To get the maximumperformance from the unit, please read thismanual first, and keep this at hand.For this unit, the batteries and AC adapterare not supplied. Use LR6 alkaline batteries,optional 9420 BATTERY PACK, or 9418-10AC ADAPTER (PSA-30U-120, PHIHONG).

WARNING

When a power supply from AC adapter terminalon the unit, before turning on the power, makesure that the voltage of the power supply beingused matches the supply voltage indicated onthe part of the AC adapter terminal on the unit.If an attempt is made to use an improper supplyvoltage particularly in excess of 13.2 VDC, thereis danger of damage to this unit and of life-threatening risk to the operator.The optional 9418-10 AC ADAPTER isconstructed so as to be connected to a groundline via a grounded two cable power cord suchas the power cord that is supplied with the unit.In order to avoid electric shock, connect the unitto a properly grounded power supply socketusing the power cord provided. In addition, ifusing a ground adapter, be absolutely sure toconnect the green ground wire which protrudesfrom the adapter to a ground line.

WARNING

This unit is designed for safe operation only atlow voltage. Ensure that no more than 60 V ispresent between any terminal and ground, andthat the potential difference between any twoterminals does not exceed 60 V. The unitcannot be guaranteed in an overrange situation,such as due to an inadvertent electric shock orfaulty insulation, and we cannot acceptresponsibility for any consequences that mightoccur from misuse.The output terminals and the voltage andcurrent input terminals (terminals for thestandard resistor) are all isolated. Beforeconnecting the terminals, ensure that the devicebeing measured will not provide excessiveoutput to, or require excessive input from, theterminals. The unit cannot be guaranteed in anoverrange situation, such as due to aninadvertent electric shock or faulty insulation,and we cannot accept responsibility for anyconsequences that might occur from misuse.

WARNING

If the battery voltage drops while the unit isrunning off of battery power, the 7011 willautomatically switch off the power supply. Notethat if the unit is left in this state for anextended period of time, the optional 9420BATTERY PACK may be discharged too much.If the battery is left in the battery compartmentfor a long time, it may leak. Such leakage maydamage the unit, or cause an electrical hazard,so please remove the battery if the unit is not tobe used for a long period.

CAUTION

・ Do not store or use the unit where it will beexposed to direct sunlight, high temperature, highhumidity, or condensation. If exposed to suchconditions, the unit may be damaged, the insulationmay deteriorate, and the unit may no longer satisfyits specifications.・ To avoid damage to the unit, do not subject the unit

to vibrations or shocks during transport or handling.Be especially careful to avoid dropping the unit.

Chapter 1Product Overview

1.1 Product OverviewThe compact 7011 DC SIGNAL SOURCE usesLR6 alkaline batteries (optional 9420BATTERY PACK or *9418-10 AC ADAPTER),and can output DC voltage and current, andthermocouple power equivalent to presettemperature (K, E, J, T, R, S, B). In addition,it can measure DC voltage, current andtemperature which are electric potentiallyinsulated from generation circuit.This unit is intended primarily for themaintenance of measurementinstrumentation systems and industrialmeters, and for testing electronic circuits andmachinery. It includes standard voltage andcurrent source functions suitable for use inthe research laboratory. The miniaturizeddesign makes it easily portable, and theinternal rechargeable battery power sourceensures long term operation by simplyrecharging the battery in the field.

1.2 Product FeaturesGeneration and measurement of DC voltagefrom -25.000 V to 25.000 V (minimum resolution100μV), and of DC current from -25.000 mA to25.000 mA (minimum resolution 1μA).Generate seven types of thermocouples K, E,J, T, R, S and B (JIS C 1602-1981) to a presettemperature.Temperature measurement from -25℃ to 80℃withoptional accessory 9184 TEMPERATURE PROBE.Bipolar output can be used for load current sink.So loop testing in the instrumentation systemis possible.The 7011 is provided with following monitorfunctions: current when constant voltagegenerates, voltage when constant currentgenerates, reference junction temperaturewhen thermoelectric power generates.Up to 20 memories are available to eachfunction to store displayed settings fordifferent conditions. Memory contents can berecalled and can be generated in autoscan.Common alkaline batteries support use insituations where AC power is not available.The 9420 BATTERY PACK is available as anoption for rapid recharging with the *9418-10(less than 2 hours for full recharge).The optional *9418-10 allows continuous long-term operation.

