeds agiven level, useful for optimizing broadcast levels during lay-back to tape.
The DelayPlug-in which is includedin the Audio Toolbox, provides Long,
Medium or Short delays or fading echo
which sounds similar to the effect of
shouting in a cave or in the mountains.
