Summarizing• People wear jeans all the time. These pants are tough and long-

lasting. They are casual. Many people find them comfortable. They seem like they've been around forever. Actually, Levi Strauss came up with the idea during the California Gold Rush. He had traveled west to make a fortune, but not by searching for gold. Instead he brought tent cloth with him and he planned to sell tents to the workers in the gold mines. He changed his mind, though, when he saw the workers needed good strong work pants. So he made some for them by using the tent cloth and bolting it together with tiny pieces of metal. He sold the jeans for one dollar a pair and the workers nicknamed the pants Levi.
