Mark joined Witt/Kieffer in 1998 and is a senior vice president and shareholder in the firm’s Irvine, CA office. He brings clients two decades of experience in healthcare executive search. Mark has a depth of experience in recruiting senior leaders for hospitals, healthcare systems, academic medical centers, physician practices and managed care companies. He has helped clients identify and attract qualified executive leadership for key positions including CEOs, COOs, CFOs, CMOs, nursing services, human resources, legal officers and fundraising professionals.

As a member of the firm’s Western Region, Mark has demonstrated keen intuition in assessing executives’ fit with organizational cultures and needs. Bartley S. Asner, M.D.

Bart Asner, M.D. is the Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board of Directors of Monarch HealthCare, an IPA model medical group which he founded in 1994. Monarch is comprised of 2,300 physicians providing care to 178,000 Medi-Cal, commercial and senior managed care patients throughout Orange County, California, and is proud to have been designated a 2012 Pioneer Accountable Care Organization (ACO) by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Under the Pioneer ACO program, Monarch will provide care coordination services for 17,000 traditional Medicare patients. Dr. Asner is a past Chairman and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the California Association of Physician Groups (CAPG), California's largest professional organization of medical groups and IPAs, comprised of 150 member organizations providing services to 13 million Californians within the coordinated model of health care delivery. Dr. Asner is immediate past Chairman, and current member of the Board of Directors of the Integrated Healthcare Association (IHA), a statewide policy group that brings together the top decision makers from the major sectors of the health care industry. Dr. Asner holds a bachelor's degree in Biology from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York and is a graduate from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He completed his Internship and Residency in Pediatrics at Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. Board Certified in Pediatrics, Dr. Asner is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and of the American College of Physician Executives. Dr. Asner has successfully pursued his passion to create a model for the delivery of quality affordable health care to the patients of Orange County.

David Belson, Ph.D. David Belson, Ph.D. has helped dozens of hospitals and clinics improve their productivity. He applies his background of over 30 years as a professor in Industrial Engineering. He has developed classes on improving healthcare operations and written articles regarding Lean and other methods for radiology, surgery, emergency departments and other hospital functions. He has initiated research projects funded by the California HealthCare Foundation as well as the federal and California governments. He has held management positions with Ernst & Young, IBM and Universal Studios. He has taught at several European universities and was a Fulbright scholar. Current projects include Lean training for all the California Critical Access hospitals as well as projects for San Francisco General Hospital and Los Angeles County Department of Health Services. He has a BS Degree in Engineering from the University of Washington, an MS from UCLA and a PhD from USC.

Joel M. Bergenfeld, FACHE Joel M. Bergenfeld is Chief Hospital Executive Officer (CHEO) for Physicians for Healthy Hospitals (PHH). PHH is comprised of two acute care hospitals, Hemet Valley Medical Center and Menifee Valley Medical Center, and a chemical dependency program, Hemet Valley Recovery Center and Sage Retreat. Mr. Bergenfeld is a results-oriented executive who has delivered strong financial results and quality care during a career spanning more than 30 years. He has demonstrated strategic and visionary leadership including financial turnarounds, effective and efficient system operations, service quality, and customer satisfaction. He also has outstanding business development and marketing experience focused on building volume, revenue, annual growth and physician integration. He is currently President of a newly forming ACO in south Riverside County. Previously, Mr. Bergenfeld was Chief Executive Officer of Century City Doctors Hospital in Los Angeles, CA, where he led the $100 million dollar refurbishment of a 195 bed hospital, recruited and credentialed over 200 new medical staff members, created new centers of excellence for spine, total joint, pain management, and geriatric medicine, and was an early adopter of EMR. He has also served as Regional Senior Vice President and CEO for Tenet Healthcare, and CEO of Florida Medical Center, Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Mr. Bergenfeld received his master’s degree in Health Services Administration from California State University Northridge, and his bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). Mr. Bergenfeld is a former “South Florida Hospital Executive of the Year” and a ten-time recipient of the Tenet Healthcare Corporation “Circle of Excellence.” Currently, Mr. Bergenfeld serves as the Inland Area Representative to the 2012 Hospital Association of Southern California (HASC) Board of Directors.

Steven R. Blake, FHFMA, CPA

Steven Blake is the Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President, Finance for

Integrated Healthcare Holdings, Inc., a publically traded hospital management company. He

is a California Certified Public Accountant and a Fellow in HFMA.

