Sitting at the confluence of Mekong and the Khan rivers, Luang Prabang is

the most beautiful city in the country. According to UNESCO, the city has

the best preserved fusion of traditional and colonial architecture in Asia.

After check in procedures complete, we ascend Mt Phousy for a

panoramic view of the city and the surrounding landscape. You may also

wish to stop by and visit the excellent Arts and Ethnology Centre for an

insight into the ethnic mix and culture of Laos.

DAY 02

01 OCT (MON)

LUANG PRABANG

We have another day to visit Luang Prabang. Begin with a visit to Wat

Visoun, known as the “water melon stupa” due to its shape followed by the

Royal Palace Museum (closed on Tuesday) before we drive through scenic

Laotian countryside dotted with rice paddies and ethnic minority villages to

Kuangsi Waterfall.

On arrival at Kuangsi Waterfall, view the multi-tiered waterfalls that tumble

into the turquoise pool and go for a swim if you like before journeying back

to Luang Prabang.

DAY 03

02 OCT (TUE)

LUANG PRABANG

After breakfast, we begin our walking tour, taking in the city’s beautiful

architecture and hidden secrets, walking down the quiet back lanes

leading to Wat Xieng Thong, the city’s most magnificent temple by the

Mekong.

From here, we catch a traditional long-tailed boat up the Mekong River to

explore the famous Pak Ou Cave, staffed with Buddha images of all styles

and sizes left behind by pilgrims. Return to Luang Prabang by car via Ban

Nongxai, an artisan village and also to visit a silversmith workshop.

DAY 04

03 OCT (WED)

LUANG PRABANG / SIEM REAP

At dawn, you may want to join in the local ritual of offering alms to the

monks on their morning walk. Drop by the local morning market before

returning to the hotel for breakfast.

Transfer to the airport for your flight to Siem Reap.

Tonight, enjoy the traditional Apsara Dance Performance & Dinner at Raffles

DAY 05

04 OCT (THU)

SIEM REAP

Travel by road to Srah Srang and then to Ta Prohm, the temple made

famous by Angelina Jolie of Tomb Raider before walking through the forest

to the lightly visited temples of Ta Nei. Take a much needed break with a

beautiful temple breakfast before ending the morning at Ta Keo temple,

known as the “mountain with bronze peaks”.

In the afternoon, continue by road to the Victory Gate of Angkor Thom and

walk the uncommon trail to the Death Gate and explore other interesting

temples like Terrace of the Leper King, Preah Palilay and the imposing

Baphuon to finally reach Jayavarman’s state temple of Bayon.

Have your first taste of the Angkorian temples and explore the sprawling

labyrinth of Banteay Kdei with its Hall of Dancing Girls. Drive through the

forest and enjoy a boat ride in a traditional gondola at a peaceful area in

the Angkor’s moat, the perfect stage to enjoy a late afternoon drink and

catch sunset over the water.

DAY 06

05 OCT (FRI)

SIEM REAP

A sunrise tour starts at pre-dawn to witness the breath-taking view of Angkor

Wat temple, one of travel remaining great adventures before returning to

your hotel for a late breakfast.

Moving away from the temples, we travel out of the city to the floating

villages of Kompong Khleang (depend on water levels) and have the

opportunity to observe and interact with the locals. Enjoy a picnic-lunch on

the lake, while absorbing the atmosphere of the locality. Before returning to

the city, have a water blessing ceremony, believed to bring you good

fortune for the journey ahead.

DAY 07

06 OCT (SAT)

SIEM REAP / SHANGHAI

Explore the old Central Markets for souvenir shopping. Roam narrow lanes

lined with stalls selling a bewildering array of wonderfully exotic edibles, from

waterfowl to snakes, spiders and dried bugs. Then visit Theam’s house, a

quirky mix of art studio, atelier and gallery overflowing with artisanal

products, lacquered panels and works-in-progress by the artist Theam and

his artisan apprentices, who is helping to revive the Cambodian craft

sector.

This afternoon, venture out past Angkor Wat and the temple area and

explore the real countryside by vespa. A fun way to take in the sights sounds

and smells of the countryside, and ride through the villages, rice paddies,

wetland area.

After refresh, transfer to the airport for your flight back to Shanghai in the

evening.