Power switch [POWER]

Turns the power for the unit on or off. ○ Power switch OFF | Power switch ONCHARGE BATTERY PACK is chargingCharge the optional 9420 BATTERY PACKusing the *9418-10 AC ADAPTER. You can seethe charging state by the charging lamp 17 .

AC adapter terminal

Terminal to insert the optional *9418-10 ACADAPTER. The input voltage range is 12 VDC±10% and a center pin with positivepolarity.

RJ (reference junction compensation) sensorterminal

Terminal to insert the optional 9184TEMPERATURE PROBE.

9 MONITOR/SKIP key

Monitor function

Displays monitor values for each generationfunction as follows:

Constant voltage (CV: 2.5V or 25V):Load current

Constant current (CC: 25mA):Voltage between output terminals

Thermocouple power (TC: 0℃ or RJ):Reference junction temperature

Skip setting

Memories that are set to be skipped duringthe memory write process do not appear inmemory recall (RECALL) or memory autoscan(SCAN) operations.

Memory write

Operate this key and MEMORY/ENTER togetherto enter to the memory write mode. Operateas the same manner again to leave thememory write mode.

MEMORY/ENTER key

Memory generation function

Memory functions are selected in thefollowing sequence: normal, memory recall(RECALL) and memory autoscan (SCAN).

Enter setting

Memories that are set to be entered duringthe memory write process appear in memoryrecall (RECALL) or memory autoscan (SCAN)operations.

Memory write

Operate this key and MONITOR/SKIP togetherto enter to the memory write mode. Operateas the same manner again to leave thememory write mode.

key (Polarity)

Selects the polarity of the output settingvalue.

▲/▼ key (Output value setting)

The digit increases or decreases by one counteach time the key is pressed. Press and holdthe key to change the digit continuously.

OUTPUT ON/OFF key

・Switches the output on or off with thegeneration function.

・This key can be used as the start/stop formemory generation function.

Output terminal [OUTPUT]

When output is on, the value specified will beoutput. This terminal is shorted with about40 kΩ resistance when output is off. The7011 has built-in output protection fuse.

Voltage input terminal [INPUT/V]

Inputs voltage for voltage measurement.Input voltage is about 1 MΩ.

Current input terminal [INPUT/mA]

Terminal for the standard resistor [Rs/100Ω]

Current input

Inputs current for current measurementfunction. The 7011 has built-in inputprotection fuse. The input resistance ofcurrent detection and input protection fuse isabout 25 Ω.

Standard resistor

When current measurement function is off, a100 Ω standard resistor is connected for the

0℃ check of the 100 Ω JIS C1603-1981standard resistance thermometer.

WARNING

To avoid electric shock when replacing thebatteries, be quite sure first to turn the mainswitch off, and then disconnect the input andoutput terminals, optional *9418-10 AC ADAPTER,9184 RJ SENSOR and so on from the powersupply and from the object to be measured.Also, after replacing the batteries, alwaysreplace the cover before using the unit.When replacing the batteries, do not install usedbatteries with new ones, and do not mixdifferent types of batteries. The batterycompartment is protected against reversedinstalling. Do not insert forcibly batteries.

WARNING

Do not short-circuit used batteries, disassemblethem, or throw them in a fire. Doing so maycause the batteries to explode.Dispose of used batteries according to theirtype in the prescribed manner and in the properlocation. Take the optional 9420 BATTERY PACKto a Ni-Cd battery recycling center or dispose ofthem to their type in the prescribed manner andin the proper location. If there are localregulations concerning the disposal of Ni-Cdbatteries, dispose of the batteries in accordancewith those regulations.For the optional *9418-10 AC ADAPTER: Inputpower supply voltage is 100 to 240 V AC ,frequency specification is 50/60 Hz.Before turning on the power, make sure that thevoltage of the power supply being used matchesthe supply voltage indicated on the part of theAC adapter terminal on the unit. If an attempt ismade to use an improper supply voltage,particularly in excess of 13.2 V DC, there isdanger of damage to this unit and of life-threatening risk to the operator.