Mr. Blake has over 25 years of experience in multi-hospital financial management including

extensive experience serving in financial roles with public companies. He previously served

as Regional Vice President of Finance for Tenet, a position he held for over 17 years. In this

position, Mr. Blake was responsible for the financial management of numerous Tenet assets

covering five western states (California, Arizona, Washington, Nebraska and Texas).

Mr. Blake is a past President for the Southern California Chapter of the Healthcare Financial

Management Association; is a member of the Audit Committee for the Hospital Association

of Southern California and a former Trustee for the California Hospital Association. He has

an MBA from the University of Washington where he also served as a Research Assistant for

the Health Policy Analysis Program, a policy advisory group to the Washington State

Legislature and the Department of Social and Health Services.

Imran Chaudhry, FACHE

Imran Chaudhry is the Regional Director of the Operational Excellence and Project

Management Offices for Providence Health and Services, southern California. He is

responsible for providing the overall leadership for the deployment and execution of the

Lean, Six Sigma, Change Management and Project Management methodologies across the

Providence southern California hospitals.

Mr. Chaudhry holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Engineering from the University of

Southern California and an Executive Business Management degree from UCLA. Prior to

joining Providence in 2004, Imran worked for General Electric for 8 years leading in Services,

Operations and Manufacturing roles across several GE businesses. Imran achieved his

Master Black Belt and Deployment Leadership certification from GE Transportation Systems.

Under Imran’s leadership, Providence Health and Services California won the prestigious

"Platinum Award for Organizational Business Improvement” and the “Best Achievement of

Organizational Business Improvement in Healthcare" by the Global Six Sigma Awards in

2009. Along with many others, Imran is also a recipient of the Tomorrow’s Leader Award by

Catholic Health Association in 2011 and Young Californian Award by the California Chamber

of Commerce in 2010.

Thomas Collins, ED. D.

Dr. Collins is a Professor at the University of Southern California. He teaches mid-career professionals in the Executive Master of Health Care Administration program. In addition, he serves as a consultant to USC Price School of Public Policy in the area of curriculum design and course content selection. He is well known for his mentoring as well as his commitment to assisting in the professional growth and development of his students. Dr. Collins is also the President and Founder of The Strategy Advisors a national and international consulting company specializing in governance, physician integration and leadership development. Working with clients across the country and as far east as China, he brings strong credentials and unique “been there done that” credibility coupled with the talent of a great communicator. Prior to coming to USC he was President/CEO of the MemorialCare Health System with annual revenues of $1.25 billion. During his nineteen years at MemorialCare, he grew the system from two to six hospitals, designed and implemented a branding campaign based on physician and hospital collaboration and positioned the system as a recognized leader in adoption of clinical protocols and best practice medicine. However, when asked, he will tell you that his proudest accomplishment was the establishment of the Memorial Academy, a leadership training program within the organization that prepares the next generation of leaders to pass on the legacy of MemorialCare. He is currently a member of the MemorialCare health system board and Chairman of the MemorialCare Medical Foundation, a 1206 (L) physician organization.

Richard D. Cordova, FACHE Richard D. Cordova joined Children’s Hospital Los Angeles as President and Chief Operating Officer on April 25, 2005, after more than three decades of accomplishment as a health care executive at hospitals and health care systems in California. He became President and Chief Executive Officer, as well as a member of the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Board of Trus-tees, on April 1, 2006. Mr. Cordova is a member of the Board of Trustees of the California Hospital Association (CHA); a board member of ThinkCure, official charity of the Los Angeles Dodgers; board member of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce; and chair of the board of trustees for the Tomas Rivera Policy Institute of the School of Policy, Planning and Development at the University of Southern California. He also served on the boards of the Child Health Corporation of America (CHCA) and the National Association of Children’s Hospitals and Related Institutions (NACHRI), and is Past Chair of the Board of the California Children’s Hospital Association (CCHA). He is a founding member of the National Forum for Latino Healthcare Executives and Past-Chair of the Institute for Diversity in Health Management, a nonprofit organization that works closely with healthcare organizations and educators to expand leadership opportunities for ethnic minorities in health services management. Robert Curry, FACHE

