Every year we celebratewomen's day by felicitatingone ofttre renowned &suceessful women Architectand our Alumni. This yearprogram was divided into fwosession. In morning session,Ar. Shweta Rajgarhi4 analumini of 1998 batch, fromDelhi presented her work tostudents and intemcted withthem. This session was Yeryinteractive, and students weFsinspited by ter work. O&eralumni were also gesent forthis session. Evening Programwas skrted by chanting of saraswati Vandana by our l't year student Gauri Damle. Followedby Prize distribution ofvarious competition, Felicitation of Guest and Presentation by Ar.Suraksha Acharya. On this occasion we felicitated well-known Architect from ChennaiAr.Suraksha Acharya. She majorly worked in field of environment friendly sfuctures. Shegave presentation on "Beyond Sustainability: Future Built Environme.rlt" was the broader areaupon which Ar. Suraksha Acharya elaborated on. She discussed her ideas about sustainabilitythrough her projects. She motivated students of architecture to work hard and exploreboundaries. Every year on Intemational Women's Day (8th March) we felicitate our Alumniwho has contributed in the field of Architecture. This year we felicitated Ar.Shweta Rajgarhia
On this occasioq students who have brought laurels ts &e College were awarded for theirvarious achievements. Prizes of competition such as Endowment Prizes, Shrisatya Award forexcellence in final year architectural thesis, Best Sfudent Award, Bharat Yamsanwar award,Ar. Sunil Toye tandscap€ oompetition, Scholarship J.K.Cement & CERA were given tostudents. Prize winners of drawing competition, which is our annual event were alsohonoured on this occasion. We felicitated our Prof. Ar. Shriram Marathe who received theprestigious MASA Gold Medal 2018 for lifetime conkibution to the cause of Architectureeducation. Mrs. Rupali Gotmare Pable Librarian at SMMCA was also felicitated upon beingconferred Doctoral degree. "Milestone" college newsletter and "Her space" a student'smagazine was also released. Dr. Ujwala Chakradeo Principal SMMCA, Dr. Shyamala NairDirector and Secretary Women's Education society were present for the function. Ar. SujataGodbole was the convener for the programme. The programme was well received by thestudents, parents and Member from ttrc architectural fraternity. fth March was celebrated as

WES' Smt' Manoramabai Mundle college of Architecture has being organising ',DrawingCompetition" , for students from nursery to Std 12th. lt was organised on 2 December 201g. Theobjective of this competition was to propagate the college, give an exposure to the school studentsfbr architecture as carrier, to encourage the young mind for addressing the EnvironmentalSensitivity. 'Pre Registration of the competition started 12 days prior the day of the competition. onthe spot registration starts by 8:00 am in the morning & competition starts at 9:00 am . Thecompetition time was till 11:00 am. The atmosphere of the college is full of enthusiasm andenjoyment. Student council also helps for its grand success.The Drawing Competition received a tremendous response with almost 660 students from variousschools and colleges from Nagpur participating in the activity. The event was given good coverage bylocal newspaper media and also on radio 94.3 My Fm.
Participants are provided with drawing materials, refreshments, Participation certificates and radiojockey;s come and make the event so interesting. The Winners from each group will be declaredlater and the prizes will be given on the international women's day celebration.
The topics were selected with an objective for encouraging and enhancing the students cognitive,Affective and Psychomotor domain.

an exhibition of students work since last 8/{0 years. Every year it was organized on the day
of winter drawing competition. This year the exhibition was organized on 2nd December
2018 along with winter drawing competition. The objective of this exhibition was to give the
visitors glimpse of creative and artistic wsrk done by the students of first year and final year
thesis work.
The main attraction of the exhibition was the modeis prepared by the thesis students. AIso
the photography entries of "snap the past", a heritage photography competition organized by
SMMCA in collaboration with NMC were also displayed for the visltors.

