What is ZimbraWhat is Zimbra

• Zimbra is an e-mail infrastructure system– Purchased by Yahoo in 2007

• It provides services comparable to Microsoft’s Exchange– E-Mail– Calendars– Tasks– Contact Lists

• Used either via a web interface or with Outlook– Outlook use requires a connector

What can Zimbra do for Stratfor? What can Zimbra do for Stratfor?

• Single e-mail infrastructure will ease administrative duties

• Shared calendaring– Send meeting invites to anyone on the system– Conference rooms will be “resources” and will not

require special administration– Monthly cost for Webex calendaring can be eliminated

• Blackberry Enterprise Server support– Current version of Zimbra supports BES

• This means bi-directional sync of e-mail, calendar, contacts and tasks between the Blackberry and Zimbra

• True “push” e-mail solution that does not require rules to configure– Blackberrys can continue to function as is if desired

• Mailing lists will not be effected

ChallengesChallenges

• Outlook, PGP, and Zimbra– PGP with Outlook was not working on the

previous version of Zimbra– This has been tested and is working on the

current version• Keeping mail off of the server

– Some users ask that we not leave mail on the server

– Workaround has been tested• Use a rule to move mail as it is received to a local folder• Need to verify that this meets people’s needs, in particular

with Blackberries

Where are we in the process?Where are we in the process?

• All but x e-mail users are using Zimbra• Remaining users are primarily the execs• The conversion process

– Each conversion requires approximately 1 hour of time on the user’s desktop/notebook

– We will configure Outlook to use the new mailbox on Zimbra

– Any mail in your old mailbox will be migrated• Propose we move forward as quickly as possible

to complete the migration.– We will let people know how to use some of the high-

value features right away– We will need to purchase Blackberry Enterprise Server

to leverage the sync between Zimbra and Blackberry