Robert Curry has been the president and chief executive officer of Citrus Valley Health Partners since November 2008. He joined CVHP after serving in the same capacity for five years at O’Connor Hospital in San Jose, Calif. Before coming to O’Connor Hospital, Rob was CEO of Thunderbird Medical Center, a 440-bed Banner Health System hospital in Phoenix, AZ for 13 years. During four of those years, he also served as CEO of Maryvale Samaritan Medical Center, a 340-bed community hospital that was an affiliate within the Banner Health System. Rob has held executive positions with hospital systems in Youngstown, Ohio, and Pittsburgh, PA. Rob is currently a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. He is also a member of the American Hospital Association, Region 9 Advisory Board, and an ex-officio participant of the Board of the California Hospital Association. He is a past board member of the Hospital Association of Southern California and, while in San Jose, served as a board member and Chair of the Northern California Hospital Association. Additionally, while in Phoenix, Rob served on the Board of the Arizona Hospital Association. Throughout his career, Rob has been involved in numerous service organizations and community boards including: the American Heart Association, United Way, YMCA and Rotary International. John Faubion, FACHE John Faubion has been an active healthcare professional in the Los Angeles area for over 30 years, with a background which includes extensive executive management experience as both an operations administrator and senior consultant. During his career, John has served on the senior management team of several large, non-profit and system-affiliated hospitals including Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, California and Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, California. Delvecchio Finley, MPP, FACHE Delvecchio Finley was appointed as CEO of Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, effective October 1, 2011. Mr. Finley has extensive experience in healthcare beginning as a Division Administrator at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where he was responsible for administrative and financial oversight of several medical subspecialties. Previously, he held several executive positions in other public hospitals, including Associate Administrator at San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center, and interim Chief Operating Officer at Laguna Honda Hospital and Rehabilitation Center. Most recently Mr. Finley was Vice President of Operations at California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC). Delvecchio holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Emory University. Michael “Mickey” Goldman, FACHE Mickey Goldman received his bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and his master’s in Hospital and Health Care Administration from St. Louis University. Prior to starting Insight Oncology, Inc., Mickey spent 15 years as Vice President and Executive Director with Salick Health Care, renamed Aptium Oncology. In this role, he was responsible for the design, development and operation of several community-based cancer centers and worked in the consulting division assisting in the development of new cancer centers. Mickey has been a speaker on cancer management and operations for several national organizations and recently published an article, titled “The Value of Breast Centers” in The Breast, an international journal, discussing the economics of managing hospital-based breast centers. Michael Hunn Michael Hunn is currently the Senior Vice-President and Regional Chief Executive of Providence Health and Services Southern California region – part of Providence Health and Services, Renton, Washington. Gerald F. Kominski, Ph.D.

Dr. Kominski is a Professor of Health Policy and Management and Director of the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research. He also currently serves as an Associate Director of the California Medicaid Research Institute (CaMRI), a multi-campus organizational unit that brings together UC researchers to collaborate with the California Department of Health Services on issues related to the Medi-Cal program. Dr. Kominski’s research interests focus on evaluating the costs and cost-effectiveness of health care programs and technologies, with a special emphasis on public insurance programs, including Medicare, Medicaid, and Workers’ Compensation; improving access and health outcomes among ethnic and vulnerable populations; and developing microsimulation models for forecasting eligibility, enrollment, and expenditures under healthcare reform. He currently serves as PI of several multi-year evaluations of Medicaid 1115 waiver demonstration projects in California involving disease management for fee-for-service Medi-Cal beneficiaries and expansion of coverage for low-income uninsured adults otherwise ineligible for Medi-Cal through county-based indigent care programs. From 2003-2009, he served as Vice Chair for the Cost Impact Analysis Team of the California Health Benefits Review Program (CHBRP), which conducts legislative analyses for the California legislature of proposals to expand mandated insurance benefits. From 2001-2008, he was Associate Dean for Academic Programs at the UCLA School of Public Health. Dr. Kominski received his Ph.D. in Public Policy Analysis from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School in 1985, and his A.B. in Chemistry from the University of Chicago in 1978. Prior to joining the faculty at UCLA in 1989, he served for three and a half years as a staff member of the agency now known as the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC). He is co-author of over 120 articles and reports, and is now sole editor of the widely used textbook, Changing the U.S. Health Care System: Key Issues in Health Services Policy and Management, which will be published in its 4th edition in 2013.