The programme was organised by SMMCA in collaboration with International Centre for
Cultural Studies. The presentation was given by Ar. Vishpala Hundekari, Head, Artesian
Connect, Baaya. Presentation aimed to give visibility to such dying crafts of Maharashtra.
Our state, like all states of our beloved country, is rich with many arts and crafts passed on
from generation to generation through centuries. Unfortunately, today these arts are
struggling for survival. The programme was organised on 17th Sept 2016 at Niyogi Hall, LAD
Campus, Nagpur from 4:30 pm to 6:30pm. President of ICCS Dr. Vinayak Deshpande and Dr.
Ujwala Chakradeo marked the presentation. The programme was conducted by Ar.

INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY PROGRAM
"When you work on some project, then, after apoint of time you come to realize that it is a reflection
of your inner exploration and outer manifestation. Concepts or the project which came to me is
because when you love something from inside those &ings will be attracted towards you. These willcome to you in some way like how it has come to me in the forrn of Auroville," said Mona Pingel, a
well-known architect who is practising at Auroville, a universal township in the making near
Puducherry.
Ar. Mona Pingel was speaking on "Inner joumey within and withoufl at a
progftrmme organized by ManoranabaiMundle College of Architecture tocelebrate the International Women's
Day on lOe March20l7 . She was
felicitated for her work in the field ofarchitecture.
Ar. Mona Pingel an eminent Architec{experiments with various buildingtechnologies using local materials and craftsmen, and incorporates principles of Building Biology,major guiding principles in her work are the creation of buildings which are healthy, taking intoaccount factors like Electromagnetic fields, use of natural materials and Earth energies.
She has been actively involved in different planning bodies of Auroville. Currently, she is also part ofthe five-year lndo-US joint research initiative on Building Energy Efficiency- She is the author of amonograph on Ar.Poppo Pingel, which forms a part of the series of monographs on the pioneering
architects of Auroville.
International Women's DayPrograrnme was celcbrated in collaboration with UWAN, AlumniAssociation, COWA and MASA, it started with the felicitation of the Chief guest Ar. Mona Pingel
and Ar. Mallika Seth ( SMMCA Alumni). On this occasion Prof. Rupal Deshpande was felicitated forbeing awarded Ph.D,
Unveiling of 'Vernacular Settlements in Chanderi : Towards innovation and sustenance' a bookpublished jointly by SMMCA,. Nagpur and SPA, Bhopal was done.
Shri Sathya awards was given for excellence in Architecture thesis, prizes were given for logo desigrr
competition, Drawing Competitions for School children , kst student prize and endowment prizes.

Theobjective of this competition was to propagate the college, give an exposure to the school studentsfor architecture as carrier, to encourage the young mind for addressing the societal issues.Participants are provided with drawing materials, refreshments, participation certificates and radiojockey;s come and make the event so interesting. The Winners from each group will be declaredlater and the prizes will be given on the international women's day celebration. pre Registration ofthe competition started 12 days prior the day of the competition. on the spot registration starts by8:00 am in the morning & competition starts at 9:00 am . The competition time was till j.J":00 am.Student council also helps for its grand success.The Drawing Competition received a tremendous response with almost lS0 students from variousschools and colleges from Nagpur participating in the activity. The event was given good coverage bylocal newspaper media.
The topics were selected with an objective for encouraging and enhancing the students cognitive,Affective and Psychomotor domain.

Internationalwomen's day was celebrated at Women's Education Society's Smt. Manoramabai MundleCollege of Architecture in collaboration with University Women's Association of Nagpur (UWAN), AlumniAssociation and Consortium of Women
Architects (COWA).
Ar. Shimul Javeri Kadri, a nationally wellknown award winning architect was
felicitated on the occasion at the hands
of Dr. Panna Akhani, Secretary and
Director, Women's Education Society.
Ar. Shimul made an excellentpresentation on the thought provoking
works earried out by her firm SJK
architects and later answered questions
on a variety of issues related to women
and architecture.
Dr. Ujwala Chakradeo, Principal of the college and Ar. Rizwana Raza. President of the Alumni Associationof the college gave away prizes of the inter-school drawing competition held by the college. Ar. Shimuland Dr. Akhani also gave away the endowment prizes to the students and felicitated achieving studentsand teachers.
Ar. Ketki Tidke informed the audience about the prize instituted in the memory of Ar. Sunil Toye by his
wife and his wellwishers and explained the msdalities sf the eompetition to be hetd for the same.
Prominently present on the occasion were Ar. Uday Gadkari, President Council of Architecture and Ar.Sunil Degwekar, Maharashtra President of the lndian lnstitute of Architects.