When using the optional *9418-10 AC ADAPTER,after turning off the power for the unit, connectthe AC ADAPTER to the unit and the ACADAPTER to the commercial power supply.The optional *9418-10 AC ADAPTER isconstructed so as to be connected to a groundline via a grounded two cable power cord suchas the power cord that is supplied with the unit.In order to avoid electric shock, connect the unitto a properly grounded power supply socketusing the power cord provided. 2.1.1 Installation of LR6 Alkaline Batteriesor Optional 9420 BATTERY PACK

1. Turn the power switch off (○).

2. Open the battery cover and install thebatteries with the correct polarity.

・When using LR6 alkaline batteries, install sixof them in the battery compartment.

・When using the optional 9420 BATTERYPACK, install three of them in the batterycompartment with the correct polarity.(Use the batteries after seeing 2.1.3,"Charging the Optional 9420 BATTERYPACK" and recharging them.)

3. Be sure to close the battery cover.

2.1.2 Connecting the Optional 9418-10 ACADAPTER

1. Turn the power switch off (○).

2. Connect the AC adapter output plug to theAC adapter terminal for the unit.

3. After making sure that the voltage of thepower supply being used matches the supplyvoltage of the AC ADAPTER, put the plug inthe outlet.

1. Prepare the 9420 BATTERY PACK and*9418-10 AC ADAPTER in order of theprocedure of Sections 2.1.1 and 2.1.2.

2. Set the power switch to CHARGE position forthe unit.

3. The charging lamp will turn red to start thecharging.

4. When the charging lamp turns green,charging is completed.

5. Turn off (○) the power switch.

WARNING

Do not recharge the battery which cannot berecharged.Recharge only the optional 9420 BATTERY PACK.Always carry out battery charging at an ambienttemperature between 10℃ and 40℃. Outsidethis range, not only is the charging capacityreduces, but also there is a possibility ofreduced performance or electrolyte leakage.

CAUTION

・ Do not use alkaline batteries together with Ni-Cdbatteries.・ When using the 9420 BATTERY PACK, always use

together 3 pairs battery.・ Always use the 7011 when recharging the 9420

CAUTION

When output is OFF, the +/ー terminal is shortedwith a resistance of 40 kΩ in the output terminal.

NOTE

1. Set to constant current (CC: 25mA)generation function with OUTPUT FUNC.

2. Set output setting value with the ▲/▼ keysand set the polarity of the 7011 side with the

key.

When charging battery: set to plus.When discharging battery: set to minus.

5.3 Signal Loop Testing of IndustrialMachinery

Two types of measurements are typicallymade with industrial machinery: currentmeasurement with a 4- to 20-mA currentoutput, and voltage measurement with asignal 1- to 5-V or 1- to 10-V loop.

ExampleMeasure temperature with the thermocouple[K], converting transducer output to 4- to 20-mA. Observe output on the controller andrecord changes. Transducer power is includedin the signal loop.

A typical device configuration for thisexample is described below.

1. Transducer Input

Substitute thermocouple output to thetransducer with the signal source. Set thesource mode to the thermocouple source (TC:RJ) function, and thermocouple [K]. Refer toSection 3.2, "Thermoelectric Power (TC: 0℃/RJ) Generation" for connections to thetransducer including the TEMPERATUREPROBE.

2. Transducer Output

The power source and the ammeter at thetransducer output are replaced by the 7011constant voltage (CV: 25 V) and current (A:25 mA) functions. The 7011 output terminalsconnect to the power source terminals, andthe current measurement terminals replacethe ammeter, so connections to the outputside of the transducer can be handled by asingle unit.

3. The output of the unit at the transducer inputsets the transducer input conditions, and theother unit at the transducer output measuresthe 4- to 20-mA output.

6.1 Maintenance and ServicingIn order to use the 7011 safely, the followingmaintenance and checking procedures shouldbe executed at the proper intervals.

・Be sure to read assiduously the various itemshighlighted in this manual for attention, inorder to use the unit correctly.

・If the unit is not functioning properly, firstconfirm the Section 6.6, "TroubleshootingChecklist". If operation still appearsabnormal, stop using the unit, and dispatch itfor service at an approved HIOKI servicefacility.