Leeba Lessin Leeba Lessin is Senior Vice President of WellPoint and President of WellPoint’s Medicare

Business. Ms. Lessin came to WellPoint through its 2011 acquisition of California-based CareMore. Ms. Lessin was an integral leader in helping CareMore develop its unique care model, which has proven successful in addressing the complex health problems associated with aging. Most recently, Leeba served as CareMore’s president. In her role as Senior Vice President if WellPoint, she continues to oversee CareMore’s operations as well as the operations of WellPoint’s Medicare business, which serves more than 2 million members in 14 states through its subsidiaries. Jim Lott Jim Lott is the Executive Vice President of the Hospital Association of Southern California, where he is responsible for health care policy development, advocacy, and association communications for hospitals serving Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, Riverside, Santa Barbara, and Ventura Counties. He is the state senate appointee to the Citizens Financial Oversight Committee for California’s stem cell program, and he serves on the boards of the Insure the Uninsured Project and the Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science, the latter which he chairs.

Prior to his move to Los Angeles, he served a five-year stint as the president and chief executive officer of the Hospital Council of San Diego and Imperial Counties, a trade association representing the hospitals and health systems in the southern-most region of California. He also held various administrative, policy development and advocacy positions with the Los Angeles County Health Department over a six-year period. George H. Mack, FACHE Mr. Mack is currently Vice President, Payer/Provider Relations, and Vice President, Member Relations, Hospital Association of Southern California (HASC), Los Angeles.

Mack has been with HASC since 1999, having served for 35 years as a senior health care executive. A trained hospital administrator with experiences in leading academic medical centers, multi-hospital systems, community hospitals, multi-specialty medical group environments, and a national hospitalist start-up company. Throughout his career, Mack has also served as a faculty preceptor, mentor and faculty member in several Universities for undergraduate and graduate students pursuing internships, residencies and degrees in healthcare management. Mack currently serves on the Advisory Board of OneLegacy, a leading California regional organ procurement organization.

A graduate of the University of Michigan (BA) and Duke University (MHA), Mack is a current Fellow and former Regent in the American College of Healthcare Executives. His philosophy is to provide cost-effective, clinical driven quality healthcare producing best patient outcomes and optimal financial results. Under his leadership, Desert Valley Hospital and other Prime Healthcare facilities achieved a turnaround with improved efficiencies in vital areas like emergency department, decreasing inpatient lengths of stay and implementation of latest state-of-the art technologies. Jack Schlosser, FACHE Jack Schlosser is a member of the Life Sciences and Healthcare Services practices. With more than 20 years of executive search experience, Jack specializes in chief executive officer, board and other senior-level executive assignments for hospitals, healthcare systems, academic medical centers and non-institutional healthcare services. To date, Jack has conducted more than 300 CEO, board director, COO and other top management searches for clients, including healthcare systems, physician organizations, academic medical centers, professional services firms and non-institutional healthcare providers. Prior to entering the executive search profession, Jack’s career spanned several segments of healthcare, including management positions with Healthwest, an integrated healthcare system, where he held senior roles at the flagship hospital (Northridge Hospital Medical Center), and other entities. Earlier in his career, Jack was a consultant and manager with Coopers & Lybrand's healthcare practice (now PricewaterhouseCoopers). Mr. Schlosser is active in the industry and is a fellow and former Regent of the American College of Healthcare Executives. A noted expert on leadership, governance and career success, Jack has authored articles on career management and corporate governance that have been featured in leading trade publications such as Trustee and Healthcare Executive. He regularly speaks at industry events and in university settings. A graduate of the University of California at Los Angeles, Jack received a Master of Public Health in Health Services Management and was inducted into the Upsilon Phi Delta Honor Society in recognition of his accomplishments for leadership within the industry. He is the first and only individual to receive both the “Leaders of Today...Leaders of Tomorrow” and the Ira Alpert Service Award from the UCLA Health Policy and Management Alumni Association.

