1. GIVE YOURSELF A MAKEOVER
• Get your hair done, nails done or get a new wardrobe. If finances are a problem on this one, you can go to a hair or nail school and get them done on the cheap. You can also have a good shopping trip at your local good will stores.

2. KNOW WHAT YOU LIKE ABOUT YOURSELF
• Write down at least 5 things that you like about yourself. Don’t limit yourself there. Try for twenty things. You’ll find out a lot and this will cut down your criticizing and negative self-talk.

3. SPEND MORE TIME WITH PEOPLE THAT WILL UPLIFT YOU INSTEAD OF BRING YOU DOWN
• This one can be hard especially if your living situation is not a good one. But focus more on the people that are positive influences in your life and you‘ll see your mind changing along with it.

4. KNOW WHAT’S CAUSING YOUR SELF-ESTEEM PROBLEMS
• That means writing down what could be bringing your down. For example if you’re at work and you’re having a problem with something, identify what it is and talk to your superior about it so it can be straightened out. Another example is if you’re a student and you are not getting good grades, and then stay after class for extra help, join study groups or get a tutor. You can check on craigslist for tutors in what you need help in.

5. USE POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS
• Tell yourself that ‘I am a good person’ or ‘I am a successful person’. It may not ‘feel’ like a whole lot at first but once you start repeating these affirmations it will make a big difference. Go over your ‘what I like about myself’ list and change the items to ‘I am’.

6. FIND SOMETHING TO LAUGH ABOUT
• Watch a comedy movie and better yet go outside to a comedy show! That will decrease the isolation from people that can be a negative symptom of self-esteem. Go online and search for funny jokes. There are a lot of newsletters you could possibly join that can deliver fun and laughter on a daily basis.

7. DO A TREAT FOR YOURSELF
• Take yourself out to dinner or a movie. Go on walk in the park or buy that outfit you’ve wanted to buy for a while now. As long as you don’t have a strong attachment for buying material possessions to make yourself feel better, this treat will be okay to do.