Rshini Hattangadi was interviewed by Atula Patwardhan, Ar.Roopal Deshpandeand Ar. Sarnpada Peshwe. Highlighting major influences from her rich life, Ms.
Hattangadi attributed her entry into the profession of theatre largely due to theencouragement of her mother. She also narrated several anecdotes from her lifewhich impacted her personality as a theatre artiste.
ArJasrnine Saluja in her presentation showcased scime of her works including herayard winning proposal for the re-development of Dharavi.
Earlier in the day, Ms. Hattangadi conducted a short theatre workshop for the staffand students ofthe college.

Book release and Lecture by Prof. Adam Hardy
Women's Education Socie$s, Smt. Manoramabai Mundle College of Architecture(SMMCA), Nagpur, had organizing a book-release of its latest publication titled 'Eco-friendly Architecture of Harsil Valley: Anubhuti ll', in presence of the distinguished Prof.Adam Hardy, at Chitnavis Centre, Civil Lines, Nagpur, on 12th Dec,2A14.
The book is an outcome of twodocumentation tours by theteachers and students ofSMMCA to Harsil valley,Uttarakhand, in 2006 and 2013,and dwells on indigenoustechnologies and vernacularknowledge embodied in thearchitecture of the region. Thedocumentation is renderedparticularly important in thewake of the 2013 Uttarakhandtragedy, when all the newerbuildings suffered damage whilethe vernacular settlements
remained intact, thus underlining the importance of vernacular architectural practices forachieving sustainable development. The book is edited by Vedashree Jathar, PriyaChoudhary and Ujwala Chakradeo.
On this occasion, Prof Hardydelivered a lecture on 'TempleArchitecture in lndia'. The talkillustrated the creative process ofevolution of temple forms in lndiaand explore how the practice oftemple design relates to thecanonical Vastu Shastratexts. Adam Hardy, an architect,has been studying lndian templesfor more than thirty years, and has

several important publications to his credit. He is involved in both, conservation anddesign projects of temples in lndia and is a professor of Asian Architecture at TheWelsh School of Architecture, Cardiff University, UK.
Dr. Ujwala Chakradeo extendedhim a floral welcome. Theprofessionals, academicians,students and architectureenthusiasts in the city attended theprogramme in large numbers. Manoramabai Mundle collegeof Architecture, Nagpur in collaboration with MASA (Maharashtra Association of Schools ofArchitecture). The documentation works done during recently held study tours of second andfourth year students; was also exhibited.
The exhibition displayed his wod(s spanning neady five decades- an award winning portfulioof buildingq across the globe; buildings which even as they trqnscend scale are r@ted insustainable practices; buildings which seek to add meaning to the larger context andcommunity, buildings which are rightly called 'the Green Gianb'.
The event experienced a wond.erfu[ response from professional, academicians, students andgeneral public as well. Eminent academicians like Prof. S. A. Deshpande, Chairman llANagpur Center Ar. P.S. Ahuja visited the exhibition.
Students from different institutions in the region like IDEAS, PIADS, Gail<wadPatil lnstitute ofArchitecture, Pandav College of Architecture and VNIT also visited the exhibition and got tolearn his approach and perspective regarding green architecture. General public also visitedthe exhibition. Broad coverage of the event was also given by local T.V. channels andnewspapers. Overallthe exhibition was a grand success and the support of MASA in thisendeavor is appreciated.