Nicholas Tejeda, FACHE Nicholas Tejeda is the Chief Executive Officer at Doctors Hospital of Manteca in Manteca, California. As such, he is responsible for the strategic and operational performance of the 73 bed hospital and its related outpatient services to ensure that the organization delivers high quality, cost effective care and services with a positive margin. Doctors Hospital of Manteca is a member of Tenet Healthcare, an investor-owned hospital system. In his previous role, Nicholas was the Chief Operating Officer of Twin Cities Community Hospital in Templeton, California, a 122-bed hospital and related services. He was intimately involved with the development of The Medical Arts Center at Twin Cities, a multi-specialty practice. Twin Cities Community Hospital is also a member of Tenet Healthcare. Prior to coming to Twin Cities Community Hospital, Nicholas was the Vice President of Hospital and Ambulatory Operations at Saint Mary’s Medical Center, a 380-bed acute care facility in Reno, Nevada. In this role, his primary responsibilities included oversight of inpatient ancillary services, hospital-based ambulatory care services including home care and hospice, as well as a 15-physician multi-specialty medical group. Before coming Saint Mary’s in 2007, Nicholas was an Administrative Fellow with Dignity Health (formerly Catholic Healthcare West), a hospital system based in California. In collaboration with senior leadership, Nicholas assisted and actively coordinated a number of critical strategic initiatives, most notably physician engagement and organizational change management strategic efforts. Prior to CHW, Nicholas worked for KeyCentrix, Inc., a healthcare software company based in Wichita, Kansas. In this capacity, he collaborated with pharmacy owners and pharmacists across 22 states to identify, refine, develop and implement technology that improved their ability to efficiently and effectively deliver care to patients. Mr. Tejeda is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and is the Board Chair for the National Forum of Latino Healthcare Executives. In addition, he is member of the Board of Directors for the Institute for Diversity in Health Management, an affiliate of the American Hospital Association. He sits on the Advisory Board for the Department of Health Policy and Management at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Nicholas also sits on the Club One Medical Wellness Advisory Committee. He was named a Modern Healthcare 2011 "Up & Comer.” Mr. Tejeda earned his master’s degree in Health Services Administration from the University of Kansas and a bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Wichita State University. He and his wife Elena have two sons and reside in Paso Robles, California.

Vince Schmitz

Vince Schmitz, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, joined MultiCare Health System in 2001. In his 35 years of experience in healthcare, Vince has served in a variety of finance leadership positions in California and Washington. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a Master of Business Administration from California State University, Sacramento. Mr. Schmitz is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), with Diplomat status. In early 2007, the Puget Sound Business Journal named him Chief Financial Officer of the year in the category of large, non-profit organizations. Vince also serves on the Tacoma-Pierce County Economic Development Board, the Board of the University of Washington-Tacoma Milgard School of Business and the Premera Hospital Advisory Board.

Mike Vestino, Dr.PHc., FACHE

Mr. Vestino has 24 years experience in the healthcare industry and 21 years as an Executive leader. Vestino started at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, a 453 bed hospital in October of 2002, as the Director of Facilities. With his recent promotion in 2007, Mike was appointed the role of Executive Director of Support Services. His responsibilities include administrative oversight of Supply Chain/Materials Management which encompasses a 60 million dollar supply/spend per year. As well as, Food and Nutrition Services, Plant Operations, Environmental Services, Security Services and Environmental Safety/Emergency Preparedness and Construction. He currently serves as a healthcare consultant, specializing in, “Environment of Care.” Vestino was granted with a scholarship from American Medical International, where he attended a Healthcare Engineering Program at Texas State Technical College in Waco, Texas completing his associate’s degree. Mike also holds a Bachelor of Science in Health Services Management. Vestino graduated from the University of La Verne, with his master’s degree in Healthcare Administration.

Walter Zelman, Ph.D. Dr. Zelman serves as Chair of the Department of Public Health at California State University, Los Angeles, where he teaches courses in health policy and the health care delivery system. Dr. Zelman also serves as Chair of the LA Care Health Plan Board of Governors. He served as Vice-Chair of that organization for five years, and was elected Chair in late 2010. Previous to his appointment at CSULA, in September 2007, Dr. Zelman created an institute, based at the University of Southern California, dedicated to improving communication between research and policy communities. He has also served as President of the California Association of Health Plans (a trade association of California’s managed care insurance plans), a senior White House health advisor during the Clinton Administration, a Special Deputy in the California Department of Insurance, and the Executive Director of California Common Cause. Dr. Zelman has published two books and numerous articles on health care markets and policy, including a study of California’s 2007-08 failure to achieve health reform, a study of five state efforts to expand coverage, and a study of the options for community-based Medicaid health plans to participate in the health exchanges to be formed under the 2010 healthcare reform law. In addition to his current position at California State University, Los Angeles, Dr. Zelman has held academic positions at the University of Southern California, the Harvard School of Public Health, UCLA, Pitzer College, CSU Long Beach and CSU Northridge. His current research focus is the policy and politics of healthcare reform. Dr. Zelman was a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Department of Water and Power, from 1983-1988. He also serves on the Board of Advisors for the Insure the Uninsured project. Dr. Zelman holds a PhD in American Politics and a Masters in International Relations from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a Bachelors Degree in Political Science from the University of Michigan.
