    Edition 01 Release - September 2004

    1.2 Scope

This user guide describes the commands and messages supported by Alcatel 7300 European SD/HD/UD ATM Subscriber Access Multiplexer (ASAM) system software (Release 4.6.x and higher). These commands and messages are used to set up, administer and maintain the system. The ASAM system software is based on a universal transaction language developed by Telcordia Technologies, Inc. (formerly Bellcore) and called Transaction Language Number 1 (TL1). The language is described in detail by various Telcordia documents. Both TL1 and the applicable Telcordia documents are subject to review and change with little or no notice. This manual describes the TL1-based commands and messages as implemented in the current version of the Alcatel ASAM product.

    2.1 Introduction

Access to the Operations System (OS) /Network Element (NE) system is protected by a logon security system. To log on, press the ENTER key on the terminal. The system prompts you for a user name, password, and Target Identifier (TID) . After a specified number of failed logon attempts, the system refuses further attempts. (You can provision the number of failed attempts and the period for which the system refuses further attempts.)

After you log on, the system monitors the interface for periods of inactivity. If the interface is inactive for too long, you are automatically logged off. (You can also provision this period.)

All the NEs have the same initial user name (SUPERUSER) and password (ANS#150). You should change the password as soon as possible, because the initial password is known to anyone who reads this manual. You can also change the user name or add additional user names. Use the ENT-SECU-USER command to enter a new user identification, password and authorization level. The system can handle one local logon session and up to five remote/OS sessions.

You can log on to the NE in two ways: by responding to logon prompts, or by entering a complete ACT-USER command.

The user name and password are validated by the system. The Help Menu is displayed (Figure 2-2).

Enter commands in any of the three supported modes (see Section 2.4, Entering Commands).

When you have finished entering commands, enter CANC-USER or LOGOFF to log off from the NE.

    2.4 Entering Commands

You can enter TL1 commands in three modes:

menu mode prompt mode command mode.

All three modes of command entry are equivalent, so you can choose the one that is easiest for you to use.

Menu ModeIn the menu mode, you select options from several menus and the system builds the command for you.

    Procedure

To use the menu mode, follow this procedure:

Type MENU and press Enter. The Command Menu is displayed (Figure 2-3). Select a command category (Maintenance, Provisioning, Security, or Test). A

Command Verb Menu is displayed (Figure 2-4). Select a command verb. If modifiers are required, you are prompted for them (Figure

2-5). Most commands have one or two modifiers following the verb. When you finish selecting modifiers, the system switches to prompt mode for the

entry of parameter values (see Prompt Mode).

Default values The default value is displayed in square brackets [like this]. The default is the value that is used if you press ENTER without typing anything. If no value is displayed in square brackets, the parameter does not have a default. This means that you must specify a value.

Example: < ENTER BAUD RATE (300,1200,2400,4800,9600,[1200]):In the example, pressing ENTER causes the system to use 1200 as the baud rate value.

Value ranges A range of values is displayed in parentheses, with the lowest and highest values separated by three dots.

Example: < ENTER MINUTES (0...59):In the example, you can enter any number from 0 to 59.

Optional entries An empty set of square brackets [ ] indicates that the parameter is optional. You can enter a value, or press ENTER without typing anything.

Example:< ENTER CORRELATION TAG (1...6 characters, [ ]):If you press ENTER without specifying a value, the result depends on the parameter or command. In the example, a zero is generated.

Command ModeThis mode is faster than the others, but you must know the syntax and parameter values of the entire TL1 command to use it. The command must be complete and free of syntax errors, or the system rejects it.

To use the command mode, type the complete command, including the semicolon (;) that ends the command. Pressing the semicolon key causes the command to be executed immediately. If you press the semicolon before you finish the command, the system switches to prompt mode.

Note: Entering successive queries for large ranges of system parameters may result in a Systems All Resources Busy message.

    3.1 Introduction

The TL1 comprises two main elements, syntax and semantics. Syntax defines the rules of punctuation by which particular symbols are used as delimiters and separators between information units in a command or message string. Semantics is the vocabulary of the language and comprises a definitive set of allowed words (i.e., verbs, parameter keywords, etc.). Collectively, semantics and syntax form a command to be entered or a message to be read.

    3.2 Commands

General InformationOperational functions performed on an NE are initiated by input commands. Input commands have the following general format:

    :[TID]:[AID]:[CTAG]:[GENERAL]

    [(:)*];

    Parameters

In general, parameters are values that clarify the function performed by a command. The syntax of the parameters must be correct to avoid system error responses. Parameters are classified as either staging parameters or data parameters.

Typically, staging parameter blocks are positional, i.e. position-defined. Data parameters, however, are position-defined or name-defined.

Upper-case and lower-case parameters - In this guide, parameters that must be entered exactly as shown are given in upper-case type. Parameters that are replaced by a value are given in lower-case type. Values that replace the lower-case parameters are defined or delimited in the text to allow you to select the correct value. The use of lower-case and upper-case type in a command string allows you to quickly identify the parameters that must be replaced. The value depends on the context and application of the command.

3 Transaction Language Semantics and Syntax

This identifies a command and has the following format:

    [-[-]]

where the indicates the type of action to be performed, and the two optional modifiers and identify the object of the verb or the scope of the command.

    Examples of first modifiers are:

    ENT-IPPORT:

    (enter-IP port)

The unit "IPPORT" is acted on by the verb "ENT"

    ED-SECU-CMD:

    (edit-security-command)

The particular view, "Security levels," defines what is being edited on a particular command.

The second modifier, when used, defines either the intended unit or function the action is to be performed on. Examples of second modifiers are:

    RTRV-ALM-EQPT:

(retrieve the alarms pertaining to equipment)

The unit "EQPT" is what the action is performed on.

    ALW-MSG-ALL:

(allow reporting of all autonomous messages)

The function "MSG-ALL" is what the action is performed on.