・Getting the 7011 unit wet or letting oil ordust enter inside its casing will certainlydamage it, and is quite likely to cause anelectric shock accident or a dangerousconflagration. If the unit has gotten seriouslywet, oily, or dusty, stop using it and send itfor service at an approved HIOKI calibrationfacility.

6.2 Changing the Battery

・Periodic calibration is necessary in order tomaintain and authenticate the accuracy ofthis testing device. When such calibration isnecessary, you should utilize the services ofan approved HIOKI calibration facility.

Cleaning the unit

・Gently wipe dirt from the surface of the unitwith a soft cloth moistened with a smallamount of water or neutral cleanser. Do notunder any circumstances use benzine, alcohol,acetone, ether, paint thinner, lacquer, orketone solvents on the unit, as these maycause deformation or discoloration.

・Periodically wipe the face of the LCD displayscreen gently with a clean soft dry cloth.

・If this unit is being powered by battery andthe battery voltage drops, the indicatorappears on the LCD display. If this happens,turn the output off and then turn the powerswitch off as soon as possible. After insertinga new battery, you may resume using theunit.

・For the battery changing method, refer toSection 2.1, "Preparing for the Power andReplacing the Batteries".

・ If, once the indicator appears, the power is kepton and the unit continues to be used, internalcontrol of the unit may be lost, resulting in abnormaloutput that could damage the unit or the device tobe measured. Once the indicator appears, turnthe power off as soon as possible.・ The optional 9420 BATTERY PACK is Ni-Cd battery.

If it is continued to use while the indication islighting, the BATTERY PACK will beoverdischarged and shortening the life of thebattery.・ Use the LR6 alkaline batteries or the 9420

BATTERY PACK.・ Do not use alkaline batteries together with Ni-Cd

batteries.・ When using the 9420 BATTERY PACK, always use

together 3 pairs battery.・ When replacing the batteries, always replace with

all new ones.・ Always use the 7011 when recharging the 9420

BATTERY PACK.・ Do not peel wrapping of the BATTERY PACK.・ Do not use new batteries together with used ones,

because problems may occur if batteries fromdifferent sets are mixed together.

CAUTION

・ The battery capacity is reduced as a result of self-discharge. Always carry out battery charging beforeinitial use.・ If the battery capacity remains very low after correct

recharging, the useful battery life is at an end. Please purchase new BATTERY PACK.

6.3 Replacing the Circuit ProtectionFuse

The fuses are fitted on the PCB where thelower case is removed.

・The 7011 has three fuses: two of them are forgeneration function, one for measurementfunction.

・The fuse for the constant voltage (CV: 2.5V/25 V) and constant current (CC: 25 mA)generation functions is labeled "F301" on thecircuit board.

・The fuse for the thermocouple power (TC: 0℃/RJ) generation functions is labeled "F302" onthe circuit board.

・The fuse for the current (A: 25 mA)measurement function is labeled "F303" onthe circuit board.

WARNING

When changing the circuit protection fuses, inorder to avoid the risk of electric shockaccident, be quite sure first to turn the mainswitch of the 7011 unit off, and then to removethe AC ADAPTER and batteries.Only use fuses of the specified type that is ratedfor the specified current and voltage. 1. Turn off the power switch (○).

2. Remove the AC ADAPTER, if the ACADAPTER or something is connected to theAC adapter terminal.

3. Remove the battery cover and then removeall batteries or BATTERY PACK.

4. Remove the two screws from the lowercase, and then remove the lower case.

5. Remove the connector from the PCB.

6. Change the blowing fuses. Confirm thefollowing functions:

F301 CV: 2.5 V/25 V, CC: 25 mAConstant voltage 2.5 or 25 V generationfunctions and Constant current 25 mAgeneration function

F302 TC: 0℃/RJThermocouple junction 0℃ reference generationfunction and thermocouple reference junctioncompensation generation function

F303 A: 25 mACurrent 25 mA measurement function

7. Mount the connector in the PCB.

8. Hook the back of the case into the tracks inthe front of the case. Make sure that theswitches fit through the holes in thebattery compartment.

9. Retighten the two screws .
